Rating: Summary: A SPORTS JUNKIE FALLS IN LOVE WITH THIS MASTERPIECE Review: Don't ask me why I read this book because I have no answers. Perhaps being in my mid 40's led me so undiscover some of my deepest feelings. After reading The Five People You Meet In Heaven, I stumbled onto the literary works of Richard Paul Evans. Let me cut the chase. I read this book in one day. I can't explain why I couldn't put it down. Mr. Evans does an outstanding job of character development. Most fiction books one tends to get lost in too many characters, A Perfect Day is very easy to read. The book is about his writing of A Perfect Day. Superb execution of the thought process and quite easy to relate to if one is put in that position. I'll admit the ending is somewhat disappointing. Quite frankly, I thought Mr. Evans could have expanded on it a bit more. But this book still deserves an unprecedented 5 Stars because its story fulfilled me in every sense. A Perfect Day is a love story, a mystery, imaginative and passion all confined into 288 pages. A Perfect Day is reading A Perfect Day.
Rating: Summary: The greatest book I've ever read! Review: Hi there!
I have to say, that I haven't heard from the author Richard Paul Evans before. At my favourite bookstore I saw one of his books "A perfect Day" and I bought it. I didn't know what would happen to me as I read it!
It's one of my first books in the english language and I'm very surprised! I have to say, that's one of the best books I've read before!
It's very emotional and written in a great stile. You'll think about it. You'll be glad with the characters and also sad. Richard Paul Evans is one of the best authors in the american bookword and I'm very glad about reading this book!!!
Rating: Summary: Simply Amazing, An inspiration Review: I am a person that doesn't like to read very much in school. One day I looked around in my local bookstore and found a book that I thought would be interesting. We are required to rad at least 250 pages of a book and then summarize it, any extra pages is extra credit. So I read all 280 pages of this book and I must say that it made me actually like reading. I felt like this was a book that I could understand so well and relate to in a way. I enjoyed this book so much that for my next book I began The last Promise but I never finished it because it was due and I maxed my time of renewing it. I loved the suspense that this book got me, suspense in a romantic way, that even after not finishing the book, I want to pick it up again. This book is now on my wishlist. This author inspired me to try and like reading. And now, I do
Rating: Summary: Not worth your time or money! Review: I am writing to warn others about the total predictibility and cheesiness of this book. I read it for a book club and was totally disappointed. I hardly got to know the characters and I never really cared about what happened to them. I refuse to read any more of this author's books - I wish I could get a refund for the time and money I wasted on this one!
Rating: Summary: Not his best Review: I have been a big fan of Richard Paul Evans. I enjoyed all his books but this one. I don't feel as if I got to know the characters well enough to find them likeable or even care what happened to them. The story is about a man who is at a job he does not really like and then is laid off and he decides to finaly finish a book he had been working on. Because of the success of the book he suddenly has no time for his wife and daughter and leaves them only to be told by an "angel" that his life will end at the new year. Now he realizes how lucky he was and goes about trying to win back his wife even though he knows he cannot change his fate. I really really did not like the main character. I was not given enough information about his childhood or past to understand why he was so insecure. This story felt like it was slapped together in a very clumsy half hearted way. I almost didn't finish it but being a fan of The Locket and The Christmas box I was hoping for something to make this book. Nothing did.
Rating: Summary: A delight to read - but grab the tissues! Review: I read A Perfect Day, in one afternoon - and cried about 5 times throughout the novel. Some people have indicated in their reviews that this novel is too soppy - and too happy, but I tend to disagree. Every now and then every one of us needs something to make us remember what we have and how easy it is to lose everything that is important to us.
A Perfect Day is a story of an ordinary man's flight to fame, and fight to retain that which is dear to him, having published a New York Times Bestseller. Based on the story of his loving wife's relationship with her dying father, the book (entitled A Perfect Day also) is loved by all who read it. Unfortunately, fame and fortune quickly overwhelm Robert Harlan, forcing him to lose sight of the things that really make him happy. His simple life with soul mate Allyson, and daughter Carson disolve around him - leaving him rich, famous...but alone.
Without giving too much away, Robert meets a stranger who advises him that he has only until New Years Day to live. It is with this knowledge that Robert does what he knows in his heart is right.
