Rating: Summary: Yuck! Yuk? Ugh!.... Review: Much as I enjoy Stephen King, I can't wax poetic on this one; loved the stories; hated the graphic gore and details...
Rating: Summary: For the love of god Think TWICE BEFORE BUYING THIS! Review: Summary: Horribly Nasal voice! No pauses or individual tracks (so if you take the CD out prepare to fast forward through 15-45 minutes of audio) Lackluster stories with an emphasis on smoking..
Rating: Summary: Smokescreen Review: After an agonizing 1 and 1/2 stories, I just could not bear to listen to Stephen King's high pitched monotone drivel anymore. This coming from a Stephen King fan, no less. The first story (Gotham Cafe) was a complete joke, not scary at all but extremely irritating and a waste of time. I could never get into the 2nd one (1408), kept having to rewind and start over. Sorry Stephen, please don't read for the audio anymore and *please* - write better stories...I miss the caliber of stories like "The Shining". Can I have my $$ back?
Rating: Summary: Great Stories a Must Listen! Review: I found this CD set at my local library and being a King fan I checked it out. I popped it in the old discman and listned as I drove. The first story Lunch at the Gotham Cafe was entertaining but nothing special same with the third story. But the second story 1408 holy cow! I have not been that creeped out by a story for a long, long time. If you are a King fan you have got to read this story. It caught me totally unaware of how disturbing it would be and it scared me so bad I slept with the lights on. This one will grab you Mr. King is such a talented writer he makes you feel you are going insane right along with Mike. Read it! Alone in the dark if you dare!
Rating: Summary: Great reading and writing but with some technical problems. Review: Stephen King is a brilliant writer and I love hearing him read his work aloud. These three stories once again prove his talent. The only problems I had with this set of tapes were technical. First, "Lunch at the Gotham Cafe" has been previously published in an anthology of horror stories so it was nothing new (also the tape reads "Lunch IN at the Gotham Cafe"). The music which opens and closes "1408" was so overbearing that it was hard to concentrate on Mr. King's voice. These things are probably beyond his control and didn't do much to lessen my enjoyment of the tapes. I highly recommend "Blood and Smoke" to anyone who likes Mr. King's work.
Rating: Summary: Not up to King Standards but still better than the rest Review: I wanted to quit somoking and thought it would't be a bad idea to quit while listening to Mr King reading these stories. And guess what:The funny thing is that all the main characters gave up somoking a short time ago...(sounds like the author tried to quit himself wihile writing the material) The idea is good, the packaging is funny (the 3 tapes come in a box that looks like a pack of cigarettes) but I was't all too happy with the stories. The end of Srory Nr 1 is pretty good (eeh, eeh..) Story Nr 2 has a wonderful beginning but a lousy ending and Story Nr 3 has a predictable ending. However Mr King is still one of the best storytellers around and a very good reader. This man really knows how to tell a story even if the content is not all that brilliant. That's why he got 5 on this from me. Or to say it very short: This is bloody good stuff, check it out even if there are a few things that one could argue about.
Rating: Summary: Nobody does it better Review: I have to admit, I like the heft of a novel. However, any true S. King fan has to have this audio collection. King's narration adds a wonderful feel to the stories. Once again King delivers the goose bumps, and his characters are wonderfully developed. This collection is a lot of fun, the stories kept my attention, and I couldn't wait to pop in the CD to find out the next twist.
Rating: Summary: Very interesting stories Review: All these stories were quite interesting and entertaining to listen to. I give 4 stars out of five on all of them. The best had to be the second one, the 1408 story, it's the only one that even came close to a 5 on my list. The third one, the death room, was also quite good but the main characters escape after getting out of the room was a little too easy. The first story was good but probably the worst. It had a lot of potential and I found some parts even funny, but it was really too far fetched and it didn't really make any sense, it was too UN-logical. In this piece of work, Blood and Smoke, Stephen King's great writing skills are UN-deniable but I can't help but think that all the stories could have been alot better if he would have put some more work into them. I would really love to see some kind of sequel to Lunch At the Gotham Cafe(The first story) It was quite interesting and I'm eager to see what happens next.
Rating: Summary: The Master at His Best Review: Having never heard an audiobook, but as a loyal King fan, I tried to but could not overlook this audiobook. I finally broke down, purchased it and found that the thrill of having the Master read it aloud himself added an even more eerie feel to the stories. The ultimate chillfest is "1408", I found myself getting chills down my spine, and hairs standing up on my arms and neck. I hadn't felt that thrilled since .... Awesome read ! I highly recommend it to any King fan.
Rating: Summary: Just Wonderful Review: I've never bought an audio tape before but Amazon's recommendation section referred me to this tape. I have book by Steven King and I love this idea of an audio only book. The three stories are funny, fantastic and some times gory. But each one is just plain fantastic. I would also suggest if you haven't read "Smoke Enders, Inc." you've got to get it, just to add to your pack. I loved this audio. Stephen's reading is an eerie addition.
