Rating: Summary: Shoddy research in service of an agenda Review: With the possible exception of her last book, "Treason" is the worst-researched, worst-written bestseller of the past five years.Set aside for the moment that Coulter crafts her text with all the aplomb of a 14-year-old schoolgirl. "Treason" mangles every reasonable standard of research, arguing from negative evidence, misquoting and taking sources out of context, and citing "facts" in the complete absence of documentation. Not that it really matters--Coulter seems interested only in manufacturing another potboiler for the lucrative right-wing book market. Her audience requires little more than further validation of their existing beliefs. In that respect, Coulter is a people-pleaser. She serves up tale after torrid tale of liberal outrage. It's too bad so little is true, or that her (mostly middle-aged white male) readers can't look beyond Coulter's physical attractiveness long enough to critically evaluate the shabby journalism they're being sold. The central theme of Coulter's work--that those who don't toe the line of the extreme right are traitors to their nation--should be sufficiently odious to send up flags among most readers. It's a sad commentary on the current state of American civil discourse that this book isn't shelved with UFO exposes and Red-baiting relics of the Cold War. Perhaps as the sands of time run out on her hourglass figure, people will pay more attention to what Coulter is saying and less on her bookcover appeal.
Rating: Summary: Book is not worth either hating or defending Review: People like this, crazy people like Coulter, say wild things, like McCarthy is a great American, to get attention and to sell books. So don't give her any. Like Morton Downey Jr., pro wrestling, or even Mr. T, it's all an act. She doesn't even believe what she is saying. And, as for the ignoramouses that like this book, well, you're being conned. It seems there is always some 'smart' Republican out there that will use your own natural intsincts to hate and feel prejudice for politics to detract from the real issues (the fact that many of you have lost your jobs and the economy is in the dumper). In this case, it's to to sell a book - and a bad one at that. While you are all grunting and groaning trying to make out the words you know in this book, the already rich Miss Coulter is sitting back and counting more of her money.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: One of the best non-fiction books I have ever read. Extremely well supported and with a dose of irreverent humor. She clearly shows that McCarthyism is a myth, Hiss and the Rosenbergs were guilty, and liberal incompetence gave us the the Cold War, the Korean War, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Vietnam War, and the fall of the Shah. Further, FDR and Truman looked the other way after being told that Soviet spies were working for them. Again, this book was extremely well supported and a fascinating read.
Rating: Summary: Love the negative reviews Review: The best proof of this book's worth, is the way it's making all the ignoramouses FREAK OUT!
Rating: Summary: Great! Funny, factual, and backed with evidence! Review: Anne Coulter is one of the most intellegent people out there. In this book, she single-handedly overturnes the liberal lies that you were taught throughout the years. If one will but read more than three pages (see previous reviews), then maybe that certain somebody will see that. By the way, the sentence, "Free speech is a one-way ratchet for traitors" merely means that traitors can say anything they want, and when anyone tries to check them on what they say, they claim "free speech!! free speech!!" It is not contradictory of the author to say so. As with most things, there are downsides, and the author was merely stating the bane of free speech. This is actually a great book. She backs up all here arguments with valid evidence, and even slips in some humor here and there. Her common sense approach hits down home. If you want unsqued history, then this book is highly recomended.
Rating: Summary: UnAmerican! Review: Think back to your childhood. Remember the friend that always thought up the wildest lies, but was the worst liar. That is Ann Coulter. A vicious, bitter woman who apparently hates America more than any liberal. See, America was based on freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and other freedoms that separate us from Theocratic dictatorships. Ann is opposed to these things, suggesting that America is for conservative radicals like herself, and nobody else. It's okay though, because she's not fooling anyone. Al Franken is selling way more books than she is, and what was the number one bestselling nonfiction book of last year? You got it, "Stupid White Men" by Michael Moore (who also won an Oscar for a very FACTUAL movie. Sorry, everything at www.revoketheoscar.com has been disproven on Moore's site). See, America no longer wants the tired old right suggesting "good ideas" from the 1800's. It also doesn't want homophobes like Mike Savage, loudmouths like Bill O'Reilly, or fascist liars who defend nazi-sympathizers like Coulter. If you're a conservative, do yourself a favor and get a right-slanted book that isn't full of lies and hateful attacks. You'll seem a lot more evolved at your next GOP rally.
Rating: Summary: Wow! Right on! She's a genius. Review: The erudition of those reviewing this book (check that one from the 21st who can't spell his name). Now there's someone who really knows intellectual content when he "reeds" it. (an example of his spelling) Anyway, Ann uncovers a frightening history of how the Left has been anti-American for decades and happily embraces dictators and consistently side with whoever is criticizing America. Witness their recent quaking under the stern criticism of our French "friends". She cites instances of their wining and dining some of these lovable tyrants in Hollywood and elsewhere; praising the virtues of Socialist and Communist regimes, and etc. ad nauseum. Any claims that there are errors or lies in this book should be checked out for yourself. Read it...and you be the judge.
Rating: Summary: liberals need to be thrown in prison Review: After reading this book, I am more convinced than ever that we need to increase our national prison capacity by 5,000%. This is necessary so that we can incarcerate all liberals or anyone who voted for Bill Clinton. Ms. Coulter has hit the nail on the head. All of her assertions are backed up with indisputable facts. Liberals are terrorists, and are trying to destroy America. They need to be imprisoned. Ann Coulter argues that we need a one party political system, and I agree. It would be so much easier to finally destroy medicare, social security and all of the other Great Society liberal creations.
Rating: Summary: Filled with hate, lies and no respect for the truth. Review: People like this amaze me. Such total and utter dishonesty. Getting a few facts wrong is one thing. But this woman goes out of her way to tell as many lies as possible and engage in hateful character assasination. Books are supposed to be written to illuminate, educate or entertain (very good books do all three). Her book does nothing but deceive, mislead, infuriate and inspire people to hatred. It's a shame that they actually wasted paper to print such a book. Most books (even the poorly written ones) have SOME redeeming qualities. Her book has none.
Rating: Summary: I got to page 3. Review: My friend's father purchiced this book and insisted that i read it. I said ok, it's fun disproving right-wingers. I got to page 3, and found a HUGE contradiction, and gave the book back. In page one I assume she is going to not be anti-American because of this statement: "Liberals have a preternatural gift for striking a position on the side of treason. You can be talking about Scrabble and they would instantly leap to the anti-American position." (Page 1) then on page 3, the sickest, nazistic, most hypocritical thing i have ever heard come out of any pundit's mouth: "Free speech is a one-way ratchet for trators" (Page 3) Free-Speach is probably one of the few freedoms we have left now that we don't have full privacy, thanks to the Patriot Act and she want's it gone I assume (Assume makes an ass of you and me, i know but one can't help to.) Don't buy this book unless you like your head up your own poop shoot, but if you do enjoy the darkness and the smell of your own fecsies, go head and buy it.
