Summary: Enough Action For A Good Short Story
Review: Unfortunately, Mr Cussler needs a lot of money to keep his real world NUMA salvage operations going, so he obviously made a deal to allow his name to be put on this sickly effort at writing an adventure novel. That's the only excuse I can imagine for the existance of this drawn out mess. Save your money and buy something REALLY written by Mr Cussler.

Summary: A good idea that should be continued.
Review: I thought I was reading a Dan Brown book. Plot --> Action Scene--> Cut! No humor. No meaning. My eyes glazed over several times. Even as is, this book is better than most for sale today. However, I prefer his books written without a coauthor. Maybe he's using a new editor...

Summary: Horrible Audio Book
Review: No previous reviewer has commented on the unabridged audio version of this book. With this audio, you not only get a lousy story, but as a bonus you get to hear the story read by a lousy and insulting "actor." I can't believe the publisher ever listened to this before it was released. Words spoken by Chinese characters are "performed" in the most cartoonish "Ah So!" accent you can imagine. It's almost worth looking for a copy in the $3.00 discount stack just to hear how truly awful this book is. I'm trying to plow through to the end of the story, but I fear falling asleep at the wheel. I am not Asian, but I am nonetheless deeply offended by this audiobook performance.

Summary: Cusslerfan
Review: Many people seemed to have missed the boat on this novel. This is a pirate novel set in modern days. The story is your typical Robin Hood (of the Seven Seas) style of adventure. The moral pirate, the scoundrel with a cause, Dirk Pitt without the government to legitimize his exploits. The story is a quick, fun read that captures some of the eariler elements of Clive's first Dirk Pitt novels. My only criticism is the enclusion of too many named characters. I don't need to know what every member of the crew does, save that for further novels. Overall a good read that kept me going, nothing too surprising, but not a let down either.

Summary: very boring
Review: I am a long time Cussler fan and a Craig Dirgo fan as well. But this book is so boring I would rather watch paint dry.

Summary: Golden Hooey!!
Review: Cabrillo and his inconspicuous ship of hired guns aboard the Oregon are resurrected from the pages of Cussler's "Floodtide" to capture the sacred "Golden Buddha" stolen from the possession of the spiritual leader of Tibet, the Dalai Lama. In a complex scheme administered by the US government to return this exiled leader to his homeland, Cabrillo and company must contend with devious villains, clever thieves and an assortment of evil thugs.

This story is a great departure from the usual writing style of Cussler. The cast of characters is so great that dear reader finds himself thoroughly confused. Cussler must have recognized this at some point, because he includes a long list of characters and the roles they play at the beginning of the book. Albeit some of the characters have Chinese names, the author pays absolutely no heed to the cultural mannerisms of these characters. It's just a name! Other displeasing features of the writing include a far greater and more daring display of harsh language and references to homosexuality. This is not the same wholesome adventure of good versus evil that we have enjoyed of Cussler's previous compositions.

Summary: OUCH!!! Don't waste your time on this one
Review: I have been a Clive Cussler fan for over 20 years and thoroughly enjoyed all of his Dirk Pitt novels. The character development in this story was horrible, the plot was inplausible and hard to follow. I kept reading and hoping that it would get better. The base concept of "The Corporation" is excellent, but was very poorly developed and communicated. The authors tried to accomplish too much in the story line without fleshing out the characters. Do not waste your time on this one!!!

Summary: Terrible
Review: I am a big Cussler fan, at least I thought I was. Golden Buddha, without mincing words, is terrible. I agree with most of the reviewers that this book lacks any punch at all. As a reader, I didn't care about any of the characters, and I kept waiting for there to be a climax. Most Cussler novels are fairly unbelievable, but this one was just too much. I could suspend my disbelief for that long. There wasn't a single moment in the story where I was concerned about the characters at all. The crew of the Oregon seem to have the ability to do anything they want at anytime. Very bad book, and this is coming from a Cussler and Clancy fan.

Summary: I'm trying to be understanding here...
Review: I am expecting that this book will be the first in a long line of Oregon Files stories, much as the Mediterranean Caper was for Dirk Pitt. Golden Buddha has some rough thats needs to be smoothed over, but I believe as time passes that Juan Cabrillo and his Corporation will become what Dirk Pitt now is to Cussler faithful.

The rapid pace of Golden Buddha throws the reader into occasional states of confusion as we seek to recall each character and his/her role in the story. Once the reader has sorted out the players in this book, we have to deal with the plot, which honestly does leave a bit to be desired. I finished the book eventually but found the ending rather anticlimatic as the story seemed to just fizzle out instead of having the usual Cussler-esque neat-and-clean end to the story.

I recall that Mediterranean Caper, in similar fashion to Golden Buddha, left a lot to be desired. In the years since, however, Dirk Pitt has become a contemporary icon. So I believe it will be with Cabrillo and the Corporation. My hope is that the next installment of the Oregon Files will be more satisfying than this first attempt.

Summary: Not as Bad as Everyone is Saying!
Review: My entire family are big fans of Clive Cussler and eagerly await for his next adventure. I think the mistake most of us make is in comparing apples to oranges. I think we can all agree that we love the adventures of Dirk Pitt, But I for one also love the adventures of Kurt Austin (actually written by Paul Kemprecos)but not for the same reasons (again, I don't compare the two series to one another}. Let's go back and look at the first few Dirk Pitt adventures and compare them to the latest Pitt tomes, We can probably say they were crap, But the characters and writing and stories improved in time as it also did with Kurt Austin. Although I agree that this is not the greatest Clive Cussler book ever written I eagerly await the next installment in this series and will have as much fun watching these characters and stories develop as I have Dirk and Kurt. Clive and Craig, Thanks for giving me more adventures to look forward to.
