Summary: First and last of this series that I'll read
Review: After all the hype about this series I finally relented to read the latest installment. What a mistake! I went in with low expectations but was still disappointed. I at least expected some high action end-of-the-world biblical stuff, but what was there was just silly paper-thin interpretations of prophecy which displayed absolutely no imagination. What I did find was endless talk about uninteresting characters and the plan of salvation. The Antichrist in this series is a buffoon! For good apocalyptic fiction I recommend Stephen King's THE STAND or James BeauSeigneur's CHRIST CLONE TRILOGY.

Summary: The problem is...
Review: I started reading the Left Behind series because it was supposed to be about the end times and show how prophecy might play out. The problem is that Jerry Jenkins has filled the books with so much extraneous story that has nothing to do with the end times that the books read more like a soap opera than an end times series. I agree with those who have found the Christ Clone Trilogy by James BeauSeigneur to be a much more satisfying end times series.

Summary: The Most Exciting Books I've Ever Read!!!!
Review: I loved this book!!!!! It was so exciting and full of suspense. I think one of the things that makes it so interesting is that this is exactly what it will be like for those who are left behind. I am so anxious for the next one to come out. Reading these books will definately make you realize the gift that the Lord has given us, and appreciate it. I pray that it will help save some of those who do not have Jesus in their lives.

Summary: Felt More Like Filler Than Thriller
Review: I began reading this series reluctantly, but was hooked on the first few books. This release, number 9 in the series, left a lot to be desired. The characters seem to be more flat in their development, and I got the impression that the authors were running out of ideas. Many have called the authors the religious Tom Clancy's. I felt that if that was the case, this whole story could have been wrapped up into 3 or maybe 4 books in all.
A couple of plot twists kept me reading, but I felt like I was reading it less out of enjoyment and more out of obligation to get through the series. What started out with a lot of excitement and sleepless nights reading all I could has given way to more of "are we there yet?" I hope the next book, which is supposed to be the finale is better executed than this edition.

Summary: Desperation
Review: Okay, I really enjoyed the first two books, liked the next couple, but now it's just gotten tedious. This book crawls along at a pace that is nearly unbearable. The only thing that kept me reading is the "friendship" I've "developed" with the characters. The series as a whole has been entertaining and thought-provoking, though.

Summary: Awesome Stuff
Review: I read this book the day I got it (the release date). Now I am Mad because I have to wait until the summer, for the next one. One wonders if Lahaye and Jenkins plan on getting raptured before the final book comes out so they don't have to try to describe the Glorious Appearing!! Who knows? Oh well, another great edition to a great series.

Summary: the last book
Review: This will be the last book in this series I will read. The writing is bland. I agree with the one reviewer that these books are becoming painful to read. The character development is minimal and the plots are simplistic and boring.

I think the authors are doing a discredit to a great idea by dragging it out way too long. The authors cover in an entire book what a good writer could accomplish in a couple of chapters. It is not like the characters/plot are compelling enough to keep the reader engaged.

I will be looking into other apocalyptic fiction and abandoning these books.

Summary: Barely Best of the Series
Review: The first book in the series was a little slow because I felt they spent too much time developing each character. Later on I came to appreciate the knowledge we had been given because it made me feel I had known the characters for a long time, and like good friends I could predict some of the feelings and actions, and wanted to encourage or warn them by turns.

This was the best of the series, and I look forward to the next 3, if that is all there is to be; and hope for more.

The events of 9/ll make them even more meaningful and current: as I look for world leaders and statesmen in the character, and feel more wonder at the prophets predictions as we see them unfold in the present.

Summary: Entertaining and informational...but getting more shallow
Review: As a Christian who has experienced many of the same thoughts and doubts as many of the characters in Left Behind, I enjoy this series. Left Behind literally kept me awake for a few nights (both reading it, and thinking about it). And, no doubt that reading about the scripture in a relatively fast-paced fictional story is a good way to get a visual picture of the Biblical events and prophecies. I think reading these books, then going back and reviewing actual scripture, is a very good way to learn and understand. I will definitely keep reading this series. However, if I may step away from the spiritual realm, the books can in no way be deemed quality works of fiction. I realize the intent is to make the books readable for everyone from teens to older adults, but I think with this many books in the series, you just can't do that and maintain the quality. The story of End Times in the Bible takes up, relatively speaking, a few pages, and there is of course much more to the story to get the context. But, the authors have stretched it out to the point to where it is just an outline of scripture with a lot of really bad Indiana Jones action in the middle. I really believe this series would have been much, much better in terms of quality if done in half the number of books. I will not guess the intent or goals of the authors, and they will have their place in Christian book history, but I think the door is open for a more quality series.

Summary: Disappointing
Review: It seems that either this book was either rushed or the authors just need to fill in the spaces. After reading all of the others and telling my friends about it I find my self embarrassed that I did so. Even the ending seemed like a weak attempt at (...) me back in for the sequel. I won't belive that the main reason this edition was written was for the money.
