Rating: Summary: Much adventure, not much depth Review: I've read the entire Left Behind series, more out of habit than anything else. While I disagree with the theology, I enjoy following the adventures of the Trib Force. However, that said, the dialogue in the series is really quite poor. I know that Jenkins (the primary script writer) wasn't intending to pen Moby Dick, but the dialogue, narrative, and plot could be much better. That's why I enjoy this series, but cannot appreciate it. If a reader of this series has an open mind and a light heart, I highly recommend reading a parody of this series by Nathan Wilson, "Right Behind."
Rating: Summary: Trib Force Dwindling? Review: I see reviews that talk about how poor the writing style is. Well, I for one am glad that it isn't written above everyone's heads and would probably be more of a turnoff if the series was.To the book at hand. Desecration was much better than the past two or three in the series. Me, being a techno-thiller and military fiction fan, enjoyed some of the underground workings of the Trib Force. In this 9th installment, the title alone tells you that the antichrist will defile the Holy Temple in Jerusalem. Meanwhile, Chaim is supposed to be the modern day Moses to lead the Jews to Petra, and Buck is there to help him out of his timidness. The archangel, Michael, makes a couple of appearances. A couple of bowl judgments are poured out on the unbeliever, those with the mark. Boils all over the body, and the seas turning to blood. Lots of tense moments throughout the book and especially toward the end. And as my title of the review says, you cannot expect everyone in or helping the Trib Force, survive the entire 7 years? Glad at least LaHaye and Jenkins add some of this realism to the books. With the bowl judgments going on, and Carpathia desecrating the Temple, more and more of those unmarked and even the ones that are, are raising voices against Nicolae!! You will see God at work in the novel as well. And of course, there is the ending that leaves you wishing the next book were out already.
Rating: Summary: Read the Main Book - God's Word Review: For those who think that the book is full of preachy mumbo jumbo, for your own sake, pray to God to reveal Himself to you as you read His Word, the Bible.
Rating: Summary: Thrilling story, but writing leaves much to be desired Review: I've been hooked on the Left Behind series since the first novel in the series was published because the story is great and I believe the basic events are theologically close to what may actually occur in the future. However, every time a new book in the series is released, I'm always faced with the dilemma of really wanting to find out what happens next mixed with the feeling that I'm wasting money on a poorly written book. The characters are never really developed, and events lack the description to make them come alive. Sadly, this seems to be true of much of Christian fiction, published mainly because it's Christian and not because it's good. I believe I may try the Christ Clone Trilogy that many reviewers here have mentioned.
Rating: Summary: Romanian Anti-Christ? Review: i haven't read the series yet and probably won't given that i now know that the anti-christ happens to be romanian. i too am romanian, born in the carpathian mountains and my middle name is nicolae. i'm sure the authors didn't mean that the actual anti-christ, when he does make himself known will be from romania, but just want all the readers out there to know that there are some good nicolaes born in the carpathian mountains in romania. that's all i have to say about that. enjoy reading the books though.
Rating: Summary: check your library first Review: I'd check them out from the library first to see if you like them. There are some nice things about this series, and I've mostly enjoyed them. However, I do agree that the series is dragging somewhat. (For the people who want to know what will happen..... read Revelation...) There's enough happening in this particular one, however, to keep things interesting. I'm not sure I'd want to own the books myself. I've been reading them from the library, and that's just fine. They seem somewhat preachy to me, even though I am a Christian. I put up with it because I see part of their reason for wanting to write these books is to witness to non-Christians, but it seems as if they're just trying to sell more books now. They could use less of the sci-fi elements, even though I like sci-fi myself. The computers are given far too much importance. Actually, listening to them on tape or CD is great. I found that more fun than reading the book, because some of the drama comes through better. Frank Muller is great, though I understand he's now seriously injured, so I don't know who's going to read the other books. I hope they get someone good, or that Mr. Muller recovers soon.
Rating: Summary: Trudging Through the mire Review: I found this one a little boring, after trudging through the 9th book now...I feel they could have ended this already...I mean, I care for a few characters now..but not enough to buy this book for myself...I bought it for my wife...lets hope they end it soon.....
Rating: Summary: Excellent Left Behind #9 Review: This is the 9th book in the Left Behind series. I was going to put a review earlier but I forgot. This is Left Behind #9. The Antichrist, Nicolae Carpathia take complete control of the whole world. It is a time where Christians are executed for refusing to take the mark of the beast. Nicolae enters the newly rebuild Jewish Temple and declares himself to be God. Now all of the Jews flee to Petra to escape the wrath of the Antichrist. This book in the final chapters leads to the most exciting 'cliffhanger' for a book series. This book was listed in Publishers Weekly as the bestselling book for the year 2001...
Rating: Summary: Enjoyable Reading Review: This book as well as the rest of the series has been for me very enlightening. I've enjoyed all the books and sure, at times I've found them rather slow at first but they are well worth reading. I also feel that they are a great wittnessing tool. As for the NUT who wrote in a prior review of this series that GOD was a Baptist GOD, shame on you and may GOD have mercy on YOUR soul! I am a Baptist and never have I heard such a remark. The GOD that I worship does not dicriminate. My husband is Catholic and we share many things in common within our religions. The most important being that we both believe in Jesus Christ and what He sacrificed for us so that we might have eternal life. I have a piece of advice for you and that is what religion you are or what religion you claim to be is not going to matter to God in the least if you get to heaven. Religion is something we small minded, self-satisfying humans created and it will not get us into heaven.
Rating: Summary: Not a great series, but good Review: I've just finished book nine from the series, Desecration and find myself agreeing with many other reviewers. This is a good series, but not great. The characters never really come alive and the plot definitly seems to begin slowing down in order to strech it out to cover more books. Still, these novels are simple, easy reads and go into some pretty good depth when it comes to the particulars of Revelations. I could see this series as being very good for teen-agers, although as an adult, they aren't as challenging as they could be. If you're looking for greatness, I agree with many others that We All Fall Down by Caldwell and The Christ Clone Trilogy by BeauSeigneur are still the best of the genre- intellegent, well written, and very powerful.
