Summary: Its All About Being Content!
Review: I can not say that I am not addicted to Mr. Lucado's books because I am very addicted. The reason is simple- he always has a angle that we aren't leaning toward although we should eb doing so. In this book, it all about glorifying God and realizing that He want s us to live a happy stress-free life. But we must be content. It is only then, can He shine through us and multiply His Kingdom. Just this week, I was invited to go shopping with a friend and realized that she was so miserable because she was focusing on the rainy weather, the $500 suit she yearned for, and the mortgage payment. I handed her my book from my "mission" box in the back of my car. She called me tonight and said that Mr. Lucado "rocks!" She sounded much happier! Thanks, Mr. Lucado for helping The Lord to keep us on track and "rockin for Christ!"

Summary: From the Inside Flap
Review: "What would change if we finally found our place--and lived it?

For our entire lives we've been urged to look out for number one. To find our place in the sun and soak it for all its worth. To make a name for ourselves as if we are the headliners in the life's drama.

But what happens when the sweet life we imagined proves to be sour? When our expensive toys break and our work is no longer needed and our bodies grow soft?

What's next when all our efforts to take care of number one leave us feeling unsatisfied and the thrills we were promised turn up empty?

Best-selling author Max Lucado turns the greatest lie we've believed on its head--the one that says, "It's all about me"--and sets our sights on a different goal. "We were not made to live this way," Max insists.

What would happen if we all took our place and played our parts? If we started living like "Son" reflectors than individual stars and suns? If every person's priority became a divine pursuit, not a performance?

We'd see our families differently. We'd view our jobs differently. We'd treat our bodies differently. We'd respond to our problems differently. We'd find our place in the universe...finally. And we would be changed.

"The God-centered life works. And it rescues us from a life that doesn't," Max assures us. Here is your lifeline to a life of purpose. Grab hold and let the rescue begin!"

In addition to or perhaps instead of, I strongly recommend that you read C.J. Mahaney's book, The Cross-Centered Life (ISBN: 1590520459) and John Piper's book, The Dangerous Duty of Delight (ISBN: 1576738833).

Summary: Great Book/Rip Off Audio CD
Review: Beware before you buy the audio CD of this book. The Chapters are NOT broken down to listen too individually. My wife and I bought this so we could listen to a chapter each morning on our way to work. You have to listen to the entire CD and our player does not have a fast forward. For the price we paid, you would think they would have broken the CD's into chapters. Very disappointing!!!

Summary: A Year Down Yonder
Review: Have you ever moved to an unusual place, where you can't find and friends and you live with your grandma? Well in the book a Year Down Yonder, by Richard Peck a girl named Mary Alice moves to a brand new place called, Chicago. Why does she have to move to Chicago? Well its because the depression hit her home town really hard so her mom sends her to Chicago but when she gets there the depression is even worse!

Throughout this book a Year Down Yonder, Mary Alice goes through tough times getting friends and getting good grades in school. These are her two starting goals in Chicago and she wants to fulfill them, so after a long period of time Mary Alice picks up some new friends from school and starts getting better grades in her class.

This book reminds me of another book called Hatchet, by Gary Paulsen because; the kid named Brian takes a new adventure in a place where he is going to be stuck for a long time and has to start from scratch.

Overall in this book a Year Down Yonder, the author takes the reader on a voyage through his Gold winning, Newbery Honor award book. From the start of a girls teenage life all the way up to when she gets married when she grows up. Even though it took a long period of time Mary Alice sticks through a tough time of making friends and experiencing the new place of Chicago.

Summary: A disappointed Lucado fan
Review: I am a big Max Lucado fan. I have read most of his books and I have found them very encouraging and challenging. But I have to say that this latest book is very disappointing. From the start, the hardback version is printed in huge letters, like a children's book. A poor effort! The written material was also poor. What a wonderful subject to write about. There was the chance for Lucado to reach down into this topic of our lives revolving around God and teach us so much. The whole Bible is about this theme!! I am sorry Max but you let us all down with this book. It appears a book written when you had some spare time rather than something written with passion and conviction. On this topic I would turn to Oswald Chambers, DL Moody or JI Packer.

Summary: Easy read... weighty material
Review: I bought this book while out of town on a business trip and began reading it over dinner. By the time I went to bed that night in the hotel room, I had finished the entire thing. I usually am not a fast reader, but Lucado writes so poetically and conversationally that you can't help but keep turning the pages. I've read many books on this topic, some more "scholarly" than this one. But "It's Not About Me" hangs with the best of them. Don't let the big print or the easily read conversational tone fool you. This is a serious book about a weighty matter, and Lucado has done a wonderful job of covering the topic biblically.

I would like to also comment one of the other reviewer's statements. The reviewer named Peniel G.G.G. has made a mockery of this entire system by using the review space to promote his own heretical work. Read his other reviews, and you will see they all say the same thing... "Jesus told me he likes this book. Now go buy my book too." I can guarantee you Jesus doesn't like some of the books he's positively reviewed. I don't know what voice this man is hearing, but if you really want to hear Jesus' voice, read the Bible!!!

Summary: It's Not About Me
Review: I cannot think of another book which is more needed today in this world of self-centered materialism and instant gratification, which everyone of us is susceptible. There is no one like Max Lacado to get to the heart of a spiritual/psychological/emotional issue. Not only does Rev Lacado have a way with words, he expresses our innermost feelings and is able to help us put our finger on those nebulous feelings we could not quite pin down, much less admit to. He points out that we all struggle with insecurity and the self-life, but that there is a solution in The One who gave His All for us. I have personally experienced that "There is power in the name of Jesus". This is a book that can be reread every now and then, as we all need to get our perspective and our priorities back in order from time to time.

Summary: putting God first
Review: I have a problem with one of my sons. He's a very charming young man who makes friends easily. Unfortunately, he also has trouble keeping them. His thoughts and actions tend to center around his own needs and desires, and friends don't put up with such a one-sided relationship for very long.

My wife and I explain to him that his life will be much richer and rewarding when he shifts the focus away from himself and onto others. Max Lucado takes this idea one step further and asks, how much richer and rewarding will our lives be when we shift the focus from our personal agenda to God's agenda?

As usual, Lucado has assembled an excellent balance of meaty scriptural passages, stories both Biblical and contemporary, and some of the best analogies imaginable to illustrate this point. His style is so friendly and conversational, with bits of brilliant humor thrown in, that the message is easy to learn and a pleasure to apply.

By shifting the focus away from personal desires, our son stands to earn and keep many more rewarding relationships. Through shifting our focus from a self-centered life to living a God-centered life, we give honor to Him and open ourselves up to the ultimate reward, hearing Him say, "Well done, good and faithful servant."

Read this book, reflect on its message and the many scriptural passages within it, work through the study guide at the end of the book, and you will be well equipped to start living a more God-centered life...

Summary: good subject
Review: I have never been a huge Max Lucado fan, mainly because I think much of his material is shallow, at least for me. I am most impressed by the subject of this book than anything else. I am overjoyed that a popular Christian author has written about God's God-centeredness. It's a message the church needs to hear. Perhaps this will lead more people to read more indepth books, such as Knowing God by JI Packer, The Pleasures of God by John Piper, and, maybe, the "End for Which God Created the World" by Jonathan Edwards.

I think this is a great book for today's church, it is a message she needs to hear.
