Review: Need I say more? This diet works, is easy to follow and is a practical long-term lifestyle choice. I can't imagine how much more weight I would have gained if I had stayed on the low-fat, high-carb diet. Then a co-worker told me about the Atkins diet and I checked it out for myself. The weight came off extremely fast at first (50 pounds in three months) but slowed down as I started to add a few carbs back into my diet. I started exercising regularly after the first month or so and haven't stopped. I love the results. It's only a matter of time before government health officials get with the program and start advocating a low-carb diet. It seems that they're starting to.

Summary: A Sceptic Convinced
Review: I'm a scientist, and I tend to dismiss diet books as fads. But when I started hearing stories about doctors admitting they were wrong about Dr. Atkins, I decided to check it out for myself. Frankly, even at that point I didn't expect it to work. I won't belabor the point, but put simply, this book is a revalation. Dr Atkins will tell you how to eat, lose weight, and keep the weight off. It worked for me, it can work for you too.

Review: This diet is my last resort!I was so desparate to loose weight on
January 10 I picked up my freind's book and read about the diet. I started that day! It is January 20 and I have lost 12 pounds so far and I am totally encouraged! I am eating the food I love,
I am a type II-diabetic and my blood sugar which was uncontrollable; it has been normal since I started. I went from 80 units of insulin a day last Friday to 5 units in less than a week.This is better than losing weight,it's losing weight and losing the insulin drudge and the needle at te same time. I would recommend any overweight diabetic to seriously consider following this plan.

Summary: Excellent Guideline for Losing Weight
Review: I saw the documentaries and heard all the hype about Dr. Atkins' diet and simply dismissed it as a fad diet that would fade away as do so many of these things. But when our gastroenterologist recommended this diet to my husband, and it worked, I was astonished, not to mention delighted. He lost weight, his blood pressure dropped, and he felt better physically. Take my word for it, Dr. Atkins knows what he's talking about.

Summary: The truth about health and weight loss!
Review: Atkin's tell us the truth about health and weight loss! For years I've believed that I should have sugars and bread, but when I eat them and keep my fat intake to a minimum, I get very ill. I read this book and FINALLY I realized that I'd been duped all along.

Now I follow the Atkins method for weight loss, exercise and Vita-Nutrients and my chronic fatigue/fibromyalgia is GONE! This is a "life-style" that is easy to adopt and maintain!

You do not need medications to counter-act the symptoms of disease, you need Atkins' diet and Vita-Nutrient solutions to rid yourself of them once and for all.

Just by my reading his books, Dr. Atkins has saved my life and reinfused my zest for living. I've since recommended his diet to others and they have been successful, as well.

Thank you Dr. Atkins, from all of us!

Summary: This diet made us sick!
Review: You lose weight and don't feel hungry. But, the diet made both my wife and I so sick by the end of the 4th day, we stopped it.
Ketosis, which occurs by the third day, is BAD for your body!

Summary: THIS DIET WORKS!!!!!
Review: I started this diet in March of 2002. As of this morning, I have lost 50 lbs. I only have 10 pounds to go until I reach my goal!!! I have tried numerous diets in the past, but this is the only one that has worked. The weight loss was very slow at first because of all the prescriptions I was taking, but eventually I was able to stop taking all of my medications. I had depression, high blood pressure and allergies; all of which have gone away since doing this diet. My blood pressure stays around 120/80 and that's without exercise!!! This book really motivates you, especially when he tells you you're not alone and that some people are resistant to weight loss (as I was). The key to this diet is to not give up. You have to tell yourself you're going to lose weight and stick to it!!! Don't think you can do it for a week or two and go off of it. You have to stick to it. It has taken me 10 months to lose 50 lbs., but it was so worth it. I love the compliments I get now and I feel so much better about myself. This diet will also teach you how to eat healthier for life. This diet is a way of life and I know I can stick to it from now on because I feel better than I have in years. Do yourself a favor and make the best New Year's Resolution you possibly can, make this your healthiest year ever by doing this diet!!!

Summary: Don't listen to the naysayers.
Review: As you have probably recognized by now, those who write negative reviews of this book are in the extreme minority. That fact alone is evidence that this program works. But if you read the naysayers' reviews, many of them are rambling diatribes telling you how the Atkins diet is so extremely dangerous that you are sure to drop dead of a heart attack, not to mention having to go on dialysis when your kidneys shut down. I even read one negative review which told me that my eyes would turn yellow! The problem with these peoples' assertions is that they produce not one shred of credible clinical evidence to back them up. If you're going to make such assertions, then point me to the documented clinical cases of all these terrible things happening to Atkins devotees. This diet has been around for a long time now, so there has been ample time for documentation of such effects if they existed.

I have also heard critics of the Atkins program say that it has a poor rate of weight loss retention. However, I have seen no empirical data which would indicate that it has a "poorer" rate than any other weight loss program. The simple fact is that many people are going to gain all the weight back regardless of the program they utilize, because they revert back to the eating habits which made them overweight in the first place. Therefore, recidivism is caused by a defect of the person's behavior, not the program they used.

This diet works, plain and simple. It allows you to eat until satisfied, which keeps you from giving up due to having to go hungry. I highly recommend it.
