Summary: A little long winded, but full of great info.
Review: As a low-fat diet and WW veteran, I can now admit that those diets do not work for me. I am definitely a carb-addict as well as a sugar addict. When those 2 things are in my diet, I will 99% of the time overeat. When I overeat, I gain weight.

At 60 pounds overweight I needed to try a new angle. I read the Carbohydrate's Addict Diet book and found it fascinating, so I decided to order this book and found the info even more fascinating.

I started this diet August 16th, and after just 10 days, I have lost 9 pounds and I feel wonderful. I now have new energy to walk 2 miles every night with my family.

My mood swings have lifted and I'm a much happier person overall.

I personally think the foods allowed are fabulous. It doesn't have to be a high-fat diet like those of you don't agree with this diet claim. Choose lower fat cheeses and lean cuts of meat if it's a problem. I have never felt more satified and I don't crave junkfood any longer.

All-in-all, this diet isn't for everyone...we all agree on that. It works better for those who have a bit more to lose, like myself.

Try it for 14-days like Atkin's suggests and see for yourself. What have you got to lose? A few pounds? What have you got to gain? Energy? A feeling of satisfaction and control? Yes.

Summary: Awesome diet that really works!
Review: After purchasing the book and starting the diet in April of 1999, I am in the Maintenance phase and after reaching my goal (in just 2 months -- 30 pounds) I am able to keep it off.

It is so easy to follow this diet, but you must be committed. Read the book from cover to cover before starting the program and follow Dr. Atkin's recommendations completely! When you cheat, you will know it -- especially in the induction phase.

Another recommendation... go through the program with a friend or spouse. You will need the support and it's easier to prepare the meals that way.

Summary: So far, so good!
Review: I only wanted to lose my last 10 pounds. I was approaching 128, and want to be 118. I know that doesn't sound like much difference, but it certainly is for me. And I have NEVER been able to purposely shed a pound in my life. I have been on the Adkins diet for 3 weeks, and have lost 6 pounds! I could never find testimonials for people like me who weren't overweight to begin with, so I started this diet "blind". But it has done a good job for me, and has even "forgiven" me when I cheated. 6 pounds!! Yay!

Summary: The easiest weight loss program I've ever been on !
Review: In May I bought a dress for my son's August 14th wedding. In mid June I started the Atkins program. By Aug. 7 I lost 22 lbs. and needed to have the dress taken in 2 sizes!! I am never hungry, and feel terrific. I'm Italian and I don't even miss pasta!!

Summary: THIS DIET WORKS
Review: BELIEVE ME THIS DIET WORKS! THE MAIN REASON I STARTED THIS DIET WAS OBVIOUSLY TO LOSE WEIGHT, BUT ALSO TO GET MY MOTHER TO TRY IT FOR HER DIABETES. (SHE'S A TWO SHOT A DAY INSULIN DEPENDANT DIABETIC). HER SUGAR LEVEL IS IN THE NORMAL RANGE NOW (IT USED TO BE OVER 200). CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE REDUCING YOUR INSULIN THOUGH. ALSO HER CARDIOLOGIST RECOMMENDED THAT SHE STAY ON THIS DIET BECAUSE HE HAS ALOT OF PATIENTS WHO HAVE HAD TREMENDOUS RESULTS ON IT. (SHE WAS NOT SURE THE DOCTOR WOULD APPROVE OF IT) BUT THE PROOF FOR HER IS THAT HE THOUGHT IT WAS A GREAT WAY TO CONTROL SYMPTOMS OF CARDIAC PROBLEMS NOT TO MENTION DIABETES AND WEIGHT CONTROL. SO FAR I'VE LOST 20LBS IN A MONTH AND THEY ARE STILL COMING OFF. FOR THE NAYSAYERS, SAY WHAT YOU WILL BUT THOSE OF US WHO HAVE ACTUALLY TRIED THIS DIET ARE CONVINCED THAT IT WORKS.

