Rating: Summary: THIS BOOK HAS CHANGED MY LIFE !!! Review: Although this diet may not be for everyone, I LOVE IT!! I started in April of this year at a size 22 and as of last month I reached my goal size - 10 !!!! I have incredible amounts of energy and feel great about the way I look. I have always had problems losing weight, this plan was easy and the results were QUICK!! I encourage anyone with a REAL weight problem to read the book completely and be comfortable with the plan prior to starting it. However, if you are just looking to lose 10 - 15 lbs. this is not the diet for you. GOOD LUCK !!!
Rating: Summary: Feeling Great and Looking better! Review: I started this diet May 22, 1998. Weighing in at 172 lbs, 5'2", I was desperate to try it. After trying all sorts of stuff, I was washed out on "DIETS". Now it is September 3, 1998, and I am weighing in at 144 lbs. I have increased my exercise to 5 days a week of aerobics at least 45 minutes a day. The symptoms many people have shared, I experienced too! But I got through them. The one sympton that I can not relate to is the lack of energy. I did increase my water intake to 64 oz a day, and the 1st day I miss the target of at least 32 ozs, I can feel it the next day. One sympton that I encountered and overcome was the muscle cramping associated with the increase of exercise. I added in Potasium and Magenism and feel great. Those of you of are a lil leary of this diet, please read the book throughly not just once, but twice. It works, and the concept is simple. Since my eye catching results, several people at my office are on this, and have experienced great results. I am truly thankful for this discovery and so is my Husband. Keeping in touch with the ketostix testing has really kept me encouraged. I have to admit, I have ate off the diet a few times, but have not fallen off the weight reduction. Another big issue I experienced, is the inch loss. I noticed that more in the first month than anything. Keep the faith.
Rating: Summary: IT WORKS!! Review: I wrote a reveiw back in June stating my husband and I started it and he lost 9lbs and I quit. Well it is Sept. and my husband has gone off and on it and has lost 15 lbs. I started again 5 days ago and have lost 5lbs. TAKE VITAMINS!! My husbands cholesterol is 186 afer being on the diet for 3 months.My mom started it about three weeks ago and has lost 15 lbs. She has seen a cardiologist and he wants her to continue. She has been on several medications for diabetes and she went off them. Her Glucose levels have stabalizued at a normal level. A friend of mine went on it and her choleterol went from 266 to 184!! Her Dr. told her to stay on it. My brother has lost 42lbs in 3 months. He still has about 30 more to go!! Dr. Atkins says eat 20 grams of carbs or less. I have been eating 20-30 and am still losing. I found the first part of the book boring. After you get to the Induction Diet the book gets better.

I started this diet on June 29, 1997. I weighed in excess of 425 pounds, and I'm 5' 7" tall. Today, March 28, 1998, I weigh 262 pounds. I started this diet witha 66 inch waist, now it's 46". My sport coat size went from 62 to 50. I eat when I'm hungry, eat foods I like, and don't have a problem sticking to the diet. I found that I'm not tempted to breads or other starches, they really don't smell or taste that good anymore. My doctor was very against this diet, but since he's seen ho much weight I've lost, it's hard to deny the fact that it works. I take multvitimins to offset the unbalanced nature of the diet, but do not find that I'm overly tired. I really don't see a problem with changing my eating habits to make this work. It sure works better than any other diet that I've tried. The current low fat, high carbo diet that AMA endorses just isn't for me. I can't say enough good things about it! Rating: Summary: Good diet for someone who doesn't want to cut calories. Review: It is an easy read, and contains logical and detailed arguments for a low carb diet. I am using it, and must admit that I do not feel hungry all the time anymore, and am beginning to lose the lbs I have always had trouble losing and keeping off (even WITH exercise). The diet itself is easy to implement, and there is enough variety in the foods to keep you on it. My criticisms are: 1) that I don't think there is enough emphasis on maintaining an exercise program in conjunction with the diet. 2) There seems to be an over reliance on multivitamins to supplement the diet. Bottom line: This is a must try for anyone who has ever given up on ultra low calorie diets, or just can't seem to lose that extra 10 lbs, even while exercising.
Rating: Summary: Entertaining, but a little unreal Review: This diet started out with a bang! I read the book in 2 days (it is entertaining and informative), and began the diet. I was able to stick to it, because you are allowed all the fat/protein you want. However, my mental faculties weren't thrilled with it! My brain was dead, my moods were unreal. I was miserable and felt trapped inside a failing body. I had NO energy to work out. I had to quit this diet and go to something a bit more liberal. Thanks anyway!
Rating: Summary: This diet is NOT for everyone. Review: I am a healthy,active 29 year old who wanted to lose 10 pounds last year. I tried this diet, lost 8 pounds in one week and felt exhausted. I went for a 5 mile hike and could barely reach the top of the trail I was breathing so hard. Furthermore, I got sick of eating cheese and meat at every sitting. If you only need to lose 10 pounds, DO NOT TRY THIS DIET. I have since lost the weight, by being careful about what I eat, and including LOTS of veggies and fruits in my diet.
Rating: Summary: This is a review of how Dr. Atkins' diet has worked for me. Review: I have been on every diet known to man and this is the only one that has ever worked for me. I have lost 8 lbs. in a month and my husband has lost 14 in the same amount of time. I am terribly addicted to carbohydrates and have, at many times, been out of control over them. On this diet I am eating until full, am enjoying the taste of sweets by using artificial sweeteners, and don't have to snack between meals any more, although you are allowed to on this diet. In short, I no longer binge, no longer have out-of-control cravings, and don't even consider myself dieting anymore. The "down side" of this diet is that I was terribly thirsty for the first two weeks, and if you are a woman on estrogen replacement therapy for menopause symptoms, your weight loss will be slower. Also, it is quite difficult to find some of the ingredients in his recipes, and he uses soy powder, soy protein and soy flour as replacements for regular flour. The powder and protein taste okay, but I don't care for the taste or texture of soy flour. In addition, he advises you to take his supplements, which are very expensive. However, I do heartily recommend this diet for anyone who has been on Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, Slim Fast, etc. I've done them all and none of them work with regard to cravings and overeating. If you typically want oatmeal, muffins, and fruit for breakfast...a plate of nachos and a coke for lunch...a big bowl of pasta for dinner...chocolate cake as a dessert...and candy bars and chips for your snacks, then consider yourself a fantastic candidate for carbohydrate addiction and also someone who is in luck...this diet will work for you!
Rating: Summary: This Diet is EASY! and it really works! Review: Carbohydrates make you release insulin, and insulin makes you store fat. Reduce the carbs and presto! You also will never be hungry on this diet. Not a fad diet but a truly wonderful and scientific approach.
Rating: Summary: Finally Something that is easy and works! Review: This book will change how you view conventional dieting. you will eat pleanty, never hungry, feel great,and lose fat faster than on any other diet. i have been using his principles for over a year and lost 42 pounds of fat (33 in the first month) while adding 17 pounds of muscle (thru weight training). If you lift weights however u may want to eat sum carbs (complex) before a heavy session and also a high carbohydrate/protein meal after a heavy weight workout, then follow the atkins diet the rest of the time.
