Rating: Summary: Carlinism Review: I'm a big Carlin fan, and the type of material in this book is exactly why. Ridulously far-fetched essays, zany insights into life, and the only NON-CORNY puns I've ever encountered.I gave the book 4 stars, not 5, because some jokes seemed a bit weak, and didn't even win a chuckle. I *thought* that maybe Carlin was a little "tired" and worn out on jokes when I first read it, and figured maybe he was running a little low on material, so he watered it down--I was wrong. His next book, "Napalm and Silly Putty," is MUCH funnier. It gets the five stars, hands down. If you can only buy ONE, buy NAPALM AND SILLY PUTTY. *IF* you have the cash to spare and you're already a Carlin fan, buy BOTH; you will find exactly what you're looking for: My man Georgie doesn't disappoint.
Rating: Summary: His incites are not very cleaver Review: With all the controversy surrounding him, I expected more. I honestly could have sat down and made up a lot of his material myself. Because of his views, I expected to gain some new incite or perspective. I at least expected to laugh and didn't get that either. This book is boring. I wish I would have spent my money elsewhere.
Rating: Summary: Very good Review: Even though Carlin sometimes doesn't know when to use Lenny Bruce style humor or Steven Wright observational style, this book worked big time for me. He's best when he finds his own voice and runs with it. Thanks George.
Rating: Summary: Crabby old man Review: Seems that as he's gotten older, George Carlin has just gotten crabbier. He takes ranting to a new low. I was really disappointed with this one. He needs to take a valium!!
Rating: Summary: decent Review: Brain Droppings does have some funny parts like Carlin's short takes and unncessary words. However, the book is fairly disourganized making it difficult to read and there is a lack of cohesion in the book. The book doesn't quite live up to his stand -up routine
Rating: Summary: You're an old man, George Review: This is nothing more than yet another book by an ex-hippie sellout (I know that it is redundant to call someone this) trying to cash in by selling out the things he once held as important. The 1960s are over, George, and the vital people of today have no idea what you are talking about. It is high time that you hippies stood aside.
Rating: Summary: Of course!! Review: It's Carlin. It's smart, it's entertaining, it's educational and it's funny. Those with a closed mind or are easily offended need not apply. This is an unbiased look at the society in which we live in and the silliness so much of us take so seriously. Highly recommended!
Rating: Summary: Funny Book From A Comedy God Review: This book has a lot of Carlin's best bits as well as a few new observations. I like how this book has a real "no holds barred" feel to it, despite being a book and not an HBO comedy special. They really let Carlin run wild here and that's great! I highly recommend this book to lovers of comedy and Carlin!
Rating: Summary: ROFLMAO Review: If you know George, then you can hear his comedic voice coming through this book loud and clear. Extremely insightful, interesting, witty, and hilarious are some of the words I would use. I would also have to throw in angry, critical, sarcastic and downright blasphemous. My favorite part in the middle of all this humor and anger, two short sentences in small print, like the voice of a child: "Why is it like this? Why isn't everything different?" After you read that, you know this book was worth much more than the asking price, whatever it may be.
Rating: Summary: One of the funniest men of the planet Review: George Carlin still remains one of the funniest men on the planet with his observations of the idiosyncresies of modern society. While is largely known as a comedian, many of his observation are relevant and accurate. While Brain Droppings is entertaining, Silly Putty and Napalm is a much more entertainig book. Either book makes a good book to keep on your desk at home or work to brighten up an otherwise gloomy day. This is not the type of book you can rush through and appreciate. Take your time and enjoy!!
