Rating: Summary: Simply Brilliant!!!! Review: A classic, Dracula is the first person accounts of a battle against a vampyre. If you have seen the movies, still read it. It is quite different from them, and all to the better. This is my favourite book of all time. I would recommend it to ANYONE who is looking to lose some sleep!
Rating: Summary: A true Classic Review: I suggest this book for classical novel lovers everywhere.
Rating: Summary: Brilliant!!! Review: I have to admit that I only read this book as part of the school English syllabus. At first I was a bit judgemental, but when I actually read the book, it was simply brilliant! The fact that Bram Stoker has written it in diary form makes it more interesting. I thought it was really good.
Rating: Summary: A extremly good vampire book, but not the first: Review: This book I loved because it contained buckets full of vampire lore. Such as they can not be seen in mirrors, can not cross running water, can die if a holy bullet (silver bullet) is shot into their coffin, can not get out of their coffin if a wild rose is placed upon it, ETC. Surprisingly though it was not the first book about vampires. The first was a series of comics called "Varney The Vampire" and was very scary. This though blows way through the competition, paving the way for the next generation of vampire stories. This book has gone down in history and will remain one of the greatest vampire stories of all time.
Rating: Summary: Started it all. Review: Bram Stoker took an obscure regional legend and made it a classic tale of horror world known. He gave the vampire legend to the masses. The style he chose to present the tale, diary and journal entries, letters, somehow draws the reader further into the story. It's as if you are reading facts known to each character and are actually putting the story together yourself. An amazing way of drawing in the reader that has never been fully used since. No other book or any of the movies have captured the feeling you get out of reading the original Bram Stoker tale of Dracula.
Rating: Summary: The original horror tale (and possibly the best). Review: Dracula is genneraly about a vampire. The endless stream of films based upon the novel are cheap immitations from the thirtys. It isn't scary compared to "The Shinning" or "Pet Cemetary." But it is a wonderful piece of literature, and should be freely distributed to all.
Rating: Summary: Intrestingly Scary Review: This book remained a thriller in my heart for many years. Some things are still confusing to me and the articulatness of the book describes the setting throughly however it gets confusing after chapter 5. It is a must read book of the century.
Rating: Summary: First-rate heart pumper Review: Two years ago, my grandmother handed me an old, antique-looking book,"Read this. It's called Dracula...I'm sure you'll love it." I was skeptical, but I did (do) love it! Don't ever watch the movie, because the pictures that Bram Stoker creates in your mind are much more entertaining. Ever since my grandmother gave me Dracula, I have read it 7 times---my heart still pounds at all the right moments and it hasn't lost it's shock value yet!
Rating: Summary: Grandfather of all vampire stories Review: Dracula is the original epic of the vampire genre. There is no comparing today's vampire stories to this tale of elegant culture mixed with bestial ferocity. Stoker gives you the feel of a London undergoing the deep cultural changes of industry and modernization. Perhaps the infamous nosferatu (vampire) is here to announce that the old world won't go away quietly. In summary, none of the movies based on this book do it justice, so you'll just have to lock your doors, light a fire in the fireplace and enjoy.
Rating: Summary: I did not expect this book to be so great!! Review: My book club choose this book for our first meeting. Many members, including myself, were sceptical about reading this book. We were just being wimps. To everyones surprise we all loved this book. I can't explain it but this book is one of the best books I have ever read. The story has so many facets: for one, you experience the axiety felt by the characters while feeling sorry for Dracula at the same time. His is a lonely life but he must take life to live. My book club voted this book our favorite of the year. If you have never read this book you are missing one of the greatest novels of the 19th century and of all time. I wish I could read it again for the first time!!
