Summary: This diet works - FACT
Review: There are a lot of words coming from the nutrionist out there that don't make sense. Dr. Aykins and Barry Sears are showing us the truth through real weight loss. I and my of my friend really have some lots of weight on this diet.

Great book outline why, what, and how. In great detail.

Summary: sick of eggs
Review: I bought the book after seeing a friend whom I hadn't seen in almost a year. She looked incredible! Over 4 inches of fat were gone from her arms and she was 119 pounds (down from 160 lbs). I practice martial arts up to 8 hours a week, but I could not seem to stop eating carb rich foods and the weight constantly went up. Inspired by my friend, and warned, I am now far into the 'induction' stage of the Atkins system. She warned me that it was not an easy diet and many people could not do it. Well, I am doing fine but I cannot stand the thought of another egg for breakfast! The induction stage is hard for an old pasta, pizza and veggi eater. Meat almost makes me sick to look at now. But... I really *do* feel full faster and I do not crave the foods I used to. I even went to a festival with food every where and hardly thought about it. It works, but the induction stage is hard. Book is not well organized.

Summary: Cursed By Twinkies
Review: Dr. Atkins' "New Diet Revolution" is a great book, very well thought out, and meticulously detailed. He is consumed with the idea that there is too much insulin running around in the arteries of us less-than-skinny people. A review of my diet based upon the guide in this book has led me to believe that he may be on to something. Fortunately, there is no history of diabetes in my blood family, but there is a well documented history of being shaped like a human pear with legs. I tried my best with the ideas set forth here, particularly with the rather dull but palateable recipes and the quaffing of whole bathtubs full of bottled water. The results have been moderate, but positive (or negative actually). I am now down 12 pounds from my usual weight of 265 (although prone to living and sleeping in the bathroom). The meals have been filling and the daily walks refreshing, but I am cursed by Twinkies, beef jerky, and porter. Just when the day is near done and I settle before the TV for the 10:00 showing of Baseball Tonight, the cravings begin. My belly has a mind of it's own and by the third update, it has overrun my brain and forced me to plod over to the kitchen. There, my faithful carbohydrate banes quickly undo what Dr. Atkins had worked on all day. Willpower (or lack of it) is the scourge of the nation's army of dieters and I, The Dipper, am the commanding general. I recommend this book highly to anyone with more determination than I, but take solace in a 17th-century English drinking song, "He that drinks strong beer and goes to bed mellow, lives as he ought to live and dies a hearty fellow". Maybe there's hope for me yet.

Summary: The Pyramid Lie
Review: Ever since grade school we have all been taught that the food pyramid is the way to go, the healthy way of eating. After reading 'The New Diet Revolution', you come to understand the foolishness of our ways. The book goes into exact detail on how our eating habits over the past 30 years have contributed to the demise of our health. Carbohydrates, such as breads and pastas, were once the foundation on which this pyramid was built, but now the truth is revealed that they are really the culprits in our ever losing battle with weight loss. We as Americans are the most overweight country in the world, yet we still teach our children the same pyramid lie. For anyone who wants to know the truth about weight loss and is serious enough to regain control of their health, I strongly recommend this book as the beacon to lead your way out of obesity. I myself am very impressed with the progress I have shown and it has only been a week. Begin your journey to happiness and ignore all the misinformation out there, and be sure to read the New York Times article. If anything will convince you it will be all the scientific evidence it provides to validate this nutritional approach. Good luck and happy eating!

Summary: I'm now a size 2, thanks to the Atkins way of eating!!
Review: This diet has taken me, at age 23 & 5'3", from 141 pounds & a size 10 . . . to 110 pounds & a lithe, athletic size 2. After YEARS of exercising every day, lifting light weights regularly, dutifully counting calories, & getting absolutely NOWHERE, I tried Atkins 11 months ago - and I will never again go back to the nonsense I did before.

