Summary: question
Review: i did try it myself last year (august) and it did work. however, after the holidays such as thanksgiving, x'mas, new year, and all these happy holidays, unfortunately..... i think it is so hard to go back to the 2nd time because of these social evnts. many foods are hard to elimiate especially dine out. i would give this diet a 5 stars after trying so many diets, this was the most effective one. however, due to the frustration on choosing foods which is kinda unclear, i have to give it a 3 stars. but overall, i do believe it is very effective. is possible to have a list of foods is not allowed under this diet. been an asian, there are a lot of foods that i don't know if it is okay to consume or not. so, if possible, please advise. such as sushi (raw fish), seaweeds, and etc..... thanks a lot.

Summary: For me, there is no other way to eat than the ATKINS way.
Review: I have been on the Atkins program for the last 2+ years and it has changed my life! I lost 25 pounds. The miracle is, it has stayed off. His book was so enlighting to the malady of carbohydrates. Since being on this program I have learned what my body can and cannot handle. I still may have a carbohydrate binge day but, as Atkins says, I start over the next day. It works it really does. When I am eating according to program I feel so much better, sleep better and have more energy. I just found the web sight for Atkins products, what a treat this is going to be. Thank you Dr. Atkins! I love you and my new life.

Summary: IT WORKS
Review: I went on this diet over 20 years ago and lost about 16lbs in a month. I did it again last summer and went from 195 to 160 in 3 months. Prior to the diet I had bad heartburn every night and had to take Zantac. My cholesterol was 206 and tryglicerides 268. My doctor said it would kill me. My heartburn was gone after 5 days. My cholesterol went to 162! and Tryglicerides 106! My doctor then said "I guess we don't fully understand some things".

I stopped losing after 35 lbs even though I wanted to drop another 17lbs. That seems to be the pattern of many. I do think after the easy lbs go CALORIES DO MATTER despite what Atkins says.

Off the diet I have gained 7 lbs so I went back on 4 days ago and have dropped 5 of them. I would encourage others to give this a try. Even though it does get a little boring after a while. Critics say it works because you eat less calories that may be true but unlike other diets you don't get the cravings so it is easier to stick to.

Review: Does anyone know if drinking two glasses of wine a day during the induction phase will totally hinder the process? There are only 2.5 grams of carb. in a glass of white wine...

Summary: Excellent knowledge to impart
Review: I was never aware of this low carb/high protein concept until I read this book. Howevr I'm a liitle afraid on getting on this diet due to 2 concerns of my mine. First I'm trying to get pregnant. What if I lose all the 40 lbs I'm trying to lose. Then I do get pregnant. And we are not allowed to restrict or go on a diet during pregnancy. I'm concerned of gaining all or maybe more lbs of all that I lose. The other worry is I do not eat meat on certain days of the week. The diet suggests mainly meat and eggs. What can I eat on those days, especially vegetarian and at same time fill full. i'm little concerned about giving up all my favorite foods like rice, potatoes, fruits, etc.. Does that mean we need to sacrifice this for life and NEVER eat these foods again. Can someone please write to me and motivate me.

Summary: This is the ONLY way to eat for life.
Review: My husband and I started this diet on October 13,1998. To date I have went from 385 pounds to 205 pounds and my husband has went from 260 down to 150. We will be life long believers is this way of eating. We are now exercising for the first time ever and are in better physical shape and in all around better health than ever. Thank you Dr.Atkins for this inspiring,interesting and wonderful book. And thank you for helping me to like myself for the first time ever.

Summary: This diet is not supported by Mayo Clinic.
Review: After carefully checking the Mayo Clinic website, I found that they do not support or recommend this diet. Therefore, I now find it hard to put any validity in the book at all. I wonder how many other inaccurate statements might be contained that would effect my health. Prehaps you will want examine the website and then change yours.

Summary: UPDATE
Review: THE FOLLOWING IS A COUPLE OF POINTS FROM PREVIOUS REVIEWS IN ADDITION TO MY CURRENT PROGRESS.

April 20, 1999: I have just finished 21 days. In addition to the diet, I walk 2 miles every other day. I have lost 20 pounds. My energy, endurance and appetite have all changed for the better.

May 10, 1999: I have continued the same routine and eating patterns that I have started. I started the diet at 285 pounds. I now weigh 253 pounds. That is 32 pounds to you and me. I will be at week seven on May 11th. Energy has never been a issue.

June 8, 1999: Week 11, pounds lost, 45. I have "sinned" 4 times. Two bowls of cereal after I reached my max carbs. Ate high carb meals twice. The effect of my indulgance, none. My progress has slowed down but never has it gone backwards. Sickning as it may sound, when I eat now, I acutually feel more stuffed than when I was stuffing myself. The last time I ate like I use to, I did not enjoy eating the foods that I gave up. I work in an air traffic control tower. I have "turned on" 4 fellow workers and one spouce of my co-worker. All this because they can see my results first hand. See you in another 15 pounds. For those of you who have written me in the past, how's your progress?

Here is one last point for those of you who feel you could never do this. Eleven weeks ago I started this diet and have now lost 45 pounds. I could have done nothing and eleven weeks would have still passed. I would probably be even heavier. In eleven weeks I hope to lose at least another 30 pounds. Time will go by whether I make good of it or not. Where will you be when I weigh 75 pounds less than I did when I started?

Summary: Before you start this diet, you need to read the book.
Review: Too many people just want to know the basics of the diet itself, however, in order to get the most out of it, you need to read the book. It does work, but you must stick to it, which sometimes can be hard. You will miss bread and milk, and fruits as well. You will find that the older you get, the less you can add and still lose. My husband did stick to it and lost 50 pounds. He is not a diet person, so if he can do it, so can you!

Summary: I lost 10 lbs in a week!
Review: I can't comment on the scientific explanation as to why, I just took his word for it. His explanations made sense to me and I tried it. I am going into the second week and have already lost 10 lbs! ... and I cheated a few times too! (soda is my downfall). I did experience an, unusual for me, very bad headache a couple days into the diet that lasted a full day. By the fourth day my energy was markedly increased and I could already start to see a physical difference in my body as I was only 10 lbs overweight to begin with. I do still crave breads, pasta and potatoes, etc, but will probably eat them in moderation after I go down a few more pounds and can afford to gain a few pounds. I just can't believe how quick the weight came off eating SO MUCH (more than I normally eat) food, and how good I feel. I highly recommend this book as a fast way to lose weight. Be sure to take a multi-vitamin while on this diet though.
