Rating: Summary: Hook Line and Sinker! Review: I started reading Tom Clancy on the recommendation of my sister. This was the first book, after two movies, that I read. This is an absolute page turner, action, suspense and drama. Anyone who reads this book will love John Clark. He is an animal, with the smooth suave character of author Jack Higgins character Sean Dillon, and passion of character Liam Devlin. This is a story of revenge, of a character and justice, at any cost! This book tops my all time favorite list by 10 fold, try it and you'll read every book Clancy puts out, as I have. Good luck sleeping once you've bought this one!
Rating: Summary: Clancy's best written character. Review: A few years ago I got into a kick where I read all of the Clancy books. I soon discoverd that Clancy does not write literary masterpeices. He writes enthralling fiction. While this book is not as good as Red Storm Rising, this book, while extremely entertaining, excells because the Clark character seems alive and real. His depth is unmatched, I think, by any other character in Clancys' books. This is a character I want to meet. As to the gentleman from Liverpool, I understand your concern for the depiction of the left wing during the Vietnam War era. However, I must remind you that Clancy makes it perfectly clear that he stands to the right. While I hardly agree with all that entails, I keep that in mind when reading his books. Do not let that deter you from a good book.
Rating: Summary: excellent read with a lot of suspense Review: it`s pretty funny what people can get out of a book...like some persons from liverpool..give me a break...this book is an excellent read and i highly recommend it...i read it when i was 13
Rating: Summary: TOM CLANCY'S BEST BOOK!!! Review: I think that it is important to remember that the Vietnam war involved many innocent people on both sides. There were many American soldiers who were ordered to this country and never came home. I wouldn't say that I am a supporter of the Vietnam war in any way -- or am I naive enough to say that all American soldiers were innocent of the things they are accused of -- but they deserve the same respect that any one in any military unit should have. In Executive Orders, Ryan comments on the fact that the soldiers were led into the battle by one man and they knew only to follow. I'm not saying either that following blind is a good thing -- but sometimes it does have merit. I love Tom Clancy books, and John Clark is without doubt my favorite character!!!!
Rating: Summary: Comic book - totally one sided - an insult. Review: I enjoyed Tom Clancy's earlier books, but I found Without Remorse to be a joke. A sick joke that made me angry. This is my reason. The Vietnam story highlights Vietcong atrocities, but there is not even a suggestion of what American forces routinely did to civilians. Not even a suggestion. I also noticed the Ameican anti-war faction conveniently double up as drugs racketeers/ traitors for a speedy execution. Interesting. Look, I'm not interested in Americans' problems with accepting the fact you were defeated in Vietman. Books like Without Remorse make me wonder how far some Americans desparately need to rewrite history to pretend they never really lost. Especially since the Clancy series is massively popular in the USA To me this book is a one sided travisty of the truth. Sure, a thriller is a thriller, you read it for a little escapism. BUT I do not want to read some biased political diatribe, whether from an American,British, Communist, you name it point of view. In view of the civilians murdered by American servicemen, or killed because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time, I think this one sided novel is an utter insult to humanity. The Vietnam War not ancient history. Survivors are still alive, genetic defects induced by bacteriological warfare are still present. Put it this way, I feel about Without Remorse the same way I would feel about a German novel set in 1939-1945 which somehow forgets to mention all those cattle trucks, a British novel set in South Africa in 1900 without concentration camps or a Russian novel, with whoops, no mention of the Gulags. The American helicopter crewmen who risked their necks saving a handful of civilians from My Lai were decorated a few years ago. Their citation was on the lines of "saving civilians from being murdered by American forces". Takes courage to admit that in public, not many countries would. Unless hiding behind a conveniently large "Old Glory" and screaming out "Yo Marine" is your answer to all life's awkward political problems. PS For the record, I've also filed news stories on the USSR's little bloodbath in Afghanistan; another superpower fighting a bloody little war against irregulars and coming off second best. I can guess the response and await it with interest.
Rating: Summary: Right on, Rammstein AFB. Review: Reader from OK reads half of a book and then reveiws it! Should remember the adage "Don't go into a battle of wits half-armed!" Remember, OK reader, this is a work of fiction--doesn't have to be totally "realistic". Also, remember that there are people like Kelly out there, and there are many people who have thoughts like those portrayed in the book-so that's realistic. Also, Clancy doesn't come out and say it's ok to act on such thoughts; he has Kelly constantly questioning his motives and actions, and he never tells himself that what he is doing is "right." But there is no doubt that what Kelly does results in "justice" for the scumbags portrayed in the book. Maybe OK reader is right after all, since in real life the dirtbags often don't get what they deserve.
Rating: Summary: Good Book. Review: Hey now.. how can you review a story when you only know half of it? That is pretty hairbraned. If you don't know what you are talking about, then you better not open your mouth and talk. After all, it is better to sit there and look stupid, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.
Rating: Summary: Very Entertaining! ! ! Review: After reading this one, I think that John Kelly/Clark is my favorite character in the Clancy novels. This novel was more of a character study as opposed to political intrigue. I hope that they make a movie out of this one soon.
Rating: Summary: A great read Review: This book is a great read, period. All of it is possible, sure, there are some really grey areas. All in all though, I do recommed this book. It was actualy the frst Clancy book that I ever read. WR is probably my favorite too, 'though Red Storm Rising gets close. John Kelly/Clark is some to be admired in this book, even if her doesn't really exist is the real world. Great book.
