Summary: Ann has the Commies coming out of the wood work!
Review: This book, Treason, is a MUST READ for every American! It should be made a part of every High School history class.

The scathing, hateful reviews here, purporting to show "factual" evidence of Ann's mistakes, do not themselves prove true in any way. There is just no end to the deceitful lying liberals will do to try and squash the truth about their disgusting and treasonous behavior!

Summary: Poor Research, Terrible Writing
Review: Coulter should stick to what she knows best - being a Right Wing Shouting Head for FOX. Her research for this tome is at best weak and her writing style grates as badly as her screeching voice.

Miles and miles of endnotes that don't seem to correlate with the text - follow the trail and you wind up totally lost. Coulter is pandering to the lowest level with this one and more power to her for getting them to fork over their money.

Summary: Garbage in, garbage out -
Review: Every flag-draped 'patriot' needs to read the chapter in Franken's book on how these attack dogs assemble and use their 'facts.' It won't change your mind, but at least you'll know the true colors of America's new conservative media and literary heroes.
The only thing anyone might find scary about 'Treason' and reptiles like Coulter is how many people they're actually fooling.
I understand Hannity's book is actually rated softer when perforated and put on a roll.

Summary: Why wasn't I taught the truth?
Review: Ann Coulter has opened my eyes! I only wish I would have read this book before taking U.S. history in college. Great read, shows just how far the liberal elites are willing to go to foster hate and discontent.

Summary: Comedienne
Review: Balanced political analysis has to assume that it is possible that one can be wrong sometimes. But Coulter makes contentions that go like this: some active communists were in the government and associated with the New Deal. The New Deal was a liberal program of the Democratic Party. Therefore, all liberals and Democrats are communist sympathizers and traitors. Always. This is a parlor game for teenagers who want to believe that their team is all good and the opposing team is all bad. If you like to believe you are on the "conservative" team with Ann, then you will find the book entertaining. If not, then you will hate it.

In fact, the labels conservative and liberal are artificial. Recently some people with certain economic interests have discovered that they can attach traditional religious moral positions (that were historically called conservative) to radically anti-conservative economic positions, which is what all this international free trade, free market stuff is. So, many people are fooled into supporting economic policies that entail the elimination of small businesses, small farms and the exportation of millions of American jobs to foreign countries in the name of "conservative" morality. But all of this undercuts traditional religious morality. This is the bandwagon Coulter is riding. For someone who espouses all of these traditional values, she does not seem to have a husband or any children. Rather like the classic liberal career woman that she actually is.

Summary: The Truth Hurts (Liberals)
Review: Liberals can't handle the truth! This is confirmed by the number of scathing liberal rants - I mean reviews - on this site. To these reviewers, I owe my thanks for turning me on to an outstanding book!

Summary: She's just killin' em and they can't take it
Review: Just a wonderful book! Those like myself who actually read history and its nuances appreciate her insistance on being as historically factually accurate as possible. And rest assured this trait will not be found in her legion of detractors. As she averred in her prior book "Slander", they mostly just call names usually after they've just cited some trivial nugget of information which they then conclude collapses her entire argument; the fallacy of inductive logic writ large. Well, then she lets em have it again, with both barrels.

As Ann so accurately points out, the political Left has built all of their arguments re social, political and regulatory policy on a series of false premises. Look at the disasters wrought by our policies on immigration, environmentalism, education, welfare, a doomed-to-fail social security and medicare system, etc. And, look at the ritual smearing of those who seek constructive debate with an eye to bringing about responsible reform. Al Franken, a commune-ist sympathizer who has never taken a course in economics, is merely the latest example of one who champions these socially destructive tactics. Franken needs to read history, IMO "the Black Book of Communism" would be a good place for him to start.

At the outset of the book Ann focuses on bringing some historical accuracy to the derivation of the phrase "McCarthyism", the bludgeon with which the Left has used to shout down any criticism that the Right might have of their socialist policies. All that most remember, who were alive at the time of the McCarthy hearings, is that the press was not friendly to tailgunner Joe, as they called him, and that he was made to appear a vile and disgusting human being. Well, Ann sets the record straight and pretty soon we find out that what really riles the Left is that McCarthy was right, there were hundreds of Communist agents who were taking their orders from Stalin in our government. But, have you noticed how many movies have been made by the leftists who run Hollywood glorifying those who were questioned by the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) versus the number made about how many American lives were lost because their counterparts in government gave away our state secrets to a vicious Communist dictatorship? These movie moguls certainly use plenty of film to depict Hitler as a madman, but how many films have you seen on the evils of Communism and the stories of those killed and of those whose lives were ruined? The "Reds" around the globe killed many times more people than Hitler ever hoped to, but when will we see the equivalent of the Nuremberg Trials for these thugs? Ann Coulter is essentially asking these questions hence the title of her book "Treason" is an apt one. And, we should add that while ALL Democrats are not Communist, all Communists vote Democratic.

