Rating: Summary: Desecration: Antichrist Takes the Throne Review: Lahaye & Jenkins tried to put 24-48 hrs. in one book again and had to add more, what I like to refer as filler, to give the book its required length and time frame. A couple parts (and although I nor they could determine exactly what would have been needed) the reaction of the masses after certain events just don't ring true with what we understand about the human race. More (and less) was needed to have this particular come off as plausible or even believable. I believe the guys did what they thought was best but, in this case, it didn't quite work out as they probably planned. I have noticed that this problem has occurred before in their series when they have tried to put too much information in such a little time space. The remainder of the books is going to be very interesting in how it is done. They have put just over 3.5 years in 9 books. The schedule shows they will be finished in 3 more books meaning they are going to have to reverse themselves and put 3.5 yrs worth of the Bible and finish up the story in 3 books (non-stop action or a very quiet time in the Lord's Book.) I wish them luck. Le Guepe (Dan Newell)
Rating: Summary: Predictable and boring Review: This is the most boring book of the series yet. All the characters say things they've already said in earlier books and do things they've already done. In addition, the authors seem to be getting more 'denominational' i.e. they are writing the characters in a more Pentecostal vein... 'words of the Lord' and such. This will most likely be the last book of this series that I purchase.
Rating: Summary: another excellent addition!!! Review: Desecration was another wonderful addition to the Left Behind series!!!! Eventhough I can hardly believe it, but was an even faster read than all the others. I really enjoyed it...up to the last page, of course, because it will kill me for the next 10 months wondering what's gonna happen next!! Jenkins and LaHaye are truly amazing---in writing -- and in helping bring people to Christ through these books.
Rating: Summary: This Deserves a Black Hole Rating Review: I'm very disappointed that Amazon does not offer a black hole rating just south of the 1 star rating. I could not finish Desecration, finding it exceedingly less interesting than reading a telephone book or getting hit by a car. I would rather have an angry dentist give me a root canal without anesthetic than finish reading Desecration. If this is the highpoint of what Christians are currently capable of in terms of art then I'm afraid we deserve another round or two of the Spanish Inquisition, followed up by the ten plagues of Egypt.
Rating: Summary: It's like they're not even trying anymore Review: I have read every book in the series, and this, by far, was the worst of the bunch (I sensed it was going downhill with the previous book.) The authors seem to have forgotten how to tell a story, let alone make it interesting (Ghost Writers anyone?). The grammar and style are targeted for a very young audience, and because of this, the book belongs in the Young Adult section of your local bookstore. The plot is interesting for a few pages here and there, but overall, there are probably ten worthwhile pages. The filler between plot points comes across as if it was written between tee times at the local golf course. I rarely read a book I don't like, but I felt compelled to write about my experience. The book deserves less than two stars, but since the overall series is rewarding and interesting (and I will see it through the end,) I gave it a higher score...
Rating: Summary: Dribble Review: This is pure profit-motive writing. They should be ashamed of themselves. First off, they could save a few trees if only they would go to regular margins and spacings. Seriously, there is not 200 pages of text here. Why should there be? It only covers 4 days. When they said they would write about the rapture, I had no idea they were going to cover it minute by minute. It is so dishpan dull, I am actually forcing myself to read it. I am actually rooting against the characters because it is so sloow. The Christ Clone Trilogy is markedly superior. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. DON'T ENCOURAGE THEM.
Rating: Summary: A transition book for the series Review: Although there is the usual amount of action in the ninth book of the Left Behind Series, it seems as if a very short time period is covered and the plot is not moved along very far. Hopefully future books will pick up the pace a bit. Certainly the next book in the series has been set up with the action in this one. Carpathia has become more demanding and demented and after desecrating the temple, he demands that all believers take the mark of the beast. That makes life a bit more difficult for the Christians who have evaded his annihilations so far. The believers are gathered and transported to Petra, where they are promised safety by the Tribulation Force. There are more martyrs in this book, and the climatic scene sets up a confrontation between the believers and the Global Community. This book is ok, but hopefully the next one will be better.
Rating: Summary: Trials & Tribulations of reading DESECRATION Review: I received DESECRATION as a Xmas gift from a friend, so I felt obligated to finish it. This book desperately needed an editor who was not afraid to wield his blue pencil on the manuscript. Succinctly, the writing is atrocious. Plot and pacing are nonexistent. The characters are flat and forgettable, the dialog even flatter. If your time is as precious to you as mine is to me, spend it reading something else.
Rating: Summary: The Best of the Series Review: Desecration is without a doubt the best book of the series. I was disappointed by The Mark -- The Mark's meandering plot was a definite letdown compared to the suspense of Apollyon, Assassins, and Indwelling. Desecration more than makes up for this. Before I read this, I considered Indwelling to be the highwater mark of Christian fiction. Creating a meaningful religious novel spanning only three days was a monumentous achievement. Desecration tops even that. I can't think of any book in the series, even the first, which includes as many memorably moments as Desecration. The moral of the story: Read Desecration
Rating: Summary: series going down hill fast Review: This book shows that the love of money exceeds the desire to publish a quality book. The series takes a definite nose dive as this book preaches more than it acts. It is about time for this series to end. The authors continue to try to stretch the series out now quite openly showing that the time frame create in the first book no longer is relevant. Pregnancy takes a few short months, a few books back. Baby grows to talking in less than a month. It is worse in this book.
