Summary: This diet works like no other I've tried!
Review: After 37 years of weight problems, I finally feel that I know how NOT to be fat. The recommended foods satisfy my appetite and cause consistent weight loss. As an additional bonus, other health problems (such as minor arthritis) have disappeared. My energy is great!

Summary: Very well written; easily understood. Easy plan to follow!
Review: I have read Dr. Atkins book cover to cover a couple of times! I have followed his advice and have lost 14 lbs. in under two weeks! For those who have tried all diets with minimal results, I highly recommend giving this a try. Getting the book is essential.

Summary: Concept works - web problem
Review: Quite simple, keep the Carbs below 30-60 grams (I don't believe in the 0 carb imersion concept for 14 days, too much shock to system)

I've lost 5 lbs in 2 weeks, and most importantly I look/feel much better.

What is really increadable: AMAZON IS THE *ONLY* MESSAGE BASE FOR THIS DIET! I've found nothing else that's significent searching Yahoo.

Atkinscenter's site is the pits. Why? You'd think that they would be the center for all discussion and links. This is a problem, and disturbing.

Comments welcome.

Summary: The Proof Is In the Pudding (Except Pudding Ain't Allowed)
Review: This diet works. This doctor can write. This is, without a doubt the BEST approach to losing weight and the healthiest way to eat and live. One fella said the diet is expensive. I say, have you noticed lately how much a quadruple coronary bypass costs?

Some say the menu choices are limited? Maybe during the induction diet but Rack of Lamb to Lobster cooked in Butter with a tossed salad and brocolli with cheese for your dinner doesn't sound like deprivation to me. Some say Dr. Atkins doesn't prove his case. Well, that is not what I found out when I lost 29 pounds in the first two weeks.

Others claim the INDUCTION phase (first 14 days) doesn't provide adequate nutritional support for a long-term diet program. They obviously skipped the part (page 100 ff) where Dr. Atkins strongly recommends that dieters take a broad multi-vitamin four times a day and where he suggests other dietary supplements for various concerns readers may experience or need help addressing.

Finally, I commend Dr. Atkins .. his book is written on a seventh-grade level which coupled with the low cost of a paperback makes it available to the masses at a very small price. He also takes the time to explain all medical terms and to make the results of scientific studies understandable to the least of us. This is a man who has helped more patients on a one-to-one basis than any other physician, and he is a man who has taken the time to educate the public vis-a-vis his radio shows and books so that millions can benefit from his discoveries and experiences.

I owe my life to Dr. Atkins. After 25 years of smoking one and a half packs daily, I started putting on pounds and I make a Herculean effort to follow a LOW FAT, HIGH CARBOHYDRATE diet. I had NEVER eaten more of the "RIGHT" foods and less of the "BAD" foods in my life. And, yet I was gaining nearly a pound every week. At the same time my blood pressure was pushing unhealthy levels while my blood sugar levels became quite erratic. Previously, I never hated vegetables but never ate them regularly. And, fruit, I avoided like the plague since it gave me lots of acid reflux. But, fearing the worst, I was determined to eat lots of fruit and vegetables and I guzzled juices like they were soda pop. I can say I even got to like them albeit I also was downing nearly a dozen Rolaids to handle the reflux I was experiencing. And, yet, nothing was working ... my effort to stem off weight gain as a result of quitting smoking was a failure. Doing everything right was VERY wrong. Fortunately, a friend pointed me in the right direction ... and there I stand confident in the Dr. Atkins weight loss program. Low fat and high carbs works for about 5% of the population who has the discipline to stick with it despite the pain. Look at the people who are on it ... drawn and tired looking and they will tell you they are ALWAYS hungry even shortly after eating a meal. Under the Dr. Atkins program, if you are hungry, the Doctor tells you to open your mouth and eat like God intended ... just stay with foods authorized.

As for me, I enjoyed the induction phase. It showed I could effortlessly lose weight and not feel like warmed-over death. I felt better, had more energy, no more brain-fog and I did not feel tired and worn out at the end of the day.

