Rating: Summary: Worked with metabolism booster supplement. Review: I started reading every word of the book as Dr. Atkins instructs. However, it got boring and cumbersome. So, I went right to the pages on which foods were okay and which ones were not. I lived with the book to these pages. After 2 weeks I hadn't lost anything. I don't exercise. I started taking a metabolism boosting supplement and the pounds started falling off. I have also added some carbs back. I am still loosing. Good luck.
Rating: Summary: We are Impressed! Review: My wife, 16 year old daughter and myself started the diet just over 2 weeks ago.... were finding it very easy to stay on, mainly beacuse of how much better we are all feeling... in my own case Ive suffered from high blood pressure for years...the day before I started my pressure was 180/118 within a couple of days after starting I checked it and it had come down to 150/100... after two weeks it was amazingly 135/89...I had also become TypeII Diabetic and have found that my blood sugar levels have been in a normal zone.... We didnt weigh ourselves to start out and are not sure of exact weight loss, but we all agree that its coming off, need a new belt.... I can see where one should follow the book carefully especially not forgoing the vitamin/mineral supplements... We have found the book easy to read and go back to it every day... Enjoy and dont wait to start....
Rating: Summary: Do your own research Review: Please do your own research to make up your mind about low carb eating. There's plenty of recent research proving that low carb eating is healthy even if you don't need to lose weight. Don't listen to the people repeating old, worn myths like -this diet will rot your kidneys, make your bones collapse, etc. Yeah, and your eyeballs will fall out too. Atkin's book is not the best written on the subject, and his induction beginning for the diet may be a shock to some people's systems, but by God, the man has been right for twenty years! He has suffered the slings and arrows of ignorance for all these years, and it's nice to see his vindication has begun. Read the book (and others) and give this way of eating a try.
Rating: Summary: Try the chemotherapy diet Review: This diet worked for me -- for a while. When I finally couldn't stand the deprivation any more, and tried to eat normally, all I ever thought about was bread! WHITE BREAD! Anyway, I gained all the weight back plus 20 pounds more. So have all my friends and coworkers except one woman who had only 20 pounds to lose. My health care provider told me how dangerous it was. This kind of diet is a known cause of cancer. One of my friends developed breast cancer, and boy did she lose the weight! Chemo and radiation will do it every time. The Atkins diet and chemotherapy are about the same as far as I can see: effective (sometimes), but very, very dangerous.
Rating: Summary: It Works, but Found Something Better Review: I read this book several times before starting the diet. Then I did the diet for 4 days - lost 2 lbs in 4 days, not bad. I ended up cheating because I missed my orange juice and toast, but I will tell you I felt great, I felt very "even". I also loved the fact that I could eat cheese, eggs, steak, etc. all my favorite foods. But I also eat tons of fruit and I really missed my fruit. A friend told me about Suzanne Somers Eat Great Lose Weight. Normally I would never have bought a book by Suzanne Somers but my friend lost 11lbs on it so I tried it. A lot of it is like Atkins - you can eat meat, cheese, eggs, oil, fats, etc. (and no portion control) but you can also eat carbs - pasta, bread, rice - you just don't eat them together. You can have fruit but only on an empty stomach. It's called food combining and I lost 3lbs per week, 10 lbs in a month eating all the foods I love. If you don't miss carbs, then Atkins is for you. But if you miss your cereal, bread, pasta, fruit, etc. then try this one. I felt good on Atkins, but I feel great on Suzanne Somers. Hey, the woman is in her 50s and look at her body!
Rating: Summary: Finally found the one that works! Review: I have tried everything over the years to lose weight. I could not figure out why I was trying the low-fat route and still gaining weight! Let's see, because I was substituting bread, rice, bagels, tortillas, potatoes etc for the fats? BINGO! Every other diet I have tried has left me hungry and grumpy. This diet not only works, but it satisfies me. I have been on it for 4 months and have lost 2 sizes. It feels really nice to realize that my clothes are more loose each time I wear them. I am so convinced that I can do this for the rest of my life that I have already given away my old clothes. There's no going back for me. Put 2 & 2 together and realize that the low-fat diet has been around for years, yet obesity has risen during the same time period. LOW-FAT is not the answer (for everyone). I believe that the vast majority of people need this LOW-CARB solution.
Rating: Summary: Update From Sacramento--Still Working Review: Have Been On Diet Since July 20, 1999, and after starting at 270 (6' tall), I just dropped below 200 for the first time in over fifteen years. I am about 16 pounds from my original goal weight (184, my high allowed weight on the insurance tables), but am now considering lowering that goal somewhat because it just keeps working so well. I am still losing between 6 to 8 pounds per month. I feel better than I have in years. In Sept. after losing over 30 lbs., I wrote and just hoped it kept going, now I know it does.
Rating: Summary: Myth shattering! Review: The only problem with this book is that it is so radical it is hard to believe. Our entire lives it has been engrained that fruits and vegatables are the key to a slim body and healthy life. Dr. Atkins say 'NO'. These are the foods that make you immunosupressed and overweight. He says it's fine to eat foods high in saturated fat. Its fine to eat animal protein in large amounts. Can this be right? All I can say is, if you have been trying for years to shed those pounds so you can feel GOOD again, then you should at least try the diet for the first two weeks. You will feel so much better, I think you will never go back to you're old ways of eating.
Rating: Summary: The Best Diet Ever Review: I have been overweight scence I was nine years old. I am 16 now and I was overweght until four months ago. I heard about the diet on tv and I went and got the book after I saw the results the people on tv were getting. Before I started the diet I was 252 lbs. And I was only 5'7". SO I looked horible. I was always tiered. Ia could not exersise without getting out of breath and I had very high blood presure. The diet was easy for me becuse I liked meat and if you don't like it you probly wont have the results that I had. I was loosing an amazing 5 lbs a week. I was liking those results. Now four months later I am a happy 178 lbs and have a blood presure of 145/63 and now I am 5'11". I feel the best I have ever felt in my life. I am happier and more secure with myself. SO I recomend this diet to anyone with problems loosing weight and who hate all the other diets out there.
Rating: Summary: BE HEALTHY FEEL HEALTHY Review: I have nine friends and clients on this diet now. All are showing positive results including myself (lost 28lbs in 10 weeks and I feel great!). But I agree you must read the book fully first. If you don't, like anything not done correctly, you could do yourself harm. But that doesn't make it dangerous. The bible is just as dangerous, if you only read the old testament then you'll believe in and "eye for and eye, and a tooth for a tooth...", but read on and you discover "Thou shalt not kill...". 'The New Diet Revolution' is like the bible in that it is full of hidden/important information that must be digested in its entirety. Dr Atkins book is the Bible of diets!
