Summary: No Legal Stuff!
Review: I always been under impression that Bleachers like any John Grisham would be a Legal stuff but to my surprize the book had a say of broken dreams, reunion and emotionally twined tale with regrets. Neely Crenshaw comes back to the town after a long gap when his former Football coach was on death bed. He meets the football members and each has a say on their ups and downs. Past memories reel back to Neely as he meets all players and visits places in the town where he'd been a Hero. The sports spirit revives as all of them consoled another and past mistakes were forgiven. After the death of the Coach, the players depart and go their own life's normal ways. An unlike John Grisham but a pleasant surprize as the Pick is quite Good for a Read, esp if you are a Sports fan.

Summary: Disappointing Grisham
Review: I'm a big fan of John Grisham but this book strays from his traditional writing. There are no courtroom dramas. Gone is the suspense that you can usually expect when picking up a Grisham novel. In this book former football players come together in a small town to await the inevitable death of their former coach, a man who was loved and hated. They wait in the bleachers, discussing their triumphs and their sorrows that were shared with every member of the town each time the team hit the field. They console each other in an effort to forgive the past mistakes and move on to the future. Although this book was well written, it would have been more meaningful if I were a sports fan. It was a very short book and for that, I was grateful. Grisham is an excellent author, making it possible for me to even finish the book; but I hope that he returns to the courtroom in his next venture.

Summary: Give me a break!
Review: I am not a fan of Grisham. The only reason I read this book was that it was the monthly selection in my book club. What this book did was confirm my belief that Grisham is an over-rated writer who can't develop a character or a story line if the fate of the world depended upon it. Give me a break. Didn't everyone want to shake Neely and tell him to get a life. Don't waste your money or your time.

Summary: Bleachers
Review: In Bleachers Neely Crenshaw comes back to his home town, Messina. He was a hero to the people in the town, and a famous high school quarterback. Everyone in the town loved football. They loved the coaches and the players. His old football coach, Eddie Rake, was dying, and Neely was coming back to see him, and everyone else in the town. Throughout the book, Neely was reliving old football memories with is former players and waiting for the coach to die. He was also seeing old friends, and old girlfriends. He went to old restaurants, and old shops around town. He came back to his old life.

Why doesn't Neely like to talk about the old football stories? Most of the former players on the team are all sitting on the bleachers of Rake Field reliving old football memories. They would ask Neely about something he did in a game, and he didn't really answer. " 'How did you stay in the game after being hit like that?' 'I don't know'"(Grisham 36).
Bleachers is a good title for this book. In this book, all of the football players Rake had coached, where all back in town waiting for him to die. They were all in the bleachers of Rake Field. The story mainly took place in the bleachers. " ' We have a lot of memories from this field, and these bleachers'" (Grisham 45).
This story was a good sports story. All of the old football players came back to decide if they loved or hated their old football coach, as he was dying. They relived old football stories, saw old friends, and had a good time. Their coach died and it was a sad funeral. After the funeral, they all went back to normal lives.

Summary: Not the best
Review: This is the first Grisham novel I've read in years. I used to read many of his legal thrillers till I figured out they were all the same. So, I decided to tackle this. Some of the dialogue is trite and unnatural. The story tends to be sappy in places. I felt like I was supposed to be crying, but I never got that emotionally involved with the characters.

The basic idea is something that most of us can relate to, but there needed to be more character development.

Summary: A quick, entertaining read
Review: John Grisham's tale of a dieing High School football coach, his players, and his town is one of the best stories I have ever read. Grisham develops fantastic charecters. The story focuses on Neely Crenshaw, a former all-american that has to come to terms with his coach and his old sweethart. I love the way Grisham generates emotion with players from different generations telling their stories about coach Rake. This is one great book and it only took me two days to read.

Summary: true but sad
Review: In bleachers there is a small town that is all about its high school football team. All of the townspeople love the legendary coach but many of the players who come back for the coaches awaited death have mixed feelings about the coach. It focuses on certain players from a certain team in 1987.
To start i was a high school football player and this staory almost mirrored my situation. The main character was a quarterback who struggled with his view on his coach. I went through that my whole highschool career. This book made me wonder if this happens at all high school football programs.
Another big reason i like this book was because of all of the other related situations and characters to the main story. It showed many different perspectives from many different people. It really shows John Grisham was a high school football player because i know noone else could have written and referred to these situations without having gone through it.

Summary: I enjoyed it!
Review: Everyone seems to be up in arms lately (well, for the past five years or so) over Grisham's style and subject changes. Give the guy a break! He writes darn good books--in every genre--and is miles ahead of most other authors out there! I highly recommend this book!!!

Also recommend: The Firm, Bark of the Dogwood, A Painted House

Summary: A HIT, AFTER TOW STRIKES OUT OF THE COURTHOUSE
Review: Seems like Grisham finally did it, after tow disappointing novels out of the legal world in which he became a master, he finally wrote a good novel that has nothing to do with the legal system. Bleachers is a story of lost hero's, of the good old times, of regret and the human condition.

Summary: Odd man out
Review: I'm probably the one person who is a fan of Grisham's "literary" novels, and not his legal thrillers. I found "A Painted House" and "Skipping Christmas" to be great reads, but could have passed on some of his courtroom dramas. Not that they aren't good, but rather that I like my "Southern genre" to be just that. And for me, "Bleachers" falls somewhere in the middle. That said, I liked it equally as much as "House" or "Christmas." I found the writing to be excellent in this tale, and yes, it did remind me of "The Junction Boys" but that aside, it stands on its own and it well worth the money spent. Do yourself a favor and buy it! Would also recommend two other great books I've read lately. McCrae's "The Bark of the Dogwood" and a book called "Little Children." Though both are nothing like "Bleachers" they're still great reads.
