Rating: Summary: One of best written on the subject Review: My 22-year-old son was diagnosed with ADD freshman year of high school after four years of anguish and frustration with all the educators and specialists who missed the problem. That was in 1991 and thankfully awareness has increased. Unfortunately some professtionals especially teachers still think you have to be hyperactive to have ADD. After my personal experience I have become an occupational therapist working in a school-based practice. This is one book I always suggest to parents.
Rating: Summary: Finally a book a lay person could understand... Review: I felt that this book was easy to read and understand. Sometimes doctors try to explain something but use so many medical terms that a lay person like me has hard time following along. However, this book was very helpful as far as helping me understand where by son is and why he is struggling to fit in. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn more about add/adhd, it is very educational.
Rating: Summary: Awesome book. The best so far Review: It helps that the Dr.s have it but this book was the first step to me gaining my sanity. The character Jim was almost exactly me. I am now seeking treatment. Thank you!
Rating: Summary: Must-read for people dealing with an ADDer who is in denial Review: My boyfriend and I met 12 years ago, but we started dating only two years ago. About two months into our relationship, I started experiencing some very exasperating moments with him and it dawned on me that he had ADD. I had only heard about ADD in the mid-80s, with all the big magazine cover stories. Ever since my observation, I have been begging him to get intervention, but he is in major denial. He has promised at times, forgotten at other times (typical) and been rebellious other times. He recently left me in my time of need (typical) for no good reason. With the loss of me, he is finally willing to get the inventory and listen to the doctor that will say that ADD causes relational dischord and treating it can save our relationship. WITHOUT THIS BOOK, I would feel a lot crazier and be a lot more depressed. This book is an easy read, with valuable charts and lists and covers just about EVERY thought I've had on the subject. My friend went out with someone who had ADD. She said she started thumbing through this book while her boyfriend was in the shower one day and she didn't stop reading until she finished it. So get this book, and see a counselor so the counselor can refer the ADDer to a good doctor for an inventory. Good luck.
Rating: Summary: Written for the ADD reader. It's Great! Review: Written for and by people with ADD. It is practical, easy to read and able to hold the attention of the most distractable.
Rating: Summary: I've read several books on ADD: this one outpaces the others Review: After learning I had ADD, at age 45, I read all I could get my hands on. This book is more enjoyable, more informative, more true to life...less demeaning than anything else I have read. Dr. Hallowell uses lifes encounters as a method to help explain every facet of ADD that he describes. ADD is depicted as an adventure rather than one of lifes meladies we must endure. An easy read, well worth it for all family members.

Rating: Summary: Excellent resource, very easy to read and understand!!! Review: I am a MFCC intern working with children and adolescents with ADD and also have relatives with ADD. I cannot express how wonderful this book is. It's so easy to read and it's very informative and filled with great factual information as well as case studies. I learned a lot from this book and find it to be one of the most helpful books on this subject. It should be the textbook in schools for those learning about this subject!
Rating: Summary: Gives new meaning to "We Are Not Alone" Review: This superbly compiled work was actually used by an M.D. as a substantial part of the dignostic process in evaluating possible ADD syndrome. Having read many self-help books trying to deal with personal trials and foibles, this book HIT HOME! Written by two psychologists who personally experience the frustrations of living with adult ADD, this title made for compelling reading. Imagine finding a description of yourself on every other page!!?? Concise, but personable case studies reveal numerous commonalities amongst ADDers. Rounded out with a detailed history of the discovery of ADD, the research pioneers, treatment plans, hope for the future, and a well thought out section on Resources, including support groups, newsletters, etc. Just Read It!
