Summary: A new chapter in Pern Lore...
Review: ...will give fans the fix they've been longing for. McCaffrey and her son delve into the little known lore of watch-whers as the story of Kindan and Nuella unfolds. A wonderful addition to the series!

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Not quite the worst
Review: but definitely fighting the Dolphins of Pern for that title. There is nothing much to be done about it; it might be a nice present for children but it is lacking about everything that made books like "The White Dragon" so special. I guess Pern just ran out of news.

Summary: Thank you Anne and Todd for continuing to 'share the dream'
Review: Anne McCaffrey created an intricate world spanning many centuries featuring the bonding of humans and dragons telepathicly in her PERN series. Now Anne has joined with her second son, Todd, to write this newest episode in the PERN.

Todd has 'grown up in PERN'; so readers can be confident that there is no variation in this newest PERN tale. The tone and complexity of the story is sure to delight McCaffrey fans and encourage thoughts of more adventures on the planet PERN.

Blurb and other editorials give a summary; so what more can I say? Teenaged Kindan, blind Nuella and Master-Harper Zist work together and learn the forgotten secrets of how the nocturnal watch-wher see in the dark and their ability to communicate with dragons. This reveals many new possibilities for the dragon-riders and watch-wher. Another cave-in at Natalon's mine leads to a future that both Kindan and Nuella never expected.

Mama McCaffrey shared her writing talent & inspiration with her son and they chose to continue to give us reader's a fantasy world to remember. Such a legacy is impressive; such skill is appreciated. Thank you Anne and Todd for continuing to 'share the dream' of PERN.

Summary: Don't even bother.
Review: I was disappointed to discover that I can't give zero stars for a review - this book doesn't even deserve one.

I was fond of the Pern books when I was younger, so I read this one because of that remembered fondness, and because I was curious to see how Todd McCaffrey would handle the world of Pern. I'm afraid to say that the answer is, not very well. To be blunt, I found the writing amateurish, the characters shallow and uninteresting, the songs sounding like the efforts of an uninspired junior-high student, and the "science" beyond horrible.

If you like Pern, don't read this book. It'll only disappoint you.

Summary: It's OK so far
Review: Whilie in a bookstore the other night I saw Dragon's Kin and got very excited to see a new Pern book out. I sat down at the bookstore and began to read. The book brought me right in like every Pern novel I've read, but the dissapointing thing was when I stopped reading I checked the page number and I was already 200+ pages into the book, in an hour and a half. Most other Pern books at least take a couple days of reading it. Good book, glad to see another come out, but you may want to wait for the paperback because this one reads at about a third or fourth grade level and finishes way too quickly.

Summary: From one Pern lover to another.
Review: First let me say I have wanted to go and live on Pern since I first read about it in 1978. ANY book about it is welcome. This one was too short and yes, it wasn't perfect. The ending was good, tho : ) I'm looking forward to Todd's solo, DRAGONSBLOOD, for my next Pern experience.

Summary: It's in Good Hands
Review: This book goes to show that Pern now has two wonderful storytellers. The voice of the narrative, with a few exceptions, holds true to the timbre of previous books. And in its few rough spots, the book does no disservice to its predescessors. Well worth reading, and tally-ho on future works from Todd and/or Anne.

Summary: Very disappointing
Review: Disjointed storyline and unpolished writing style. I was extremely disappointed in this novel. Most of the Pern novels draw you in and you lose yourself in the story. This novel refuses to allow you the intimacy that I've enjoyed in previous Pern novels.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: A waste of time
Review: I was EXTREMELY dissapointed by this book. I expected something similar in style to the previous books. Instead I found a book with passages that were blatant copies from previous books, and an attempt to imulate their style. It failed miserably. I realize Todd is trying to make it in tandem with his mother, but their styles are too different, and it turns out to be a miserable mix. The book doesn't keep in sequence of events. There are way too many inconsistencies and disagreements. For anyone who's been following the Dragonriders series, BEWARE!!! You'll probably be as irritated and enraged as I was. I was never more dissapointed with any other book as I was with this one.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: A real disappointment
Review: I have been an avid "Pern" fan ever since publication of the very first book. Granted, not every book in the series has lived up to expectations, but none were total disappointments until now.

Dragon Kin seems written for children, not for an adult audience. Hollow stickfigure characters and unbelievable action. I'm very glad I read a library copy rather than wasting my money.
