Summary: Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution
Review: The Atkins diet has changed my life! I've lost over 20+ pounds so far. I have much more energy, go-gettiveness, and I'm much more happy! A diet that that lets you eat all you love to eat, at reasonable quantities (of course). Also, some people are vehimetly oppossed to this diet, saying it causes high blood preassure, and high cholestorol. NO IT DOESN'T!! I just had my regularly scheduled doctors appointment and my blood preasure and cholestorol are as low as they have ever been in my life. You, also, do not just loose 'water wheight' you shed actuall fat pounds. My one friend (the one that introduced me to Atkins) has lost over 150 pounds. No one has that much water wheight! Do they? I think not. He's also experienced a big change in his life, he is more happy, energy filled, and you name it. I do caution however not to jump right in and cut carbs all together. You have to whene yourself off to a maxium number a day. Once you reach that number don't eat anymore carbs until the next day. In closing, pick up the book! At least read it, it may change your life.My friend recommended this book highly and she recommended a great new beverage that replaced my morning cup of joe. Caffeine made me too jittery so I switched to a soy-based coffee that taste simply amazing. When I use my percolator it comes out with a rich, full bodied taste. Search under "S oyfee" on google to find it.

Summary: Great All- Around Good Eating Habit Suggester
Review: I wish I had read his works years ago, but I did not because of all of the controversy surrounding him. After lowering my carbs, I felt more energetic and my clarity of thought was better. I always felt okay, but I noticed a difference for the better after trying his low carb diet. As a vegetarian, I had difficulty with his low carb diet such as induction because few foods that are not fish, meat or poultry have low carbs. I went to eating poultry but did not like that. So, I would say (and he does mention this) staying on induction is difficult if you are a vegetarian because to eat under 20 carbs a day is not that easy over a several day or week long period, but anything is possible. However, I was glad to find additional choices through reading his literature--I went to herbal fruit ice teas instead of fruit juices, and stopped eating bread. I used ot eat a lot of french rolls, and pastries like spinach rolls. I had bread with everything--what a disaster. Some of my favorite foods are still okay. I can actually have heavy cream or half and half (such as with iced coffee or hot chocolate) instead of just regular milk. Cheese is okay. So, it is not like the doctor totally puts a damper on one's eating style. He just teaches one to eat more correctly. Some of his vegetarian recipes are quite good. Sometimes, I still eat junk food sweets but not as much and I am trying to cut them out completely because I really feel they serve no purpose at all. I noticed that lowering my carbs reduced my cravings for sweets. I guess he was a great doctor and a very helpful, good soul.

I did like the authors suggestion for caffeine-free beverages. I've been off coffee after my doctor told me it caused me acid indigestion. He recommended a coffee replacement called S o yfee made from soya beans and it taste great. I found it on the net at www. s o y c o f f e e .com

Summary: Atkins will help the "impossible" come true
Review: I decided to buy this book in January 2004 and start the Atkins "diet"... after learning not to use the dreaded "D" word anymore, I began my new eating lifestyle.
This book is very informative. He doesn't just tell you what to do and that "it will work" he explains exactly what happens in your body and chemically what happens when you do & don't eat sugar or other processed carbohydrates. I not only learned a lot about how my body functions, I learned my new way of life was the perfect way for me.
I am 26 years old, and like I said I started Atkins on my birthday in Jan. 2004. I weighed at least 350, not sure exactly, the hosptial scales didn't go higher than that. As of Oct 2004, not even a year later, I am over 100 lbs lighter, off my blood pressure medicine and not ever looking back!
I am really tired of the critics who say this is the new "fad" for the year, it's only "water weight," it doesn't work, your cholesterol raises off the charts... LIES. All lies.
Do they honestly want people to believe that I have lost over 100 lbs of WATER? I am trying to eat healthier and by doing so, lose the weight. I had my blood checked for EVERYTHING they could, and my blood work came out perfect. And that's not to say that my family doesn't have issues from generation to generation. My father went in for 5 bypasses on his heart when I was in high school... and he is not/was not over weight.
This book will explain it all and help people who believe it's impossible for them to lose weight, and give you a miracle, like I have gotten.

Summary: It made a difference
Review: I was depressed about my weight. I went to the doctor, who sent me to a nutritionist. I followed the nutritionst's recommendations to the letter...kept my calories under 1,000 per day, kept a journal of everything I ate, and joined a fitness center. I worked out at least 4 times a week, for up to 80 minutes, and two months in a row was in the top 3 at the fitness center for total exercise effort. In three months, I lost 2 pounds. Talk about frustration!

Then I found Atkins. In 2 months, I lost 20 pounds, I was never hungry, my mood and energy improved, I quit counting calories and cut back on exercise. And the weight continued to come off the entire time I followed the diet...total of 35 lbs, which was my goal.

Exercise and low fat diet didn't work.

Atkins did.

Summary: This works almost painlessly
Review: I've read many reviews of this book and the way of life it promotes, and I feel the need to add my two cents to the mix. To those who complain that they, or someone they knew, gained the weight back after they "went off" the diet: Of course you gained the weight back when you resumed the eating habits that made you fat in the first place. The Atkins Diet does not claim you will suddenly be able to eat whatever you want after you've lost the weight you want to lose. I think the reason this diet is so successful is that people see results right away, and that's a powerful motivator. I can honestly say I was never actually hungry on Atkins, which is not to be confused with having the strong desire to eat junk food just for the sake of eating it. There are many psychological and physiological reasons we become overweight, and Atkins works for me. To those who feel this plan isn't healthy, which is better--remaining obese or losing the weight?
