Summary: Classic Koontz
Review: Of all Koontz's novels, this one started a string of senarios that showed up in later stories. The dog, as intelligent (or more so) than humans with a sweet, lovely disposition juxtaposed against the Other, so evil and alien in nature, but with a sad, childlike quality (because it is aware of its differences, its ugliness in form and character to any other creature on Earth).This novel is a 1st recommendation to those unfamiliar with Koontz's stories. One that will leave the reader flipping page after page, making dinner late, the clothes unwashed, bedtime waiting till morning - a great read!

Summary: Who's That Doggin' My Tail...?
Review: Koontz's own personal favorite, and it's easy to see why. Everything now recognizable as his trademarks are evident in it. Even if you hate Koontz's adorable dogs - which would only be due to the drastic overkill usage of them in his books - you'll love Einstein, the genius golden labrador, who mostly carries this story. Einstein escapes from a government weapons lab, and hooks-up with an old war vet and his soon-to-be girlfriend, who piece together his history with a little help from Einstein, himself. Einstein is the scout half of a telepathic search-and-destroy animal team. The "Other" half is a mutant killer baboon, jealous of his "brother" Einstein's better looks and social skills. The Other wants Einstein's hide. The government wants its expensive search-and-destroy project back. Einstein just wants to be free of them all. The heroes want not to get killed by all the interested parties after Einstein. What's not to love? The best movie version of this - there are several, none of them that good - is actually Watchers 2. But read the book first. It really is Dean at his best.

Summary: My All Time Favorite by Dean R. Koontz
Review: This is my all time favorite Koontz and book for that matter. My Mom turned me on to DK in the early 90's and I was reluctant. Being a dog lover, I said to Mom that I didn't want to read a book where they would be cruel to animals. She said," No, no, just read it, try it." This is an intriguing story where a lost couple (for the movie which was AWFUL - I thought Clint Eastwood, Sally Fields, Sidney Poitier and John Goodman would have been excellent choices)find there way through the love and companionship of a wonderful animal. Even the side characters have life and are important to the story. I read this book every summer (along with a Wrinkle in Time) and stop people of the street if the have a golden retriever, ask them if they have read the book and if not encourage them to do so. We all have a Watcher, as Nora finds out.

Summary: One of his Bests
Review: I wouldn't say it's THE best, but Watchers is a heck of a book. Like many of his books, it drags at times, infact doesn't really get good until the end. However the battle that is fought between the good and bad are very emotional and strong. Koontz really captures these characters, and their life. THe ending is strong. EINSTEIN IS SOOOOOOOO COOL!!

Summary: A MUST-READ
Review: "Watchers" was my introduction to Dean Koontz. The only reasons I picked it up were because I own an incredible Golden Retriever, and am an avid fan of suspense/horror. My worn copy has moved with me to 3 states, and I read it at least once a year. I need books that take me places and give me hope, while giving me a good "jolt". This book took me on one hell of a ride...and still does! I have been reading since I could put 2 words together, and though a veracious reader, Watchers is the ONLY book I've read more than once. You will too!

Summary: Doesn't get much better than this!!
Review: REPOST of an earlier review I did accidently under my wife's name/account...she didn't enjoy it as much as I did because it was TOO suspensful for her (can't cover your eyes like when watching a movie). :-)
Now that there is about 250 reviews already with an average rating of 5 stars I hesitate to even leave a review because so much has already been said. Plain and simple...one of the best, most exciting, page-turning books I've ever read. The suspense at times was too much to bear and I had to put it down, relax, then come back too it. One of my all time favorite books!!

Summary: AMAZINGLY GREAT
Review: I absolutly loved this novel. I think out of all the amazing books Dean Koontz has written this is my absolute favorite. His use of description is great in all of his books. This one takes on a bit differen't approach to the story line. Its not the usuall hit and run or bad vs. good story. I think that if you choose any book to read this one should at least be on your list of Dean Koontz books. GO READ IT!

Summary: Koontz rules!!
Review: I absolutly loved this book!from the first time I read it in high school ten years ago, to the time I read it last summer, it hasn't lost it's touch. I have never read any author who has captured the wonderful compasion of such a simple soul, as that of a dog like Dean has. Being a dog lover, I can totally relate with much of the manorisms, and behaviors that he has described in the wonderful Einstein. Also, the beast, who only longed for the same love that the dog had all along-I found myself feeling very sorry for him, even though he was the whole familys worst enemy. I feel the whole book, cover to cover, is the best book I have ever read, and every time I read the last sentance, I cry..Call me a sap, but this book nails it. It's freakin good reading-especially if you love animals of any kind, and you appreciate a good love story too. Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of gore and suspense, but overall, I think anyone (except that one previous guy who reviewed) will really like this book.It's the BEST!!!!!!

Summary: Good Thrill Ride - Nothing New from Koontz
Review: First off, this is one of the better Koontz novels I've read. It was gripping, fast paced and an extremely good read. If you enjoy Koontz and have not read this one yet, I suggest you give it a run.
Sadly, Konntz does not explore any new ground and the typical Koontz formula is applied to Watchers with a different plot and setting. Down and out characters that are going through problematic times, ex-military is usually involved, a character has some kind of supernatural powers, a love interest is always involved - a kind of mutual healing for both characters, good vs. evil.
For Koontz' formula, this book works, if you are looking for anything new from Dean, I'm not sure where to direct you.

Summary: Grudgingly admitted - my favorite horror novel
Review: I don't read much horror, but I used to read a lot of Stephen King when I was in my 20's. However, this is still my favorite horror novel. A government experiment produces a super-smart dog as well as a smart monster, they escape, and mayhem ensues. I've only read a few of Koontz's novels, but his writing ability never ceases to impress me. Horror, sci-fi and fantasy (and probably mystery, romance...) authors are often not considered to be great writers, but that's a mistake. This book has horror, romance, action, and the special animals. One warning: the movie based on this book is TERRIBLE. I can't over-emphasize this. I think I read that Dean Koontz made them remove his name from it - that's how bad it was. The main character was changed from being 30-something to a teenager (because teens are the biggest horror movie audience), and what was perhaps even more crazy and laughable, 1 good and 1 bad
character from the book *were combined into one character in the movie*!!!
