Summary: I wish I was Santiago...
Review: The main character, named Santiago, goes on a journey where he discovers how to be one with the world. He finds his purpose in life, with the help of an old man, and he follows through with his course of action, no matter what happens. The only problem I had with this book was its applicability. I liked the story, and I think Coelho makes a good point to look out for signs in life. But as far as how I felt after I finished the book, I was wishing that I had not read it. I am easily inspired, and this book can be inspiring. But to do what? Drop everything in your life to pursue your dreams? That is what I would like to do, but I have a common problem that is called obligations. The book made me feel like if I didn't drop everything and do something now, I would be eternally unhappy. However, if you are not easily inspired, the story will leave you with happy memories. I recommend it.

Summary: the alchemist
Review: The Prologue from the book, The Alchemist...
The Alchemist picked up a book that someone in
the caravan had brought. Leafing through the pages,
he found a story about Narcissus.
The alchemist knew the legend of Narcissus, a youth
who daily knelt beside a lake to contemplate his own beauty.
He was so fascinated by himself that, one morning, he fell
into the lake and drowned. At the spot where he fell, a flower
was born, which was called the narcissus.
But this was not how the author of the book ended the
story.
He said that when Narcissus died, the Goddesses of the
Forest appeared and found the lake, which had been fresh
water, transformed into a lake of salty tears.
"Why do you weep?" the Goddesses asked.
"I weep for Narcissus," the lake replied.
"Ah, it is no surprise that you weep for Narcissus," they
said, "for though we always pursued him in the forest, you
alone could contemplate his beauty close at hand."
"But..... was Narcissus beautiful?" the lake asked.
"Who better than you to know that?" the Goddesses said
in wonder, "After all, it was by your banks that he knelt each
day to contemplate himself!!"
The lake was silent for some time.
Finally it said:
"I weep for Narcissus, but I never noticed that Narcissus
was beautiful. I weep because, each time he knelt beside my
banks, I could see, in the depths of his eyes, my own beauty
reflected."
"What a lovely story," the alchemist thought.

Summary: Wonderful, simple story! Pure pleasure!
Review: This is one of the best books I've ever listened to. And that's saying alot since I drive 20 hours a week and listened to books almost constantly. The author's writing style is very simple and direct which is such a delight. So many writers today get wrapped up in trying to find "tastier" words to describe very simple ideas or actions. I recommend this book whole heartily.

Summary: An inspiring book that will change the way you look at life
Review: This is the first Paulo Coelho book that i have read, though i have heard very good reviews regarding 'veronica decides to die'. Well what can I say it is excellent. It doesn't take to long to understand the message the book is trying to get across.

The message is this;

If you have a dream or destiny that you want to achieve then pursue it and listen to your heart. No matter what obstacles get in your way don't let them stop you and get you down, overcome them and keep going. The path you take is part of that experience and only strengthens you in pursuit of your dreams and destiny.

If you put your mind to it anything is possible as longs as your dreams are good at heart, whether it being the job you've always wanted or the girl of your dreams.

I've read this over a couple of months ago and it's changed the belief in myself and what i can do.