Summary: It works!!!!!
Review: If you want to lose weight get this book! I started the diet without knowing about this book. My friend told me the basic idea of the diet and I started it. About a week through I found this book. It answers many questions of why it works and how everyone has lied to us our whole life about nutrition. I lost 15 lb on my first 2 weeks. If I didnt get the book I would not have learned how to keep it off. I just cant believe how we have been lied to. Its like an X-files episode! The truth is out there. Buy the book, start the diet, lose weight, and live a happy healthy life.

Summary: Loose weight without starving!!!
Review: I have had a weight problem all of my life. Ive tried them all and the weight never stayed off. This is the first diet that I've been on where I didn't feel like I'm starving and the weight is comming off. I have lost 30 pounds so far. 40 to go. It has been the easiest diet for me and for those around me. I am sleeping better, feel better. Give it a try.

Summary: Update from my June 13 Review
Review: I went on the diet and lost 12 pounds. I have been adding in some carbohydrates so I went back to 10 pounds which was my goal anyway. I am now 5'7 and weigh 145 which is a big improvement from the 150's. I am able to maintain this weight eating about 30-40 carbohydrates a day. Of course everyones different, I'm lucky I can get away with that much. This is the first diet that I've been able to maintain my weight, and feel in control. On the maintanance level I have added potaoes and fruit to my diet, and sliced bread occasionally. It works perfectly for me, I'm very happy with this way of eating. If anyone has any questions feel free to email me. Also my co worker, who introduced me to Atkins has lost 17 pounds now is is very happy with the diet. This woman could not lose more than 5 pounds with the other diets she tried in the past. Thats when Atkins really impressed me.

Summary: This should be the dieters bible!!!!
Review: My daughter and I have been on this diet since March 1. I have lost 60 lbs. and my daughter 45. We both have been on many diets but this is by far the easiest. We don't really do much exercise but the weight is still coming off and that is what counts. If you love meat, this is the diet for you. Just remember, have patience, you didn't put the weight on overnight, and it won't disappear overnight, but this diet makes it alot easier to lose it. We love it, and the Atkin's Diet Bars are pretty good for a snack... the fudge brownie and the coconut are our favorites.

Summary: Nothing is THAT easy
Review: I must admit that some of the points made in this book are important for healthy eating habits, like limiting refined sugar and flour intake. However, most of the information given is questionable. Dr. Atkins bemoans the new bread and grain based food pyramid. A fitness book called "Totaly Fit" features a food pyramid that is fruit and vegetable based. That makes a lot more sense to me that having a grain or fat based pyramid.Hasanyone ever heard of obesity due to overeating of fruits and vegetables? Dr. Atkins cites the diet of the French as a good example of people staying thin in high fat diets. I hardly think that the French are doing nothing but sitting in cafes all day and wolfing down cheese and ham. The French also seem to be big carbohydrate consumers too. I don't think I could have walked more than 50 feet in central Paris without seeing a variety of baguettes and pastries in cafe windows. I also witnessed mostly thin people in Italy, a country with definetly a carbohydrate based diet. Smaller cities and higher gasoline prices in Europe force its people to rely more on bicycles and their own two feet, whereas here we just drive everywhere. Also, meals there are taken in smaller portions. I was pretty excited about this diet. I stuck with it faithfully and accurately for two solid weeks. My benefits were no more than constant lethargy, major constipation, and aching legs wherever I walked somewhere. Any reasonable person can see that this is not a healthy nor natural state for someone to be in. What happened to old fashioned everything-in-moderation? The brain needs carbohydrates to function correctly, protein builds muscle and tissues and repairs internal organs, and fats protect our internal organs and helps the body to utilize minerals and vitamins. They all work together to properly fuel our bodies. Any significant disproportion of their intake should go against common sense. By the way, all those who would like an unbiased analysis of this book should check out Consumer Reports.
