Summary: Inman Good, Ada Bad
Review: The story started out kind of slow with Inman escaping from the hospital followed by Ada's first attempts at self-sufficiency. I thought these first chapters were pretty boring and while I was reading them I thought I was going to hate the book. Fortunately, the book picked up and started to interest me more. I like the way that Frazier splits the story into alternating chapters of Inman and Ada but I found that Inman's chapters were much more exciting than those of Ada. On more occasions than one I found myself barely holding on to the edge of consciousness trying to keep myself awake as the blurred words of Ada's chapters just swirled about the page in a large unintelligible mass. Towards the end of the book however, Ada's chapters got better and I found that I really enjoyed the book. I thought Inman's chapters were always pretty cool because he was always dodging the Home Guard, shooting things left and right, tying ministers to trees, escaping from people who were trying to shoot him while traveling down rivers with indian girls, and visiting old drunken hillbilly guys that lived in slanted houses with three-legged dogs. The ending of the book was a good one. Frazier did an excellent job at building the suspense and delivering the news to the audience even though it wasn't necessarily what they wanted to hear.

Summary: I've never been so bored as I was reading this book!
Review: When I first started to read this book it was extremely boring, I continued reading it hoping it would gradually get better. I was terribly wrong, I could not get into the book what so ever. In the middle of the book I was extremely dissapointed. If we didn't have to read it for school I would have burned it after the first chapter. The ending was a suprise though. I have never been so happy to end a book, as I was when I finished this one. This is a very good bedtime story but warning to all readers, not only will the person your reading to fall asleep but so will you!

Summary: THIS BOOK DRAGGED ON TOO LONG.
Review: COLD MOUNTAIN WAS NOT SUCH A GREAT BOOK IN MY OPINION. I BELIEVE THIS BOOK DRAGGED ON WAY TOO LONG. CHARLES FRAZIER GET TO THE POINT, IT COULD OF BEEN SHORTENED MANY AND MANY PAGES. THERE WERE MANY CHAPTERS THAT REALLY DID NOT TELL YOU MUCH EXCEPT FOR THE LOVE STORY. THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A BOOK ABOUT A MAN COMING HOME AND HAVING TO CROSS OVER COLD MOUNTAIN. I DID NOT EXPECT TO READ ABOUT A LOVE STORY. ON THE OTHER HAND THERE WERE A FEW GOOD CHAPTERS IN THIS LONG BORING BOOK. THE CHAPTER THAT I LIKED THE BEST WAS WHEN THEY HAD TO CUT WALDO THE COW UP INTO MANY PIECES SO THEY COULD GET HIM OUT OF THE RIVER. THE ONLY THING ABOUT THIS CHAPTER WAS IT WAS PRETTY PREDICTABLE.

Summary: Cold Mountain is a miracle; it should replace the bible!
Review: Charles Frazier captivates the magic of all American Literature in Cold Mountain. He carried me through with each and every sentence. I love the exquisite detail that painted a picture in my head. I also loved how Frazier split the chapters, alternating Ada with Inman. Keeping me on the edge of my seat until they would at last meet. The story was presented well and flashbacks helped me understand the relationships between the characters better. I especially liked how Inman met different characters every chapter. It was more exciting that way. Would he life or die? I don't think anyone could have written it better. By the end of the chapter I was on the edge of my seat; I wanted to see what would happen. At the same time the book was to good to finish. By the end of the story I was so into Inman and Ada that I was actually disappointed... Not even that fact could take away the genious of the story though. After a few minutes of thought I realized that Frazier was brilliant. That was the best way to end the story. Props to Charles Frazier.

Summary: I liked the book, and the ending was a real shock.
Review: I am a junior at Coventry High School, near Akron. We read Cold Mountain as a reading assignment for our College-Prep English class. It was my favorite book we read all year. I especially liked how Charles Frazier went back and forth between Inman, and Ada. I think it might have been boring if it were just from Inman's point of view, or from Ada's. I also liked how it showed the socialite Ada form Charleston turning into a farm worker with help only fom another woman, when she was used to everything being done for herself. The ending came as quite a shock to me. I wanted it to end so differently, but I still really enjoyed the ending. I liked the way the author surprised us, and did not make the ending like a book would normally end, or how we would expect it to end. At times the book did get boring, and seem to drag on though. Overall, I thought it was a good book, and really enjoyed it. I would definately recommend this book to other people, and already have.