Do you ever read about the evils of Communism in the New York Times? On ABC, CBS, CNN, NBC? NPR? Or in the Washington Post, Boston Globe or the L.A. Times? Ever notice how until recently you couldn't get a conservative book published thru the major publishers? Ask yourself "why?" Ann does a good job of getting at these questions in this seminal work.

It's utterly fascinating watching her defend herself and the statements in her book on television talk shows and in her weekly column. She's just got too much intellectual fire-power for the timid men who usually get their way by badgering a man. But, they can't do that the same way with her. She cites chapter and verse about why the democratic party is the party of treason and she makes her case. She's got the facts on her side and the Left can no longer get away with their "the emperors got new clothes" routine. She calls them on it in this book. He doesn't have "any" clothes, he's naked. Their protests are the bleating of the sheep.

In her final chapter, she cites the lack of faith in God of the political Left and particulrly lets the ACLU have it between the eyes. After the latest of their antics re the Boy Scouts, they deserve every bit of it. To give her needed exposure to the general public the Fox network has her on almost nightly with those of the Left who would disabuse her of her notions on the true casting of history, McCarthy and otherwise; and she blows them away.

Read this book. Don't be put off by the naysayers. It's important if we're to get America back going in the right direction again.

Summary: So far...not impressed.
Review: Admittedly I read this in the bookstore and I got through a number of chapters. My issue, in the very begining was the lack of actual quotes from the sources she mentions. So there's lots of lines like "absolute proof [4] of this person being a spy was presented" but unfortunately Ann doesn't think we need to see what consitutues "absolute proof" however she will quote history books for schools that state McCarthy was a liar.

Next, it seems than Anns very thesis is wierd and kind of vague. I mean "Liberals have been wrong about everything and are trators to our country"? Who does "liberals" represent? The liberal politial groups? No. Since there were definitely people who were listed as trators who were not members of a liberal party. People with liberal ideals? If you define that term vaguely enough then sure...except why would you even argue that? Obviously the number of people who have liberal ideals is very large and it's unlikely that even the majority are all actual trators. Same thing with the "have been wrong" idea. Even if you limit her thinking to just "the liberal parties" how many of their ideas does she address? What percentage of the whole is that? Now I'm sure some of you might be thinking "It's every MAJOR issue?" but again how many major issues are addressed in this book?

Then we have McCarthy. I think she's being a bit deceptive here. She acts like shes simply stating that "the villification of McCarthy was incorrect and done by liberals and they shouldn't have done that" but she also seems to be subtlely implying that McCarthy acted reasonably (there is at least one place where she refers to McCarthy investigating people with 'liberal ideas' as "not a half bad system"). An arguement to which she gives no evidence.

Firstly what Ann does give ( but without the actual texts ) are statements about who was accused, aquitted but ultimately found guilty. But no mention of how many of the accused were actually found to be guilty. She says this doesn't matter. Personally I think it does if you're going to endorse aspects of McCarthy's behavior.

Secondly there is no mention of any evidence stating if McCarthy was acting on the same evidence that Ann is later using to convict those people or any evidence at all. Understand that McCarthy could have been "right" (well at best partially right - even if you believe an you can really only support a thesis of "there were some spies in government") AND crazy. I mean if one day one of the street people downtown uttered that five or six stocks were going to go up...would you then advocate going to street people for stock advice...even if those stocks happen to go up?

Summary: WHO'S THE REAL TRAITOR?
Review: As a "liberal" I care deeply about things like free speech, and support Coulter's right to state her views, even if I think they're trash. What bothers me about this book is not that she despises liberals, that's her problem, it's that she accuses people of different viewpoints of being "traitors." For years liberal groups like the ACLU have worked hard to protect the Constitutional rights of everyone, including right-wing hate-mongers like Ann Coulter. How can someone who protects and defends the Constitution be called a traitor? And what does that make someone like John Ashcroft, a man who has worked tirelessly to undermine the Bill of Rights? If it were up to Coulter the Democratic Party would be banned, and political dissent would be a thing of the past. There's a word for this type of government and it's called Totalitarianism. I've always heard people jokingly refer to die-hard conservatives as Nazis but I didn't realize until now it was no joke. Thanks for clearing that up, Ann!

