Rating: Summary: Essential for anyone in contact with kids! Review: This book is a must for anyone who has contact with kids. I have used the principles advocated in "How to Talk..." as a nanny, especially as a preschool teacher, and with family members consistently since I read the book. I highly recommend purchasing this one for yourself. I borrowed it the first time I read it, and then couldn't wait to own my own copy to refer to again and again! This book is a great way of becoming more self-aware, and recognizing better ways to be present with the children in your life.
Rating: Summary: Real ideas for real people! Review: Wow! What a great book. It gives such realistic advice and the authors really seem to know how a family really works. (Not like some books for parents that present examples that sound like a sitcom with a happy ending!) The only wierd thing about the book is that it's quite old and some of the examples are dated. But dated or not, the ideas really truly work. The book gives simple, easy to follow advice on what to say and how to say it so that your kids get along better with each other and with you too. If you like the ideas in this book you'll also like another brand new book called Hidden Messages - What Our Words and Actions are Really Telling Our Children. I'd recommend both of these to any parent of a child from toddlers all the way up to teenagers.
Rating: Summary: Kids Review: I found this book to be very helpful. I even tried some of the things I read about with my 6 year old daughter. Some of the suggestions actually worked!! I recommend anyone with children to definately read this book.
Rating: Summary: no way! Review: I think this kind of book should be written by kids! I mean who knows about the subject of the book more than those people themselves?I hated this book and I don't reccomend it!
Rating: Summary: These skills saved my life! Review: Please, do your kids AND yourself sanity a favor. These skills should be required High School material! The world would be a much better place if everyone grew up with parents who knew and used these skills!
Rating: Summary: use it daily! Review: Read it and use it daily. It's an older book but it still makes sense today. Best of all it works! The whole thought process is to show and tell children how to respect you as the parent, themselves and others. It's very similar to "Mommy-CEO," another book I'd highly suggest to parents and adults in general. In fact, the authors are right on target with goals to stop backtalk and encourage caring and sharing in real relationships. They also create an easy guideline to follow right in the office enviornment to build stability and respect with co-workers. Allowing others to feel good about themselves and their ideas will only provide for a win-win situation.
Rating: Summary: Worth Every Cent! Review: This book was first recommended to me when I was student teaching. The principles worked so well in the classroom, I decided to re-read it when I had my own child. Even though my baby is only 10 months old, I have already benefited from the values taught in this book. I have begun to teach myself to think on the levels taught, and it is helping in ALL of my relationships- respecting and listening, thinking and focusing on the people we love. This book is as valuable now as it was twenty years ago. Every parent should own a copy.
Rating: Summary: Mastermind of Psychological Warfare For Anybody Review: This book is not only applicable for adult to child but also excellent for adult to adult. I am always sceptical of child pyschologist and thier pure theoretical pyscological behavior models. This has proven to be our savior. Try it with your child after you have read the first 25 pages. Believe it or not, our child has responded positively to our (adults) changed behavior. It does not work all the time but I would say in seventy percent of the cases where our child went into a temper tantrum, they lasted no longer than 1 to 2 minutes. What a relief this book has brought to the atmosphere in our family. Thank you very much.
Rating: Summary: excellent ! Review: The most terrific book about everyday situations with our kids. Easy and logical to understand for everybody. If you want to know what goes on in your children's life, this book offers the tools. After practising the ideas for two weeks I can proudly say we have less arguing, tantrums and misunderstandings. A big "Thank you" to the author for sharing her experiences.
Rating: Summary: It's good! Review: This is one of the better parenting books I've read. It will tell parents how to open up their line of communication with their children, especially the two to six-year-old. Sibling Without Rivalry, by Adele Faber, is just as helpful, but more for the older kids. Both books are by the same authors and are worth the money!
