Rating: Summary: So far So good Review: Today is day 12 on the induction diet for me. I have lost approximately 10lbs(seems to vary by a lb or two)The hardest part of this diet is the first week. I also was extremely tired, and had a couple really horrible headaches, but at the beginning of week 2, that all changed. No more headaches, overall, just feel better. The most important thing to remember is no cheating! I cheated 2 days in a row and had about 12oz of hot chocalate, that stopped my weight loss and I put 2lbs back on. Apparently, sugar is an absolute no no, regardless of quantity. The only other problem I have seen is there are a lot of unanswered questions as you read this book. By the way-READ THE BOOK! It is impossible to get the full meaning of the diet otherwise. Congratulations to all of you before me who have lost on this diet! I have about another 100lbs to loose, so wish me continued success!
Rating: Summary: Thank you Dr. Atkins! Review: This is the first "diet" that I have been able to truly enjoy. The detractors and experts who are being so vocal about the Atkins Diet need to look at the facts. I do not crave sugar and carbs. I have more energy than I have had in years and I am loving it. The simple logic of this diet is pure beauty. I gained an average of ten pounds a year for the past fifteen years paying close attention to the food pyramid and consuming low-fat/no-fat foods. In just eighteen days I have lost twelve pounds, that speaks for itself.
Rating: Summary: Short term results don't hold up in th long run. Review: Many of the reviewers who give this diet a five star rating have been on the diet for less than two weeks; most have just started the diet. I too would have given it a great review on my first couple of days. However, once you get off the diet, the weight comes right back. I believed Dr. Atkins proclamations at first, but after I quickly grew tired of eating meat eggs and cheese, I started thinking how ridiculous it was of me to think that not eating carbohydrates would improve my health. I once went on a "diet" where I ate nothing but potato chips and chocolate milk: I lost 5 lbs in a week, but that didn't make it a healthy eating plan. Think about what you are doing to your body: you can cause liver damage, not to mention that Ketosis is a simptom of diabetes gone amuck...is that REALLY healthy? It is better to be a little overweight and eat lots of fruits and vegetables and MODERATE your carb and meat intake than to rapidly lose weight and ruin your body's balance. I would suggest buying a weight loss book who's ratings aren't peppered with so many "one stars", and who's "5 stars" aren't from people who have spent only a week or so on the plan.
Rating: Summary: Amazing Diet Review: This diet has definetely worked for me!!! I've been on it for 2 weeks and lost 20 lbs! That's amazing. I was so addicted to sugar and carbs that the first few days were so horrible. I wanted to cheat so bad, but then that would have messed everything up and I would be back to square one. Well, my friends have been supporting me and I stuck to it and I feel so much better. I sleep better, my mood swings are gone, menstrual cramps gone, and my figure is coming back! I have about 40 more lbs to lose and my goal is 130. It should be a piece of cake. A word to all who doubt this diet: It is not easy AT FIRST!!! Oh, how I wished I could bite into a big hamburger, but now I don't want that crap anymore! I don't need it. BUT, make sure you read THE WHOLE BOOK, and be prepared to meet the new you. Try it, GOOD LUCK!!!
Rating: Summary: So far, so good Review: I have only done it for a week and I feel Great. I used to have a bagel in the morning and by the time lunch came I was sooo hungry that I would be weak and I would binge on carbo's at lunch time. For the first time in years I feel satisfied after every meal. I am not hungry between meals. I cheated twice this week but was careful to limit the carbos each time. I kinda combined it with the "Lifespan" diet those two times and made sure to eat the "no-no" foods within an hour. I love salad now, because I can have a dressing on it that tastes good!! So far 3lbs down in one week. No bloating or head aches and I have great energy at 3pm when you usually be coming down from my sugar high lunch and running for an "energy" snack (aka-candy bar).
Rating: Summary: The only and best diet I have ever been on Review: I have been on the Atkins diet two times in my life and the first was after my second child (lost 26 lbs) and the second was after my third child. I have gone from 178 to 163 in 7 weeks. What everyone fails to realize is that Dr. Atkins gives you the tools to work with and tells you how to use them. Each individual chooses to use the tools in his/her own way. For example, most critics say that all you eat is protein and that is true for people who choose to eat protein only. In his book the New Diet Revolution he does give some recipes that have vegetables and great recipes they are. Two thumbs up to Dr. Atkins for teaching me how to eat and lose weight too. The only thing I have really semi-eliminated from my previous diet is sugar. Sugar isn't very good for you anyway so what is there to complain about. I DO NOT have bad breath or constipation because I do eat vegetables and fruit. You just have to know how to use the tools!
Rating: Summary: 1.6 year anniversary-still doing great!! Review: Don't listen to the negative unmotivated critics. Meat IS natural & healthy. Plus I have no trouble finding inexpensive & delicious selections of lamb, beef, pork, ect. Ofcourse the sugarladen crap is cheaper. It should be plus you'll pay a high price in medical bills & medications for your diabetes & obesity. I am looking good & feeling great. I don't have to deal with the gas that all the high carb foods used to give me. I have better muscle tone than ever & I weigh 120 at 5'6". (You are not supposed to gorge yourself on this diet but I found I can eat more than the crummy "balanced" diet the ADA promotes.) You can make excuses or get off your adddiction to sugar.
Rating: Summary: Restrictive, boring, can't really follow it for life Review: I probably am a "carbo-addict", but that doesn't mean my body doesn't need a lot of "good" carbohydrates. Since when did eating fruits, vegetables and grains become unhealthy?! Since when is being constipated, because you don't eat enough fiber, healthy?! I found the diet to be much too restrictive - if you are a carbo-addict, then on this diet you will certainly miss your carbs! Even though I wasn't hungry all the time, it didn't take me long to get really TIRED of meat, eggs, cheese and a little bit of "permitted" vegetables....whoopee! As soon as you increase your intake of carbs again and eat even like a reasonable person would, you'll gain back the weight. And if you don't drink tons of water to get the ketones out of your body, you could easily suffer serious consequences, such as kidney or liver disease. I also had headaches, dizziness, and sleep problems. I think a modified version may work, such as cutting out "empty carbs" like candy, junk food, cakes, chips, etc. But that's what we've been told all our lives!
Rating: Summary: Easier than I thought Review: This is the first "real" diet I've ever been on. After watching my sister in law lose 20 pounds, I decided to give it a shot. I'm not much of a meat eater, so the food hasn't been too satisfying. However, I've been experimenting with the 20 allowable carbos per day and I'm doing fine. I'm a carbo & sugar addict and this is the first time since I was a newborn that I haven't craved either. This is a miracle. What helped me meet my sweet need has been sugar free jello with chopped nuts and cream cheeze. It sounds terrible, but after a few days of being on this diet, it's very tasty. Drawbacks- my grocery bill has gone up. Other than that, the benefits outweigh everything.
Rating: Summary: Balanced Diet? Review: I get a kick out of hearing people who denounce the Atkins Diet say that all one needs to do to lose weight is limit calories, eat a balanced diet and get off your duff. Well my friends, that's what the Atkin's Diet has one do. Besides the Induction Stage of the diet, the rest of it is quite liberal and flexible. When you are 100 lbs overweight, losing any weight is a major accomplishment. What is a balanced diet anyway? Some bread, some fruit, some meat, some milk, some beer, a banana split? Try eating only carbohydrates and see how you feel. The Atkins Diet is about having more energy, and feeling better. It's also about discipline and getting into the habit of eating because your hungry not because your bored.