Some of the people who have given this book a positive review have dared anyone to dispute Coulter's assertions with the facts. Well, that's pretty easy to do given all of the errors, misrepresentations, distortions, and omissions contained in this work of fiction. They're far too numerous to address in one review so I'll focus my comments on the ludicrous assertion that conservatives are somehow tougher on terrorism than liberals. (For those of you who want more examples, there are numerous web pages dedicated to the subject. I'd recommend starting with the non-partisan website spinsanity.org)

The Republican track record on fighting terror is nothing short of abysmal. When Ronald Reagan was in office, repeated, brazen terrorists attacks against Americans went unpunished time after time. When the Iranian-backed terrorist group Hizb'allah blew up the American Embassy in Beirut not once but twice, and then blew up the Marine barracks, killing 241 soldiers, Reagan did nothing. That's right - NOTHING. Worse, he inspired the Bin Ladens of the world by pulling the Marines out, demonstrating unequivocally that terrorism works. , No actions were taken against Hizb'allah, Iran, or terrorist mastermind Imad Mugniyah, who to this day remains on the FBI's most wanted list of terrorists, and, until Sept. 11, 2001, was responsible for the deaths of more Americans than any other terrorist in history.

When the CIA pinpointed the Sheikh Abdullah barracks in the Bekaa Valley as the terrorist compound where the attacks had been plotted, Reagan waffled and eventually a planned airstrike was aborted. It was up to the French, yep, you read that right, THE FRENCH, to finally launch a retaliatory strike against the terrorists. The icing on the cake? Reagan turned around and sold thousands of high-tech Hawk and TOW missiles to our enemies in Iran. If you want to talk about impeachable offenses, forget Monica-gate and take a closer look at Iran-Contra.

Reagan's successor, Bush Sr., was no better, letting Syria off the hook for it's role in the bombing of Pan Am 103 (which killed 270 people) in order to persuade them to join the coalition that was forming to expel Saddam Hussein from Kuwait.

Despite President Bush's assertions, terrorists didn't declare war on America on Sept. 11. They'd long since declared war on us, as demonstrated above. But fighting terrorism doesn't require expensive boondoggle projects like a missile defense shield, so it's always been a low priority for them. Republicans like big expensive weapons so they can give their fat-cat defense industry cronies lucrative defense contracts. And that's exactly what Bush was focused on when Sept. 11 happened, despite warnings from CIA Director Tenet that Al Qaeda was the single greatest threat to American security.

After 9/11, every Democrat in Congress save one voted to authorize the use of military force against the Taliban, but when Clinton, was in office, the Republicans tried to stop him from going after Al Qaeda by accusing him of trying to distract attention from the Lewinsky scandal. After simultaneous bombings at our Embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, which killed several Americans, the Republicans were more concerned about scoring political points against Clinton than catching terrorists. Those Congressmen are the real traitors and they should resign in disgrace or be impeached for undermining the national security of this country.

Republicans are now trying to revise history and blame Clinton for 9/11. This is so ludicrous one wonders where to begin. It was the Reagan administration which trained, armed, and financed the mujahadeen in Afghanistan (they became the Taliban and Al Qaeda) and gleefully supported their "holy war" against the Soviets. Clinton recognized the danger of Al Qaeda and became obsessed with capturing or killing Bin Laden, going so far as to sign a Presidential Finding authorizing his assassination. The last President to sign such a Finding was Kennedy, another Democrat, authorizing a hit on Castro. Clinton was the first President to declare war on Al Qaeda and to ask for Bin Laden dead or alive, not Bush. The Republicans need to attack liberals on this issue in order to distract people from their own dismal record. As Samuel Johnson so wisely said: "Patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel." The Republicans can try to wrap themselves in the American flag all they want, but the bill of goods they're trying to sell us, like this book, stinks.

Coulter's claims are so far-fetched they'd would be laughable if they weren't so offensive. Are we really to believe that Democrats like Senator and Presidential hopeful John Kerry, who fought in Vietnam as a Navy SEAL while George W. Bush was hiding out in the Texas Air National Guard, is a traitor? If it wasn't for thousands of so-called "traitors" who have fought and died for this country, Coulter wouldn't even have the right to publish vile garbage like this. Oh, the irony. Maybe I'll write my own book about this appalling hypocrisy. I think I'll call it "Slander."

Summary: Crimes Against Reason
Review: Coulter is the current mistress of political theatre and given much more respect and air time by the so-called liberal media than she deserves. Like most conservatives, she lacks critical thinking skills, a necessary factor for those who share this skewed, faith-based school of thought. Moreover, accusing Democrats as being treasonous i.e. aiding and abetting a foreign enemy by proxy, borders on libel. Truman, a traitor? With an inuenedo-based thesis Coulter resurects Joseph McCarthy as a fair-minded patriot trying to rid the nation of infidels lest free thought be allowed corrupt the system. By blindly accusing all of those with opposing views as enemies waiting in the wings for a communist totalitarian takeover, apparently led by Hollywood entertainment writers, Treason takes paranoia to an all time high and reason to a new sub-basement level. A quick scan of the news today would support the need for the latter. This work should be listed under fiction.
