Summary: Several hits and a few misses
Review: Lots of classic Carlin, but boy is he more crotchety than ever! Often, hilariously so. But sometimes I wondered if he was still on drugs, because he was way off on a tangent. But other times, I laughed so hard I hurt myself. He probably could have used an editor, because some of this stuff just isn't funny - a lot was just weird, and that kind of makes you wonder if he's really still got it.

Summary: George Carlin's Brain Droppings: Best book I've ever read.
Review: Brain Droppings is a collection of all new material, with some of Carlin's other best material. There are spontaneous quotes, questions, and philosophies, along with chapter long hysterical genius. Also contains the classic, Baseball Football thing. The best.

Summary: Bravo, Perfect
Review: before i bought the book, i read some of it in the store. I had to go to a different store to buy the book. Because i got kicked out for "creating a disturbance". This is some good stuff.

Summary: Barbed humor, very barbed
Review: After reading the whole thing, I wanted either to hate George Carlin*s book, or at least enjoy it more than I did. This book suffers from what I call *Mark Twain Syndrome*; George can*t decide which way to write. Is this supposed to be an amusing view of modern life that*s self-consciously stopping to make biting remarks on the media, capitalism, etc.? Or is it an angry jeremiad against American society that is also thoroughly laced with humor? Satire IS supposed to make us think, but in this case George whipsaws between the stinging and the humorous too much; I don*t believe I am thinking the way he hoped I would. His comments are almost too double-edged, example *Some people pay good money to go drive and watch monster trucks crushing cars. Some people don*t have cars.* What can I say besides *Lucky them*? Of course the classic bits, *Baseball, football*, *A Place for My Stuff* are included along with frequent snipes about racism, consumerism and the like; the two chapters of one-liners are fun. All the same, if George is so upset at America, why can*t he be consistant? He heavily peppers the text with one particular word; I felt like I was hopscotching over a mile of dog messies. Ha-ha, very funny. Amusing, even it doesn*t have to be.

Summary: Classic Carlin sent coffee up my nose.
Review: Last week my taxi driver pulled the cab we were in to the curb because he said that my laughter in the back seat was distracting him. You can hear Carlin's classic cadence while reading the best of his best musings. I laughed so hard and unexpectedly that coffee went up my nose. This is George's juciest collecttion of "stuff" yet.

Summary: Recommended as Brain Candy
Review: I see that some fans of his work have been saying how much they hated this book because of its cynicism. If you read closely, most of those fans haven't been paying attention to his last couple of records. Carlin's moved on from "Baseball/Football" (which is included in the book) and on to bigger issues. In career as long as Carlin's you're bound to evolve (or devolve depending on your viewpoint). This book is completely in the vein of his albums "Back In Town" and "Jammin' In New York" -- if you like that style of humour you'll love Brain Droppings. There's no doubt Carlin's humour is more cynical since the days of "hippy dippy weatherman". But then so are the times folks, and we've only got ourselves to blame. Carlin's still poking fun at the world -- sadly its ours. Might as well laugh along the way!

Summary: this book is too funny to read on the bus!!
Review: people will think you are insane if you read this book in a public place, like on a bus or at the train station. it is way too funny and you will most likely have to change your drawers after reading it, so be prepared. i read parts of it to friends, and they also found it very cacklesome.

Summary: George simply being George
Review: This book made me cry from laughter. I bought it one day and read it the next day, cover to cover. The best thing is that after I read it, if I needed a quick laugh I could turn back to any page and enjoy it as much as the first time. "Brain Droppings" is the purest form of George Carlin you can get. Anyone can appreciate his "whining" with an open mind...a VERY open mind.

Summary: The rantings of a grumpy old man
Review: I've always thought George Carlin was one of the most intelligent comics around and have always enjoyed his stand-up routines. His use of the English language is insightful. I thought his sitcom a few years back was a bad idea and showed him as a grumpy old man. Well, guess what? If this book is the real George, then he has become a grumpy old man. That's sad; he's been one of the great talents of our time.

Summary: The Greatest Thing Since Sliced Bread
Review: This book is hands down the best comedic manifesto on God's green earth. True, George has gotten more mean-spirited with age; but it has to be expected, considering that very few, if any, of the issues he has attacked over the years have changed at all. Politics, language, and the world in general are still among Carlin's pet peeves. An excellent bathroom, waiting room, or just for fun book. Readable from any starting point: beginning, middle, end; the laughs are all there. I quote Travis Birkenstock: "Two very enthusiastic thumbs-up; fine holiday fun". :) All hail G.C.!