Summary: I will definitely read again on my own!
Review: Cold Mountain is well worth reading. We just finished reading this book in my high school English class. In the beginning of the book, I thought I would despise it, but by the end I really enjoyed it! I liked how the author researched and used the words spoken during that time period. It created a powerful effect. It was cool to see the transformation of Ada: from a socialite from Charleston, to a dedicated farmer. I also thouroughly enjoyed Inman's desperate journey home. From being shot at in a boat, to being buried alive, his stories were very emotional. By the end I wanted to cry, but I knew that it was the only realistic ending possible. It made me finally realize the atmosphere created during wartime. I really liked this book, and I would definitely read it again on my own.

Summary: Cold Mountain will make you sleepy.
Review: This book was one of the most boring books I have ever read in my life. It didn't catch my attention until the very end, when I knew I wouldn't have to read it anymore. It didn't have any part that really caught my attention because I'm one who reads romance, not books about war or anything of that sort. If I had to give a recomendation, I'd say if you are lacking in sleep, read this and you'll fall asleep quickly.

Summary: i think this book should be in everyone's home
Review: I had to read this book for my junior english class in high school. i thought it was just going to be another book that the i would have to read for class. the same old stories and books, but it wasn't. i enjoyed this book emensly. it was different than any other book i had to read. i found it to be more challenging, which helped keep me in the book. i thought it was an interesting story. you really couldn't tell what was going to happen next, so it keeped you reading to find out. i kinda of felt like the ada chapters were more interesting. the action of course came from the inman chapters, but i liked the ada chapters better. it was almost like a lot of the inman chapters were the same. every chapter he met someone different and it seemed as though the inevitable would continue to happen to him. i liked the way the book keeped everything sort of vague about inman's and ada's relationship before the war. i liked how parts of their relationship was brought up a little bit at a time. when i first finished the book i was disappointed, but the more i thought about it if it ended in any other way it wouldn't have as good. overall i thought it was a really good book

Summary: An amazingly realistic portrayal of one man's journey home
Review: Cold Mountain was a real life love story with an ending more like life than any happily ever after book could ever do. It was very well written with very graphical details and story line. It almost made me cry at the end, but I'm to big of a man to cry. The ending was so perfect for a book of this high caliber, and was so good that I even recommended it to my mom who hate to read. She loved it. she usually can't stand love stories or Civil War books, byr she thought that this was an excellent book.

This is not the book to read if your not in a good mood and can't take a little sick humor, but if you are like the 99% of us normal people, then you will really enjoy this book.

Even though I was forced to read this book in my English Lit. class, I found that it was a very good book that I didn't want to set down. Mr. Jamison, my teacher must have been trying to ruin it for us, because he gave us one quiz every day and made us read them one chapter at a time.

Summary: this should be on everyones bookshelf
Review: this book was assigned to my junior class english class, and I am glad it was. i really enjoyed this book very much. at first i thought it was going to be difficult to read, but after a while the challenging vocabulary was actually fun to read. new vocabulary was just one of the things i got out of this book.anyway, the entire book was exceiting i loved every minute of it. I can however say I liked the ada chapters better than the inman chapters they seemed to go by more quickly. I did like the inman chapters dont get me wrong, I liked all the characters inman ran into and how you got to know the new people. the one thingt that definitly interested me was to realize how hard it would be to live during that time. i dont know about you but i couldn't live on apples and biscuts. anyway i could'nt tell you one story that was my favorite all the chapters were so so so good. i would have to say the most thrilling ones were toward the end, i couldn't put the book down. although i wanted inman to live happily ever after the ending was still good just not as good as i wanted it to be. even so that shouldnt stop me from reading it again.