A Perfect Day is a novel of forgiveness, family, and the overwhelming power of love. A must read for anyone who enjoyed 'The Five People You Meet in Heaven' .
Rating: Summary: Very cheesy, predictable, mindless read Review: I was very interested to read a book from this author as I have never read anything before and saw a few very good reviews. I was so dissappointed when I actually started reading this book. It is SO predictable, and SO mindless. It is so easy to read and requires so little attention that it is a great book when you don't have the time to actually sit down and concentrate on a good book. I only actually finished it because I just had to see how it ended. Of course, it ended exactly as you think it would. No surprises.
Rating: Summary: Be Careful What You Wish For! Review: Richard Paul Evans in his newest book, A Perfect Day, has written a title which will appeal to his old and new readers alike. Some will also recall Evans's rise to fame with the enormous popularity of his first book, The Christmas Box, which was self published for family and friends. The book was also made into a TV movie starring Richard Thomas and Maureen O'Hara. Evans also recently chronicled the history of The Christmas Box recently in his book called The Christmas Box Miracle which for his previous readers showed a glimpse into a writer's struggle and what appears to be overnight fame. Readers of a Perfect Day, therefore, should not be surprised if they consider that this book may not seem either coincidental or a thinly veiled autobiography when remembering back to Evan's Life.Robert is a young man when he meets and marries the woman of his dreams. early in their married life Robert works at various jobs while his wife Allyson cares for their daughter and home. In his free time Robert pursues his dream by writing what he hopes one day will be a best-selling novel. Success does come finally but at a bitter price when Robert finds himself on endless book tours and sending less and less time at home. Although very lonely, Robert does respond positively to the many new people he meets. The temptation of a beautiful woman and the lure of a movie deal may threaten both his marriage and the very ideals and values he once had. Then Robert meets a man with almost mystical qualities who not only knows all about him but also predicts his imminent death. Who is this man and how will Robert settle his life if in fact he only has a matter of days left to him. Although I did find the ending somewhat predictable, I also felt that the author provided a good journey. I also found the characters enjoyable and wondered how people who do achieve great success aren't blinded by the lights of fame and fortune. While I hoped this book would be as inspirational as the titles from The Christmas Box Trilogy, I did think A Perfect Day was a good read. Despite that a similar theme has filled countless other books notably You Can't Go Home Again and Youngblood Hawke, it did teach me once again valuable lessons about the true meaning of love and success. As I usually do after reading Evans's newest book, I look forward to the next one.
Rating: Summary: Examine the Individual Review: Richard Paul Evans is a high caliber fiction writer. "A PERFECT DAY" is another stellar novel. I first enjoyed "THE CHRISTMAS BOX MIRACLE" and also liked "THE LOOKING GLASS." This new book ranks at the top of his work. Evans keeps true to his unique and descriptive style of writing while making some interesting and unique additions in the story department. One plus is the Hollywood facade backdrop Evans creates which he does with great similarity and equal success to Rikki Lee Travolta's "MY FRACTURED LIFE." The plot devices of a life re-examined are perhaps not original but very originally addressed. Again, it would be easy to compare to Mitch Albom's "THE FIVE PEOPLE YOU MEET IN HEAVEN" or Travolta's "MY FRACTURED LIFE" but I would personally be hesitant to do so. Taking nothing away from any other book(s) ("THE CHRISTMAS BOX MIRACLE", "THE LOOKING GLASS", "THE FIVE PEOPLE YOU MEET IN HEAVEN", and "MY FRACTURED LIFE" are all stellar books), I suggest looking at "A PERFECT DAY" for it's individuality for that is what makes it so great.
Rating: Summary: Can't put it down Review: Richard Paul Evans is an author that either grabs the reader from page one, or turns he/she off completely. I fall into the first category. I was drawn to him from The Christmas Box and found this to be even better.
This simple story of a man who, due to a job loss, takes a risk and goes for his dream, made me stop and take a look at my own life. Was I doing what I felt called to do? Had I sacrificed what I held dear to pursue a dream? Had I caused anyone pain in this endeavor?
While some may dismiss Evans as an idealist whose characters are too wholesome, those who still want to read of moral, thinking people, this is the book for you!
