Summary: Against all I once believed, this diet works for me
Review: I argued vehemently againt my Mum about what constituted a 'healthy' diet because whereas she followed Dr Atkins, I was a low-fat, Fit-for-Life fan. I was always hungry, having to consume HUGE breakfasts of fruit to sustain me, and I never lost weight. My mother and stepfather, on the other hand, lost weight (40 - 60lbs) and have kept it off for 2 years, depite the ice-cream after dinner and large 'fatty' meals. I resolved a month ago to try Dr Atkin's formula, even though what he recommends is anathema to me. Well, um, the diet works, and his scientific method inspires me with confidence. This is no 'dietician'. The guy is a Cardiologist who knows what he is talking about. As for the sceptics, I notice how their criticism is all gut-feeling and "I don't agree" etc. How many of them have tried the diet? Even my own doctor, a witness that my weight, cholesterol and blood-sugar is down, refuses to read the book because it advocates everything he was taught to disavow at college. I feel great, though I really hate the egg-and-bacon breakfasts.

Summary: Finally a diet that works!
Review: I wish I could find the exact book that was featured on the TV show,The View.That one was new and revised. Anyway,this diet is amazing and if you read the book carefully,stay away from too many veggies,use the ketone sticks and exercise it will work. You will lose the urge to eat alot too. Even though my metabolism was all but shot,I'm still losing weight,but I can't do too many carbs yet.

Summary: SNAP OUT OF YOUR SELF-HATRED PEOPLE!!!
Review: Listen up, everyone. Here's the low down on this deceptively "revolutionary" book. I've read it, the Sugarbusters book, the Protein Power book, AND the horrible 5 Day Miracle Diet book - and guess what? THEY DO WORK!!! But a month later your life is so imprisoned in a cocoon of restrictive and unnatural dietary habits that quite frankly I'll take a few extra pounds over a reduced quality of life any damn day! God made all this wonderful variety of food for us to enjoy here on Earth! Why do we deprive ourselves of it? How about a book called "The Eat EVERYTHING In Moderation Diet Revolution"? I'd buy that! And most importantly LIVE by it! Eggs and steak for life with no fruits ever? Come on!!!!!! This has GOT to be dangerous over the long term. There are other, BETTER ways to trim up and be happy!

Summary: This diet may possibly save my life & help me get healthier!
Review: I am an A-1 skeptic. I have been following this diet to the best of my abilities. I have lost about 7-8# in the last 10 days. My new eating habits are very contrary to what I am accustomed to eating. My only worry is how this will affect my cholesteral. I first began by listening to the taped version, over and over again. I have not finished reading the book, but so far, I like what I am reading. Two wonderful things that I have noticed are: 1) After eating I do not feel bloated. I have been able to resist my comfort foods. I do have more energy. My clothes are fitting looser (I also walk an average of 3 miles per day), and 2) I am a non-insulin diabetic. Prior to following this diet, my average readings were 130-140. My readings now average 80-100. And the great news is that after eating a satisfying meal, my readings average 111-123....not 170+ as with my high-carbohydrate diet. I am determined to stick to this. My doctor's appointment is not until June. I am hopeful things will be looking better than they did one year ago.

Summary: Still on it, nothing bad to say!!!!
Review: I wrote a review 01.04.99 and at that time I had been on the diet for 3 weeks and had lost 12 lbs. Well by now, I've lost almost 20 lbs (would be more if I hadn't cheated at the cinema by having nachos) I recently saw a consultant about my under active thyroid problem and I told him about the diet. The first words out of his mouth were :" That diet is a load of crap". He went on telling me how the only way to lose weight is to cut down on calories and fat and of course, being the Atkins believer that I am I started to argue back. It didn't get me anywhere, he obviously hasn't spent any time researching the subject and therefore wasn't going to change his mind. This diet is still very rare in the UK, and I've had quite a job telling people about it as they do not believe me -as far as they are concerned, they only way to lose weight is a low-fat, high-carbo diet and I CAN NOT WAIT TO PROVE THEM WRONG!!!! When I have reached my target weight (Got another 120 lbs to go) I am going to go to the local press and ask them to write a story about my success thus showing others, that what we have been teached so far about weight loss isn't necessarily true. I get criticism every single day from people who do not believe in a diet of this type (mainly because they have never heard of it before) saying that I will end up with heart and cholesterol problems etc. and even when I explain that the case is actually visa versa, they still do not believe. Oh well, It's their loss, not mine.

Summary: It has become my lifestyle diet!
Review: For 15 years I ate fat-free this and fat-free that and ate and ate and I was ALWAYS hungry. It was extremely difficult to try Atkins with the fat-free mentality I had all those years but I finally gave in. I did not have a lot of weight to lose - I just could not take off the 12 lbs I had put on eating fat-free. I could not believe how great I felt - never hungry, losing about 2 lbs a week and still enjoying a glass of wine after the first two weeks. It has been my lifestyle diet for almost 5 years - I feel wonderful and full of energy. I am 53 years old, walk four miles almost every day and do weight training three times a week. I almost never eat fruit, pasta, potatoes, rice, beans or any high carb vegies like corn, peas and carrots (and I love these vegies!). It's meat, cheese, eggs, green vegies and a big salad every night that keeps me going. This diet also freed me from all the gastointestinal distress I suffered from carbos. Whenever I try those high carbo foods I explode with gas. I'll take steak and salad over that any day! Oh, and I have a physical every year and my collesterol is 196 with HDL at 69. My doctor has no complaint with that!

Summary: It really works!!!!
Review: I went to the Doctor on April 1st, and started the diet April 4th, I again had to go to the Doctor's office today and my blood pressure went down from 120/90 to 120/76 and I lost 8lbs. I feel great and this is really fun and easy. Thank you Dr. Atkins!!!!!!!!!

Summary: Not healthy
Review: I do not agree with this plan of reducing the carbs in a persons daily intake of food. This is a very unhealthy way to lose weight. I would like to know how many will gain all the weight plus back after they go back to regular eating. Low carbs does not give you enough energy to make it on a daily basis. I put myself on a 50 gram carb, 1000 cal. plan aday and i was not getting enough carbs to make it through a 1 1/2 hr work out each day. I increased my carbs to 65 grams aday and i lost 71 pounds, but i had to work hard for that loss. Also, there are alot of vegetables that have high carbs such as peas, cucumbers....look it up in a carbohydrate counter book. If you are planning to follow this plan, just be careful. It may cause you more damage inside then you think.

Summary: Yes, by god-it DOES work. Just do it!
Review: As a hypoglycemic teenager (many, many years ago), I tried the diet in its early years, and it helped my low blood sugar and made my life normal. Now, as a portly adult-the diet is helping me again. I started the diet Feb. 1, 1999 at size 14, and today I'm wearing size 10 jeans. I adore this diet! I can have heavy cream in my coffee, cheese as a snack, I eat the Atkins "Advantage" bars-(expensive, but the BEST if you have a chocolate fit, and the Atkins shakes are a god send, too!)-and frankly, I rarely think about food. Granted, the diet limits your choices, but for former foodies like me, the less you think about food, the better off you are. I have energy, my knee joints have stopped hurting, I feel good when I wake up, I'm not puffy, my skin looks great, and my grocery bills are a lot lower. Granted, I don't like eggs, but I throw in some jalapeno cheese and they go down with no problem. Buy this book! As a former Pritikin dieter-this diet WILL work!(And to the woman who said she has the book and doesn't know how to start the diet-uh-READ THE BOOK!)
