Summary: It works for me ,nice and slowly
Review: This is my third or fourth time reading the book just to make sure I am doing things right. Starting at 93 kilograms ,I now am at 87 kilograms in just over 6 weeks. So about 1,5 lbs per week . This is the only eating lifestyle that does anything for me. Two years ago I did this diet but got off track but still lost about 10 lbs in a month orso. I,m sticking with it now and realy take my time to lose it all ! It all in the mind you know :-).

Summary: He didn't do it right!
Review: The guy who said he lost 20 pounds but felt horrible wasn't following the guidelines of the Atkins diet. You're not supposed to pig out on meat just because you can. You're supposed to eat moderately. I seriously doubt eating a pound of bacon for breakfast is very moderate.

I'm just starting the diet and I already have a lot more energy. I had to try it after I saw my friend, who has already lost 30 pounds after about 3 months. This diet is safe, healthy and a great way to lose weight--if you do it correctly.

Summary: I lost 20 pounds, but felt terrible.
Review: He's on to something, but not quite there yet. I lost 20 pounds, but felt terrible.

Dr. Atkins outlines his diet featuring no carbs, but as much fat as you want. I ended up eating a pound of bacon for breakfast, and decided this wasn't such a good idea. I recommend you go see a dietician instead. Of course, it COULD work for you.

The book takes a simple idea and repeats it over and over again, until you are convinced it will work for you. Not a great read, but I guess that is not the point.

Summary: Thank you for clearing it up
Review: I sent in a short review, myself, explaining that Dr. Atkins did not have a heart attack (as erroneously stated here by a recent reviewer) but rather an infection in his heart. That review didn't make it on here (at least not yet), so thank you to the people who cleared that up. It is unfortunate when people spread rumors that are untrue and do that kind of damage. Hopefully it won't happen again.

Summary: Dr. Atkins is right and his critics are wrong.
Review: This is a well written book that explains (some of) the theory behind the famous Atkins Diet, and how to behave on the diet. It is easy to read and understand. Please note that I am nobody's medical expert, nutritionist, or doctor. The comments here are those of a layman.

As far as the content goes, in my experience this diet works precisely as Dr. Atkins' book says. I am a busy kind of guy (attorney) just like many of you. For me, a diet has to have two elements: I can't go around feeling hungry or weak while on it, and it has to work relatively quickly.

Well, this diet does both. After about 2 days on the diet I experienced what can only be described as a burst of energy. I literally never feel hungry now that I am on this diet, even at mealtime, and I go through the day never feeling that ghastly weak, craving feeling that a lo-calorie regime entails. This was vitally important to me--during the day and frankly all the time, I simply must feel energised. This diet provides that in spades.

As far as results go, all I can say is that results exceed all expectations. I'm back to where I was before I decided that there was a problem. I'm wearing suits I simply couldn't wear a month ago. Suits that have hung in my coatroom, staring balefully at me, for the past several years.

I was on this diet for 7 years back in the 1980s and finally went off it in the late 80s because weight ceased being an issue in my life (the diet worked so well). I now see that going off of it was a mistake. I won't be repeating it. This diet is not really a diet. It is a way of life.

The only downside to this diet is that you really have to watch what you order in restaurants. Restaurants love to put carbohydrate sauces and dressings on everything, and you have to watch that. However, this book tells you how to manage this problem. I eat in restaurants every day and I manage fine.

This book is the only diet book I've ever seen or heard of that is worth a darn. If you are having trouble managing your body weight (and who, after age 40, is not?) this book deserves your attention.

Summary: He did not have a heart attack
Review: Please do not post things that are not true. Dr. Atkins developed an infection inside his heart. He picked up the infection while on a camping trip. This diet works very well, and I've noticed that most of those who criticize it did not go on the diet themselves, but are speaking from a knee-jerk reaction (or "hearsay"). People should not rate this diet unless they have actually been on it. Read the reviews; all these people the diet worked for (and experienced dramatic improvements in their health) cannot be wrong.

