Rating: Summary: Informative and Intresting Review: I truely enjoyed this book by Dr.Atkins. He explains his healthy theory so very well. It makes complete sence. I feel all sugar should be off the market now, Americans are so dependant on it.I know that I was. I have broken that chain, and I eat very low carbs now, and am steadily losing. I feel wonderful, and am never hungry. I quit smoking too! Thank God for this book! Please, try this new way to live! This I can do forever, it is worth it ! By this summer, I will be looking just fine.
Rating: Summary: It is working for me! Review: The diet really works. In the first six weeks, I have shed 24 pounds. I am 41 years old and have gained and lost weight over and over. Finally, I think this is the diet (really a new eating lifestyle) that will work and keep the weight off. I feel good. And the weight is rolling off. Best of all, I don't feel hungry. It takes a bit of getting used to, if you have been addicted to a high carbohydrate diet (like I was). But after a short period, you don't really miss all the carbs.If you have given up hope, give this diet a try.
Rating: Summary: You just won't belive it! Review: I have tried eating right and exercising for years, but I never really lost all the weight I wanted to. I have been eating "low fat" for about 7 years now and it never seemed to be enough. This book made a lot of sense about why I never really lost weight while supposedly "eating right". Just follow the food selections in the book and you will see the pounds melt away. I have been on it for about 3 weeks and lost 12lbs. I even had 1 day where I went out to dinner and another day I went off it for a family gathering. Right now I am not even working out and the fat just comes right off. One negitive was in the beginning I had a loss of energy and I got a little moody, but that was only the first two days. I could continue this way of eating forever, thank you Dr. Atkins.
Rating: Summary: The Best Book Ever, On Weight Loss. Review: If you want to lose weight, and keep it off forever, just follow the simple plan. I lost 80 Lbs, and have kept it off for the last 7 years. It has improved my life, immeasurably. The only problem with the book is the insane ranting and raving about the 'evil' AMA. The Doc is a little nutty on that subject.
Rating: Summary: We've lost weight...it must work!!!!! Review: My husband and I decided it was time to improve our bodies and our health. We purchased the book and both spent any free time during the holidays reading it from cover to cover. We started on Jan, 2, 1999 as of today, exactly two weeks later my husband has lost 20 lbs.!!! and I have lost 10 lbs.!!!!. The first week was rough and our energy level was very low. Those draw-backs were not mentioned in the book. But we continued. I no longer am thinking about when I can "catch a nap" and our energy levels have come back. I've tried some of the recipes...some good some not good. Overall we have decided to stay on for a few more weeks. Husband now has only another 20 lbs. to lose......I of course who am doing all the shopping, preparing, cooking, etc and have the most to lose.... have about 50 more lbs. to lose. The book has become our Bible and we refer to and read parts over again every day. Try it....you'll like it!!!!
Rating: Summary: Dr. Atkins finally offers an answer! Review: I have heard the voices of the skeptics - and I used to be one of the skeptics. I had been on a very low-fat (10% of daily intake), high complex carbohydrate diet for nearly a decade. I had stopped eating red meat and pork, had stopped eating cheese - I lived on whole grains, beans, vegetables, fruit, and fish. I was the low-fat poster child. I even got moderate exercise. Know what? I certainly lost some weight when I started the low-fat way of life (15 pounds) - then I gained 60 pounds over a period of the next 8 years. And I was supposedly doing everything right! In addition to the weight gain, my blood pressure flew up to 130's/90's, I had no energy, and I began having increasingly frequent (to daily) hypoglycemic episodes. I STARTED Atkins diet AFTER researching his claims when a friend asked me to try it with her. I was a hardened skeptic, and self-rightous about being a low-fat semi-vegetarian. I believed I would gain even more weight on this bizarre fad diet. The interesting thing was, I, a trained researcher, had trouble finding any conclusive study contradicting what Dr. Atkins claimed in his book, yet I found literally a list of medical studies supporting his claims. The bottom line is that I have LOST 35 POUNDS IN 12 WEEKS! I eat all I want (believe me, I have no willpower), and I have lost over half of the weight that low-fat dieting put on me. If it's all water, as the skeptics claim, then I must have been swimming through life. (I also have since met a woman who has lost 123 pounds in one year on this diet. 123 pounds of water? Be serious.) And, remarkably, my blood pressure, in 12 WEEKS, has gone from 130's/90's to 110's/60's, and I have not had even ONE hypoglycemic episode since I started the diet! Look - it may not work for everyone - everyone is different. But, it sure works for me. I WILL NEVER GO BACK. Try it. Believe me, it is worth your effort.

Rating: Summary: Works, but you gain quickly if you stray. Review: I have enjoyed this diet. My continuous cravings have disappeared. I lost 14 pounds in 8 weeks. I did stray during the holidays and gained 8 pounds back. I never gained weight back so quickly eating low-fat. I recommend reading several protein books and developing your own version of the diet. Good reads - Protein Power and The Carbohydrate Addicts diet.
Rating: Summary: Great Book and it works! Review: I read Dr. Atkins book back in Sept. and was a little weary of whether it worked or not. I tried the diet and then the pounds started coming off. In just three months (Sept. - Dec.) I have lost 28 pounds and am feeling great. I have begun an exercise program that fits me. I am never hungry on this diet and have gone from 3 meals and many snacks to only three meals a day. If you are wanting to lose weight this is the diet to do it with. I tried many diets and was always hungry and so the diet went out the window. But not Dr. Atkins diet.

You will find the right book and follow the diet strictly, so you can feel good about yourself. But deep down you fear you will fail again. It happened so many times before. If this describes you, buy this book, read it, carry it with you everywhere you go so you can read again those paragraphs that still sound so unbelievable. Be sure to understand the teachings in it. Make this your new way of life and you will never have to go on a diet again! You will start feeling much, much better in a matter of days. You will soon understand why so many people are passionate about Dr. Atkins' work. After the first two weeks in this way of eating, I found it hard to believe that it was really happening to me. My cravings for sweets were gone. I did not feel hungry even for a moment, and best of all, I was eating food I love and plenty of it. I am writing this review out of gratitude for getting acquainted with this diet and I would like to encourage you to buy this book and decide for yourself if this is the right way of life for you.