This book is wonderful & has truly changed my life. In fact, I just bought the new 2002 edition & plan on rereading it during my Jury Duty summons tomorrow! haha

I've even gotten my husband's Dominican father dying to read this book en espaƱol . . . we ordered it off Amazon last week, & he's reading it now. What a wonderful way of eating this is!!!

Summary: Don't jump on this bandwagon
Review: This is one of the worst (in terms of health) diets you can ever go on. See how much good it did the author. Ketosis is NOT a healthy state.

If you like pseudo-science, then buy into all this.

The only "secret" is that this is yet again another low-calorie diet. That is the only reason you lose weight. Period. Basic. No magic to it.

Summary: About time, isn't it?
Review: If you are overweight to the point that you worry about your long term health, buy this book and start the diet. Do not listen to your naysaying doctor, family, and weirdo Amazon reviewers who tried the diet for three days, gave up and left a nasty review out of sour grapes. This diet could very well save your life if you are obese or simply upper-body obese.

I started this nutritional approach just over three months ago and am steadily losing about 2 pounds per week. I can reach my goal of 100 pounds lost in a year, after 25 years of being unhappily overweight.

Accept the fact that you have been lied to by Big Business health and pharmaceutical companies. Carbs are cheap to make, they have the highest margin for profit, and the "low fat" binge which has made us all much MORE FAT is just another way to charge more for something that costs them less. Refined carbs and sugars also cause countless stomach ailments and digestion problems in many people. So what do we do? We run to the drug store for more pepto, zantac, tums, etc etc etc. Big health business wants to maintain this status quo. I used to take at least 15 zantac a week, but since I began to take Dr. Atkins' adviceinstead, I have actually thrown away the box. My stomach issues are now in the past, my skin is glowing, and I'm losing weight while enjoying a plate of steak.

Please remember when reading this book, he is a very smart man who knows a lot about how the human body works. That said, his writing is a bit jerky and often long-winded. This book is not a beautiful piece of writing, but the nutritional approach it contains will help you lose weight and live a longer, more enjoyable life. It's about time.

Summary: I can't tie my shoes
Review: I can't see my own feet any more and getting out of bed has become a real challenge. My doctor says I should get some exercise and have a balanced nutritious diet based on the well known food pyramid. He also said it may take years to get back to my ideal weight since it took many years to put on all this extra weight.
Well I say Nuts (chocolate covered ones) to that!
I don't want to change my "life style" and have to wait for results. I want it NOW.
That is why I purchased this book and what a GREAT book it is. Many physicians disagree with Dr. Atkins program but I say they are jealous. It has made the good doctor rich so he must be doing something right.
I have tried hundreds of diet fads over the years with the same result. Initially lose some weight but eventually gain it back plus some. But now I have a new plan. Try a new fad diet for a month (like Dr. Atkins), go back to binging for a week, try another fad diet for a month, go back to binging for a week, etc.
This is a full proof plan and I have Dr. Atkins to thank for his sound, practical, realistic advise for leading a healthy lifestyle and finding that "magic bullet".
Thank you good doctor and nuts to my family doctor and his harebrained ideas about exercise and a well balanced diet 'cause that ain't no fun.

Summary: ATKINS WAS RIGHT
Review: He was right all along, folks. Carbs are the evil food, not fat. Cut down the carbs and watch your body shape change. It takes some getting used to, but the research backs it up. Atkins knows his stuff, and now medical researchers and the media are coming around to his way of thinking. Low fat diets do NOT work, because it's the carbs, stupid!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Like it or not, it's worth the "used" price!
Review: I found this book to be quite well written, very informative and complete. Whether one ever diets according to Atkins' recommendations, appears seemingly irrelevant, considering the knowlege contain in the text can enhance your understanding of ONE way (his version) to control obesity and diabetes. On the flip side, it's extremely self-promoting and lacks base line information for the scientific research he claims to have been done. Some of the medical jargon and/or technical language may be well beyond a laypersons understanding; it's a good thing I'm familiar with the industry or I'd have many questions to ask to merely understand some of the terms that are used. The carb counter that comes bound inside the book is helpful, but not very extensive.
