Rating: Summary: I CANT BELIEVE THIS DIET!!! Review: This is my second review. I am begining my forth week on the diet. I have lost 22 pounds and my blood pressure is almost normal. I was on Blood Pressure Medicine for 4 years. I have under Doctors Supervision stopped my medication at the start of this diet. I did have all the recomended tests befor begining this diet I will be retested for cholesterol next month. Get the ketone sticks they really help boost your morale. My husband is dieting with me and has lost 25 pounds. We are so excited!!. We are experiencing no hunger and our appetites are satisfied. Best diet we have every been on and we have been on many.
Rating: Summary: makes sense! Review: I have read the book and it came at a time when I was really depressed. I had been trying to seriously lose weight for the past 2 years, with the conventional low fat, low calories diet. I have never been one to eat meats and eggs or fatty foods like bacon. After reading this book I realized how much carbs and sugar I had in my diet. I made sure I ate bagels, salads, fruits & vegie and it wasn't working for me,even with all the walking, running and jazzercise I was doing. I was ready to give up. Plus I have been feeling unhealthy and having a few sugar shakes. Today is my first day on this diet and I am a little sluggish. But I'm going to keep at it. I was reading some of the reviews, and I was kinda of surprised that some people seem to think it's so unhealthy. It seems to me that the conventional diet our society pushes is making a majority of us unhealthy. Something obviously has to change. Reading the book it makes sense. I certainly have gotten more explainations and answers from Dr. Atkins than I ever have from my doctors or even a dietian, who at one time put me on a 600 calorie a day diet. If anything messed up my metabolic, that certainly did.
Rating: Summary: It worked for me. Review: Dr. Atkins is the best, but one should also read Protein Power, The Carbohydrate Addicts Diet, Sugar Busters, etc. I've been "low-carbing" since September 28, 1996, starting with Atkins's very low carbohydrate regimen and increasing my carb intake as I increased my exercise. I dropped 30 lbs. and four inches from my waistline the first six months and have easily stayed at 200 lbs since then. Also, my migraines have stopped, blood pressure went from 140/90 to 120/70, chronic tendonitis went away, as did my irritable bowel syndrome symptoms. I eat mainly meat, fish, low-carb dairy, eggs, nuts, and cruciferous veggies. I make desserts (ice cream, pudding, cake) with ingredients like cream, whey powder, non-sugar sweeteners like stevia, unsweetened chocolate, flax flour, etc. The low-carbohydrate lifestyle will work for some and not for others. It's worth a try for all who are unhappy with their present weight and/or lack of good health. Atkins is the best place to start.
Rating: Summary: Oh yes it does work Review: I have been on this diet for 15 months. I have not been a person to try different diets. I have always been overweight, but my weight has never bothered me as much as I guess it bothered others. Decided to try this diet after another nurse I work with lost weight on it and told the rest of us how simple it is to follow. I have lost 54 pounds. My weight loss has been slow, probably because I go off it at times, but always get back on the schedule. This is not a hard diet to follow. I am thrilled that I can go into a store and now buy regular sized clothes instead of going to the "large" ladies store. My two sisters both thought I was crazy to be on this diet. Well they both have now gone on it and lost 30 pounds each. I have another 40 pounds to lose and know I will do it. If it takes another year, I don't care. I'm not suffering and I have no ill side effects from following this diet for 15 months. If you are the type of person who feels you can't stick to a diet, this is one you should try. I have a sweet tooth and eating whipped cream and nuts takes care of my sweet cravings. I have given four of these books to friends for gifts after they have expressed an interest in trying the diet. Rating: Summary: the best diet there is Review: I have tried every diet under sun and this is the only one that works. I have been on it for 12 days and I have lost 10lbs. I feel great and I know I can loose the other 40lbs. The first 2 days were very hard for me but I stuck it and here I am with the fat melting away. It is the only diet that works for me.
Rating: Summary: the book is too long - but the diet really works Review: I read the entire book and foung it to be too long in parts. It could be half the length and still convey the essential information. A companion carb counter booklet is very helpful.The diet is terrific, my cravings for starches, sweets etc. have definitly diminished. I have lost about 10 - 15 lbs in 4 -5 wks. One of the best "snacks" is pork rinds with salsa or cheese queso (only about 4 -5 carbs per serving). Also, sugar free jello with the canned whipped cream is great. The big question I have is what is happening to my blood chemistry. I wish Dr. Atkins had a web site with an e-mail link to answer questions. (If he does I haven't found it)
Rating: Summary: THANK YOU DR. ATKINS --LOSE WEIGHT ON STERIODS !!!!! Review: I have a chronic connective tissue disease and take 25 mgs. of prednisone daily !! Dr. Atkins diet has enabled me to MAINTAIN my weight for over 18 months. My Doctors are amazed that I have not gained the normal 50 lbs. If you need to lose weight and are healthly - this will work ---if you are on steriods -- you can also lose and or maintain you weight !! Only problem I had was LOW POTASSIUM - from chronic steriod use, the diet and diuretics so if you are in my situation take potassium supplements, Good luck !!
Rating: Summary: I'm going back on Review: I bought this book years ago, but couldn't get myself to do it - it was so contrary to common beliefs. But 5 years and almost 60 pounds more later (all the while excercising and eating mostly salad and low fat stuff) I started again. I started to loose weight and felt GREAT, but freaked at the high-fat thing (eating MACADAMIA NUTS for snacks!) Now I've started to gain AGAIN. I'm going back on - screw what the general public thinks - I'm trusting my body's healthy reaction

Rating: Summary: I am still debating!! Review: Well - i started out strong but by the third day the thought of anymore cheese, eggs,and meat made me sick. i was so sluggish i couldn't get off the couch!!! i ended up missing half of the day outdoors with my family. while i understand the whole philosophy dr. atkin's presents, i just can't get comfortable with no fruits, limited vegetables and sugar substitutes like aspartame and nutrasweet. it is true that i did not experience any hunger and my appetite was absolutely suppressed. however this was to the point where no food seemed appealing - i couldn't even get myself to drink. at times i feel desperate enough to lose weight to try anything - after 2 kids in 18 months Lord knows i need it - but making myself feel sick is not the way. i am happy to see this diet has worked for so many people. when i find something else i'll write a book about it and make a million!!!
