Rating: Summary: GET THIS ONE BUT FIRST ON AUDIO! Review: Okay, I don't particulary like King. You go through about 5 horrible books before you get a good one. Also have you noticed his good books don't translate well to the screen? And King makes remarks about persons with disabilities that bother me BUT..This book was outstanding. If you don't buy the audio version you will miss out on a treat of a lifetime. If I'm wrong Ill buy you lunch.
Rating: Summary: Second only to The Stand Review: Stephen King has done it again. I really enjoyed Hearts of Atlantis. The only drawback I could find was that I felt the story of "Blind Willie" was cut short. Perhaps Mr. King will expand upon him in a revised and longer edition of "Hearts" as he did with "Trashcan Man" in The Stand. One can only hope. Thank you Stephen for many enjoyable hours of reading.
Rating: Summary: Excellent story, beautiful (and ugly) descriptions Review: After finishing HIA, my daughter caught me crying and asked why? I had to tell her that this book made me remember guys who couldn't escape the draft by grades or being too young. King's story telling will make you fall in love with a character, even though they are never truly, physically described.
Rating: Summary: Ok...... Review: Ok, this book is good, and proves old SK can write more than just horror, but the thing is, I kinda like his horror better. Not to say this book is bad, it's not. It's just that, well, Steve should just stick to his old supernatural roots. And the references to the "Dark Tower" series were stupid and unnessecary, that'll throw some readers off.
Rating: Summary: Love & Peace = Information Review: Hearts in Atlantis continues the evolution of King's literary genius that began with Bag of Bones. It's an evocative collection of stories about a time that does seem like fiction now (the author's disclaimer to the contrary notwithstanding). Yet there are enough of King's trademarked cross-references and creepy things to please the lovers of his early works. I loved this book -- it really took me back to the 60's -- the innocence and the heartbreak. If you are a fan, you will love it too. If you're not a fan, buy it anyway because it's simply a wonderful story.
Rating: Summary: Stephen King, the Serious Author Review: Stephen King is one of the few authors who makes the transition between the supernatural and realism so smoothly. I'm not real sure what I was expecting, but I really enjoyed this book. He continues to grow as a writer. This is in another league for him. Terrific book.
Rating: Summary: The most touching book SK has ever written. Review: I just finished "Heart of Atlantis." It was not at all what I expected from Stephen King. I expected horror and chills. What I got was the most touching, heart-wrenching book I've read in a long time. If you are a low-level SK fan, you will probably be disappointed. If you read King, as I do, for the sheer beauty of the man's talent, this book will surpass your wildest expectations. Fifty or a hundred years from now, Stephen King will be required reading in high school, the way Edgar Allen Poe is now. This book is one of the reasons why. No, it wasn't what I expected...it was much more.
Rating: Summary: The Battle of Good v. Evil continues ... Review: and King is still the King. Baby boomers will enjoy this collection -- related stories that hopscotch through lives of different characters. Yes, (to Author's Note) it is difficult to believe that the 60s are not fictional - and there is so much more out there. A sequel? Please? I'd love the SK "spin" on the Cuban Missile Crisis, the assassinations, The Cold War. I was struck by the fact that students today have to worry about drugs, gunmen (many produced by our generation); students coming of age in the 60s were focused on nuclear annihilation and fighting an unfathomable war; and our parents' generation was traumatized by Hitler. Pure, powerful evil, whichever generation you come from -- it is the same battle. These are awesome tales that allow the reader to crawl into someone else's head in true SK style. Actually, I'm prepared to pre-order the music CD. Soon?
Rating: Summary: Astonishing Review: Absolutely astonishing. I just finished the book and am completely numb with admiration for King's sheer storytelling power. And I mean POWER. This book fairly glows with it. Sure, there are some minor points that I could be fussy about, but to nitpick stories of this quality would be like throwing mud at the Statue Of Liberty. You may dirty it up a little, but by God it's still the Statue of Liberty, isn't it? Forgive me for babbling. Maybe I should go cool off after finishing "Hearts In Atlantis." I envy those of you who haven't read it yet. You are in for a treat.
Rating: Summary: KING'S BEST WORK YET! A CLASSIC! Review: Hearts of Atlantis weaves a poignant tale tracing the lives of 60's children to the present day. A rich commentary on the human condition, social values, and especially meaningful to those of us who lived through these years. An epic tale at King's best. I couldn't put it down.
