Rating: Summary: I really enjoy George Carlin doing a stand-up comedy routine Review: the thing that is missing out of this book is the way george carlin delivers a joke when he does a stand-up routine. I could'nt finish the book - I got tired of his constant whining
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Intelligent Humor Review: The funniest book yet I've read in 1997. The humor certainly is quite "tongue and cheek" at times and the book is written in a way that seem Carlin is entertaining right in your own home ! A must read! Jessica Cossaboom (jdcoss.hotmail.com
Rating: Summary: Classic Carlin Review: George shows us that he's still got it in his latest book. Still funny after all these years. Not a book for the easily offended, nor for hospital reading, especially if you have stitches! I found this out the hard way. Great quick reads
Rating: Summary: You Must Buy This Book! Review: Carlin cranks out some of his best material in this book. The pages contain sharp, unrepenting humor as well as hard, swift logic. Carlin gives a honest viewpoint on how and why this country is going down the toilet while and the same time laughing at it,too. I am a BIG George Carlin fan and I love this book. You must buy it. It's great, great reading
Rating: Summary: what happened? Review: I used to love George Carlin, but this book?! What a disappointment. I could forgive the mostly
weak humor if it weren't backed with such bitterness and bile! It reads more like the rantings of a sour Ebenezer Scrooge, than the insightful observations of a keen satirist. My advice? Buy one of Carlin's old albums instead. Now those are funny!
Rating: Summary: George Carlin - The Master of Comedy Review: Let me just say that this book came at a great time when I needed something to read late at night and make me laugh out loud until I woke the annoying neighbors up next door. George, you are the master of comedy and I admire you and your brilliant writting. You are a pleasure to read, and hear! Truly one of the funniest and most inspiring comics today. What is so amazing about this book is that it is not only funny, many of Georges ideas....make sense! Believe it or not....I found myself agreeing with him many times. Thank you for the laughs George. For you I have nothing but praise!!!
Rating: Summary: Cold, Bitter and Not Funny Review: Carlin's humor does not transfer well to text. He comes across bitter, hateful and humorless. His take on the English language is often amusing and some of his lists are funny, but the humor and "insights" were minimal. This book disappointed me greatly.
Rating: Summary: More proof that Carlin is a comedy master Review: Knock you on yer butt pee your pants funny... bottom lin
Rating: Summary: From Hillarious to just Twisted Review: George Carlin is an amazing talented standup comic who decided to "stretch" by writing a book. Unfotunately (or maybe fortunately), this comes off as a script for his stand-up routines. If you've seen him in person or on HBO you've seen much of this material. That's good - if you'd never heard Carlin give this in person then most will appear disjointed, rambling thoughts. On the other hand, if you can picture and hear him do this, then you'll find yourself laughing.I had always admired Carlin and his caustic insights into everyday life. He decided his job in life was to be the court jester to the world and let us all know how full of it we are. Reading the book I found myself at times laughing - especially at the "Short Takes" section where he throws out hillarious one liners and some of his classic jokes. Then I'd read one of the short narratives and observations he's made and become concerned about his negativity. As disturbing as some of his thoughts are you start to worry ... until he hits another series of hillarious one liners. Watch out who you loan this one to - it's got way more than the "7 dirty words you can't say on television".
Rating: Summary: Really Great Book Review: This book is real fun to read, at worst it's clever at best it's genius. I read 120 pages the day it came, to give you an idea of the entertainment value of the book. Carlin is a great comedian, to me the best of all time next to Richard Pryor, and he does a good job on this book. I'll probably start his second book "Napalm and Silly Putty" soon, and his third book "When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops" when it comes out. Have fun with this book, that's what it's for, but it also has many insights and interesting ideas we can all appreciate.
