Rating: Summary: Hearing is believing Review: I had the pleasure of listening to this product while commuting one week. There are some amazing stories pulled from Dr. Phil's past and some wonderful step by step examples for the listener to follow. Dr. Phil is great on the printed page, but hearing him speak is the real deal. James Green, author of "If There's One Thing I've Learned."
Rating: Summary: I know it's a cliche, but it changed my life... Review: I listened to this audio book after having a mini-nervous breakdown at my job. I hated everyday of my work but I felt trapped by debt & honor. 'Getting Real' showed me that I needed to make a change in my life to find happiness. You need to make a commitment to yourself to be happy & you have to be willing to sacrifice for happiness. There are many classic Dr. Phil sayings on 'Getting Real' but one statement stood out in my mind. "Are you doing what you're doing today just because you did it yesterday?" That was my life & I sure wasn't "living by design." I made a commitment to myself to leave my office job in six months & I set a deadline. I didn't know what I would be doing but I knew it wasn't going to be office work. I gave myself six months to brainstorm about my life. What did I want? I have now returned to school to obtain a degree in my passion: languages & working with people. "Getting Real" was one of many motivators that I had & it was great to have the support. You can do it too!
Rating: Summary: Must Read Review: I personally think everyone can benefit from this book. Dr. Phil talks on a level that anyone can understand. This is his best work todate.
Rating: Summary: Get them! Use them! Review: I received these tapes not a week ago and am currently on my second round of listening. I have read much on Dr. McGraw, including his books, and as someone who has searched through life for "the answer" on how to change, I found it from Dr. McGraw - and these tapes send it home. By the time I finished with the fourth tape, I wanted to do better and knew I could. I have already made many changes as a result of Dr. McGraw's books, now these tapes give me more to do and I can't wait to get started. I recommend these highly, and may just give them as Christmas presents. What better thing to give someone than a better future.
Rating: Summary: A Good Kick In The Butt Review: I've read Dr. Phil's book Life Strategies and found it worthwhile, but being an ordinary person with no MAJOR problems the book didn't really cause me to make any big changes. These audio tapes are a good review of Life Strategies and a great kick in the butt to look a little deeper. We can all use some external motivation every once in a while. Dr. Phil's presentation style is very easy to listen to and follow.
Rating: Summary: Forget these Tapes-Read the Book. Review: If Dr. Phil had narrated his own book, the tapes would be great. Disappointingly, he doesn't. The fellow that reads is a complete mismatch of this material. After 10 minutes, I couldn't take his voice anymore. I tried to be patient. I tried to be tolerant. Sorry, this voice just doesn't work. Not even close. Forget the tapes. Read the book.
Rating: Summary: Get with the Program! Review: It is so easy to fall into the negatives that life throws our way. Dr. Phil tells what it takes to shield us from what is not beneficial for us to live with confidence and happiness. His presentation is "in your face" with no chance of misinterpreting. Get to work on making you life a better place to live! Dr. Phil is tremendous.
Rating: Summary: Comprehensive, Classic Dr. Phil Review: Really a good overview of Dr. Phil McGraw's life strategies and why they work. In the seminar, Dr. Phil motivates people to make positive changes in their lives, without telling them to adopt his word as gospel. Dr. Phil manages to explain concepts and "encourages" the listener to follow his simple strategies ~ only if they want to. Encorporated stories are thought provoking as well as entertaining. Highly recommend these tapes to anyone the slight bit curious about what the fuss is all about.
Rating: Summary: You MUST buy this book! I LOVE YOU DR. PHIL! Review: Seriously, this is one of the best seminars I've ever heard. Dr. Phil's Life Strategies combined with his incredible speaking ability gives listeners the tools to change their life. He kept me so interested in what he was saying that I couldn't wait to hear what he would say next. The primary purpose is for YOU to change the things in YOUR life that need fixing and a hopeful consequence of those actions will also improve your relationship with your Significant Other & Loved Ones. I can only hope that he will release even more seminars and other self-help books on different topics, as there are many other American epidemics that I'm sure he could help with. Hey Dr. Phil, if you're reading this, how about releasing more self-help books for things such as addiction, over-eating, or self-esteem? Back to these tapes, BUY THEM TODAY (don't wait), borrow them from a friend, or rent them from your local library. You won't be disappointed! If you're looking for the motivation and the tools to change your life, these tapes are for you. The next step would be for your SPOUSE or SO to listen to them...
Rating: Summary: Doesn't quite "Get It" Review: Since I am a great fan of Dr. Phil's, I found this to be enjoyable but did not find it to be a great offering of guidelines for self-improvement. If someone doesn't already "get it", there are no real examples of how someone can change to be a person who does "get it." Possibly someone will recognize themself in the examples, but I highly doubt it. Having watched Dr. Phil's show and having worked with individuals personally who are afflicted with these symptoms, it would be my guess that most people who could truly benefit by a change of mind set, will have excuses as to why these examples don't apply to them instead of having a lightbulb go off that makes them realize that they are who Dr. Phil is describing. Those people need to be hit over the head with a ball bat and, even then, will normally only concede that "maybe" their behaviors are their's to own. If they do make this realization, they will need a step by step guide on changing and will not benefit from strictly from coming face to face with their behaviors.
