Summary: This book is definately not for everyone!!!
Review: I started the diet 5 days ago.I wanted to lose 10 to 15lbs.I felt ok at first, but on the second or third day I started having "flutters" in my chest and I felt shakey later. I drank a glass of chocolate milk and I felt fine.Although I did lose a couple pounds, it is not worth risking your health. I STRONGLY advise people to consult your doctor before you start this diet!! It is not for everyone.And as for the book,it was a little confusing because first he would say one thing and then you would read more and it would be opposite of what he said.For example: In the book he says to eat no sugar in any manner,shape,or form;but in reality you can't avoid sugar because every salad dreesing has some sugar in it and so does other items.Don't waste your money on the book. I am now off of the diet and I am just going to watch what I eat and exercise.I think that is the best form of a "diet".

Summary: i have been on this diet for 4weeks. Iam not hungry.
Review: I am not hungry but I am losing very little weight. I weigh 282. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have lost 4lbs. in 4 weeks. Is this normal? I love the fact that I can eat items I haven't had in years. I am not gaining weight. But, I had hoped to lose alot of weight in the first couple of weeks.

Summary: IT REALLY WORKS
Review: I have had a weight problem all my life, and have tried every diet there is. I couldn't stick to any diet long enough to even lose 20lbs. But in less than 2 weeks by following this diet strictly ( and enjoying it every minute of the way){except the first two days}I have lost 23 pounds.!!!!! I still have another 40 to go but I will keep on it forever. It has become a whole way of life for me!!! I keep going back to reread it over and over and find more interesting and valuable ideas and tips. If you are serious and ready for a lifestyle change, I would strongly reccomend this book.

Summary: This diet works so well I am buying extra copies for family.
Review: After gaining about 5 pounds per year since graduation from college, (15 years ago)I had to do something. I am involved in competitive athletics and my weight was preventing me from winning raquetball games, and skiing was killing my legs.

I lost 15 pounds on the induction diet, over 14 days, and now, after two months, I am down 30 pounds. My body fat content has dropped from 35% to 31% over the same period of time, so I don't believe the sceptics that think that this diet burns muscle tissue.

I am certain that I will be able to loose another 45 pounds over the course of the year! I mean, how can you go wrong eating as much steak, hamburger, lamb, eggs, cheese, ect.. ? These are my favorite foods! I really do miss eating bread, however.

I admit that in the first two weeks, I ran out of energy in the early afternoon, but that soon stopped and now, I feel like I have even more energy than before.

It is easier to get up in the morning, and it is nice to go to my taylor and have him take up the slack in my business suits.

Summary: I've lost and kept off 50 lbs.
Review: I started the Dr. Atkins diet in June of 1998 and have lost 50lbs. I've waited this long before I wrote a review because I wanted to see how easy it was to keep the weight off and so far it has been easy. Read the book and follow it without cheating for two weeks and you will not only lose weight but you will lose your cravings (addictions) to sugars, breads and other carbohydrates. This book will change your life. Good luck.

Summary: Destroying the low-fat myth!
Review: After years of struggling to lose weight using the low-fat myth and failing, I have finaly found the key to success. This program does allow you to eat luxuriously and to your fill: no deprivation here!

After 24 days, I have lost 23 pounds eating low carb on the Atkin's plan. My advice to you is READ THE BOOK. Don't merely skim through it because you need to fully understand what is happening to your body. You will be amazed at the symptoms of hyperinsulinism (wow! that's me!) and shocked that, if you continue your high carb lifestyle you will surely head down the path toward adult-onset diabetes!

During my first two days of induction, I did experience light-headedness. However, I realized I was having withdrawal symptoms. Afterall, I had been a "junkie" for so long, a carb junkie. Since then I have felt wonderful physically and mentally to the point that my asthma has improved considerably.

When you are on OWL, try the low carb recipes to give yourself variety and treats....his low-carb vanilla ice cream, the italian sponge cake, low carb cheesecake recipes....and this is dieting!?!? It certainly is....good luck and bon appetite!

Review: knowledge is power! For years and years, I thought that my overweight condition was the result of lack of willpower...until about three years ago when i became a strict vegan hardcore exerciser...I actually gained 15 pounds as a vegan(almost all carbs)...I began this program at the end of January and have lost ten pounds...More importantly, though, my clothes are getting bigger and bigger...everyone in my life is starting to notice...I am most thankful, though, that I no longer have to beat up on myself..my body was just getting the wrong kinds of food...

Summary: I wish I would have known about this a long time ago
Review: A friend of mine recommended Sugarbusters to me. I bought it. I half-heartedly tried to follow it with some results but had difficulty understanding all this glycemic index stuff and I am a health care professional. After gaining an additional 19 pounds when I quit smoking, I realized something had to be done. I bought Dr. Atkins' book. This is much easier--if you can read a label, you can count the carbs. Easy. I seriously began the diet on January 3, 1999 and to date I have lost 27 pounds. I plan to be down to a close to ideal weight by summer. By the way, the people who work in the cafeteria at the hospital I work at kept saying--what are you trying to do, eating bacon, sausage and eggs for breakfast every morning, kill yourself? I recently had a check-up, cholesterol 167!! Blood pressure 100/70. You know I had to go brag to them and now they want to know all about this diet I'm on. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who is serious about making a change in their lives. It is working for me.

Summary: This is why some give 1 or 2 stars...
Review: Some people here are giving one or two stars saying this diet causes them to have no or little energy. Some say they feel lightheaded and so on. You have to realize, as Dr. Atkins says in the book, that not everybody can loose on a diet like this one. Not everyone's metabolism is compatible. But if you are, and there's a 90% chance you are, then this diet works wonders. I've been on it only 5 days so far and have lost 5 pounds! A pound a day. This rapid weight loss is only during the first 14 days, during the "Inducton Diet." After this you can adjust your level of carbs to suit your metabolism and the weight loss drops to about 3-4 pounds weekly. That is still better than low-fat diets at about 2 pounds a week. I highly recommend it!!