I hope you will decide to try the diet. I have given the books to a few of my friends and even a few family members I'd like to see stick around for a few more decades if the good Lord doesn't return first. Do yourself a favor; it's a good read and VERY enlightening. Stop folks lying to you ... check out the facts. It'll save your life. Ciao and God bless. Tony.

Summary: A dangerous temporary weight loss program
Review: Sending your body into ketosis (Dr. Atkins basic weight loss method) is both dangerous and counterproductive, as it forces you body to burn muscle. If you want to get rid of fat, eating more of the same will not help.

Summary: I've been on the diet for a year and it works!
Review: I've been on the Atkins' diet for 1 year. I am 28 years old and 5 feet 9 inches in height. I weighed 210lbs at the start of the diet and had a 36 inch waist. After the first two weeks of the diet I lost 12lbs. After three months I had lost a total of 40lbs 170lbs and my waist size was down to a 33. Thru the winter I had gone on and off it and still maintained my weight at about 175lbs. I decided that I would start going to the gym, still staying on the diet. My body has never been this cut in all my life. I am now weighing in at 172lbs with a 32 inch waist. I didn't have a 32 inch waist in high school when I was at 165lbs..Go figure. My cholesterol is well below normal and I feel great and have never been this energized. The book is not the best piece of writing but his theories and studies work. I only take a multi-vitamin and the chromium on this diet and still drink on the weekends 7 and 7's. This diet may not work for everyone but it worked wonders for me. THANK YOU! DR. ATKINS!!!!

Summary: I'm doing this for triglycerides - and it's working!
Review: My doctor recommended this book to me as a way to lower my triglycerides (313 at the end of June). I followed the diet faithfully, and by the end of July I'd lost 10 pounds (something I'd despaired of ever doing) and the triglycerides were down to 238. The cholesterol is also coming down, and the LDL/HDL ratio is looking lots better, too. And - I was eating beef, cheese, whippped cream - go figure!

The book has lots of good information, not only about how the diet works, but about ways to make different stages of the diet fit your life. I keep referring to the book and learn something new just about every time I pick it up. There's enough there to keep me going for the long haul.

Summary: I read the entire book in one evening, it is a great book.
Review: Everything in this book described me and all diets I've ever been on. I have lost the same 20 lbs at least 5 times in the last 15 years, and keep gaining it back. I've drank the shakes, popped the pills, ate the grapefruit, and slurped the cabbage soup, and still have the weight to loose. My metabolism is so shot out I decided to give Dr Atkins a try, and it is working. After only 15 days I have lost 7 lbs and feel great. I am able to eat more now than I ever have been able to eat on any other diet. I highly recommend his program to anyone with at least 10 lbs to loose.

Summary: The Proof is in the "Pudding" -- the diet works.
Review: A year ago at age 70 after my gall bladder was removed, I was diagnosed with type II diabetes. In addition, my cholesterol and triglycerides were too high, and the "good" and "bad" cholesterol ratio was poor. The doctor's prescription was: lose weight, exercise, avoid sugar. He left it up to me to carry this out. At the urging of my librarian daughter I bought the Atkin's book. Now I'm a professional, having spent a lifetime doing basic research in the physical sciences for a large company. Suffice it to say,I know what it takes to carry out research to a provable conclusion. With this in mind, I set out to evaluate the Atkin's diet. Being a professional, I am also a skeptic, and if I had any pre-conceived biases - it was I initially viewed Atkins as one more money-grubbing "quack." After four months on the diet I went in for my blood tests. This was a "make it" or "break it" test as far as I was concerne! d. If the results were negative I was prepared to stop the diet. However, much to my surprise, my blood sugar was now normal; the cholesterol and triglycerides were normal; the "good" and "bad" cholesterol ratio was now reversed and normal; I had lost 30 pounds, and 2 inches off my waist. At present, I am on the "maintenance" phase of the diet. I monitor my weight, blood pressure, and blood sugar every Monday A.M. My conclusion: The diet works, but it is not as pleasant as depicted in the book. And I would suggest the book be revised down to less than 100 pages.