Summary: Clarification on Dr. Atkins heart condition
Review: Statement on the Status of Dr. Robert C. Atkins' Health from Dr.
Atkins and from the Chief Executive Officer/President of The
Atkins Companies
April 25, 2002
On Thursday April 18, Dr. Robert C. Atkins, the well-known nutrition expert and best selling author, did, in fact,
experience cardiac arrest during breakfast. He was quickly revived by an associate and taken to the hospital.
As this was not a heart attack (or myocardial infarction), but a cardiac arrest related to an infection of the heart
he has been suffering from for a few years, Dr. Atkins experienced a speedy recovery and was released from
the hospital on Wednesday, April 24. In fact, Dr. Atkins hopes to return to his responsibilities, including local
speaking engagements and as chairman of the Dr. Robert C. Atkins Foundation, within the next week or so. His
doctors have advised him to curtail his travel plans for the next 30 days as a precautionary measure.
The cause of this event was cardiomyopathy, not blocked arteries. Over the last couple of years, Dr. Atkins
has had an infection of the heart muscle (called the myocardium) contracted during an overseas trip. Coupled
with the extreme heat conditions of mid-April here in New York, the 71-year old Dr. Atkins suffered this event.
"We have been treating this condition, cardiomyopathy, for almost two years," explains Patrick Fratellone MD,
Dr. Atkins' personal physician and cardiologist, "and during the course of diagnosis, we discovered that Dr.
Atkins' coronary arteries were normal as diagnosed by an angiogram performed at Columbia Presbyterian
Hospital on the upper west side of New York City in April of 2001. Clearly, his own nutritional protocols have
left him, at the age of 71, with an extraordinarily healthy cardiovascular system. Unfortunately, the
infection-related cardiomyopathy is totally another matter."
"I have had cardiomyopathy, which is a non-coronary condition and is in no way related to diet,"says Dr.
Atkins.
Cardiac arrest is an event in which the heart abruptly stops. It is not the same thing as heart attack in which the
heart is severely deprived of oxygen but still beating. Certainly a heart attack (or myocardial infarction) is one of
the known causes of cardiac arrest, but there are several others that have nothing to do with blocked arteries
and other problems typically associated with a heart attack.
Cardiomyopathy is a condition in which the heart's ability to pump blood is weakened because of enlargement,
thickening or stiffening of the heart muscle. In Dr. Atkins' case, this cardiomyopathy was caused by an infection
that spread to his heart muscle.
"Up until today, this has been a personal and private family matter for Dr. Atkins. It is unfortunate for the family
that it has not remained so, said Paul Wolff, Chief Executive Officer/President of The Atkins Companies. " The
Atkins Nutritional Approachâ„¢ is based on controlled carbohydrate nutritional science and has helped millions of
people achieve their goals of weight loss, weight maintenance, good health and increased energy for the past
30 years."

Summary: The best thing that ever happened to my health!
Review: This diet is wonderful! I was always very beautiful with a wonderfully slim figure. However, after having three children, I began gaining weight, my skin looked bad and I felt horrible (I was very insulin-resistant). I refused to accept this as a part of getting older (I'm only 32!) and have tried different diets over the last four years. I have been on Dr. Atkin's diet for 6 months, now. Not only has Dr. Atkin's diet helped me to lose wieght, but my skin is glowing again, I feel like I did at 19 (wonderful!), and my PMS symptoms have diminished. I never feel hungry and I am enjoying experimenting with different low-carb recipes. Thank you Dr. Atkins!

Summary: wise up "a reader from Canada"
Review: Just the title of your review sets you apart as someone who is fully ignorant of Dr. Atkins and his Diet Revolution...

First of all, Dr. Atkins DID NOT suffer a "severe heart attack", he suffered "cardiac arrest"... believe me, there is a BIG difference... Dr. Atkins' heart STOPPED... he could have died... but it had nothing to do with his diet... it was "cardiomyopathy", and caused by an infection...

A "heart attack" or myocardial infarction (MI) happens when there is a blockage in the heart, and the muscles in the heart are cut off from the blood supply... the heart doesn't STOP unless there is also "cardiac arrest"... A "heart attack" can cause severe damage to the heart muscles... this did NOT happen to Dr. Atkins...

Ten years ago, I personally suffered a "heart attack" (MI)... At the time, I ate a low fat, high carb diet, and worked out every day... the MI was caused by blockage... I now trust Dr. Atkins with my life...

Your "facts" are simply dangerous... and your ignorance negates anything else you may have to say. Good luck.
