Summary: 2 people trying to find each other in a time of lonliness
Review: Oh my gosh, where do I start? From the begining I really didn't get into the book too much. It was a little slow and somewhat boring. I think that had to do with the reading atmosphere (class). Towards the middle though, I started to enjoy it; reading extra then what was assigned for homework. I liked the detail of Inmans war stories and the way Ada started to become a real working farm girl. In my opinion, though, I think the story would best end with the last chapter instead of the epilogue. Even though I hate when books and movies leave you hanging I think the last chapter would have left you with a better feeling than the epilogue. How depressing! As a last note I found the bear scene extreamily disturbing.

Summary: THE BOOK FROM HELL!!!!!!!
Review: First thing I would like to say is, that it was a waste of my time in and out of class. The reason it was so bad was that it dragged on and on and on with boring detail. Memo to other english teachers out there don't subject your students with this failure of a book. There was one good point about this book. It was when they encountered this group of North Carolinian hillbilies, I cracked up when I read that chapter. So props to that chapter, but the rest of the book will get no such props from me.

So all in all this book should be on the worst sellers list than the best sellers list.

Summary: My cold mountain review
Review: I didn't really like Cold Mountain that much. It was boring and stupid. I don't believe that there was a Civil War in the first place and now Charles Frazier isn't letting it go. The book had to many pointless characters and very little plot. It seems like he wrote it in his sleep. I think that Charles Frazier wrote one to many books! He should of stopped while he was ahead. But beside the fact that the book had no plot, pointless people, boring chapters, and a stupid ending, I liked the book. I probably would of had more fun diving into an empty pool then reading this book.

Summary: A student's descriptive Hell
Review: First of all I'd like to say that the book wasn't that bad but it had its spots where it got pretty rough. It also had some decent spots where it got exciting and it kept me on the edge of my seat. I think when Frazier wrote this he was writing maybe about himself, like he was depressed about losing his spouse. First off the bad spots. Many times he just dragged some of the little details out so far that it was a dissapointment when he got to the point. My personnal opinion was that the Ada chapters were somewhat fillers for the book. The good thought was Inman's chapters. This was the comic relief and the action of the book which kept you reading on and wondered what happened next. So I guess all in all it was a 50% like and dislike.

Summary: From a peach pit to plates
Review: Cold Mountain is a well written description on the other effects of war. A love that was denied the chance to prosper. A journey through the heart and mind. A kind of time when everything ceased to live, just exist. The ending is not meant to be a ordinary ending. I can't imagine everything being ok in a time of war, where nothing is normal. Do you actually think nothing bad would ever happen? That people would not be able to return to their loved ones. Our generation is blessed with not having to experience a war. How can we know the effects of a war? Our generation is wearing blinders!

Summary: I almost didn't get past the first chapter.
Review: I would've given this book a 9 or 10 if I wasn't forced to read it for English class. I can't enjoy a book, when I have to remember EVERY detail. This book was 99.9% detail!!! I got lost with what was going on, the descriptions were in my way. It took a while to actually get into the story. I eventually did, though. I liked the story, until the end. It was a big let-down. The book wasn't written to be a fairy tale. It definitely wasn't "Happily Ever After." And, I wasn't happy after I read it. I think it was written to be a reality, and that it was. Overall, I pretty much enjoyed the book. Even though I had my heart set on a different ending, it was still a good book. It really showed how difficult, but more simple, life was so long ago.

Summary: Cold Mountain
Review: The book had times when you didn't want to put it down. But, it also had times that you could not wait to close it, and go to bed. Some nights I dreaded having to read only 25 pages, it was like pulling teeth. It seemed to drag on and on. The chapters at the end of the book were the best. I guess I rated it kind of high for what I mostly thought of the book. The only reason why I wanted to read it, was because of where the Auther was from. I had to read the book for an English class. Most people think it would be a bad book to read in class. It was not all that bad.

Summary: "Why Me"
Review: Great story;Good plot;but hard to read. Through out the entire book you get the picture that a movie was coming. The movie will more than likely sum the whole book up in an hour. The overly descriptive writing style really helps the book flow along. At times when theplot is thick Frazier ruins the moment with a descrtiption of something that nobody wants to know about. Your waiting for the all inmportant line when he lets down with another detail. The ending of a Civil War book is usually predictable but in this case he catches you completely by surprise. He would have had to do somrthing different if he wanted to sell a book. I give a five! Good effort on the part of Charles Frazier, But on the contrary, too hard for a relaxing and enjoyable experience. P.S. only read it for the credit in class! END

Summary: The best lullaby ever written.
Review: This book bored me. I would never have finished it, if I didn't have to for class. Anytime I had trouble sleeping read a page and my problem was solved. The first half was dull no attention grabbing anything it was all boring detail. The book finally got a little better at the end. The ending I think was written the best was it could have been.

Summary: Taste it for yourself
Review: I relished every sumptuous flavor of Cold Mountain. It's to be indefinately imbedded on my mind, the travels of inman and his thoughts on the journey. The book made more clear to me the fragility of life and it's lack of appreciation for it that is so common. To think humans come to deal with death as any other daily happening wrenches my stomach into parts. You see, the war aspect is what touched me in a repulsive way. Yet, it is a realistic way of viewing things I suppose. I did really enjoy the movie perfect description of all the goings on throughout the book. I think that reading Cold Mountain can be comparable to a jouney through one's inner self. I know other books that are that way but this one is beyond. However, nothing I say is of any relivance because everyone should read books for themselves. We all make different relations to events, thoughts, and feelings expressed by the characters. So, what is my recommendation? Reach for the nearest copy of Cold Mountain and write your own review after tasting the delicacies of Robert Frazier's mind.
