Summary: Can be Overwhelming for the Average Parent
Review: As someone who has been involved with ADD and ADHD kids and adults for many years, I found this book to be very helpful in dealing with the issue. However it is a very long read and can be technical for the average person to read.
If you are not involved with ADD/ADHD this is not the place to start. Having said that, I feel that this book is an excellent reference source for those who understand the basics of the disorder.

Summary: A good resource after you know an ADD diagnosis
Review: Good summary of how to cope with your ADD as an adult. However, it would be best if you know already whether ADD is a likely diagnosis before you read this book. Then, and only then, should you read "Driven to Distraction" by Hallowell and Ratey, both MDs. They have a good listing of ADD characteristics and many useful tips, presented concisely, but their initial presentation is case studies. I believe that ADDers may not have the patience to read through that, as I well know. I also recommend "You Mean I'm Not Lazy, Stupid or Crazy" by Kelly and Ramundo as the best first reader for adults trying to investigate their own ADD possibility. Thanks to all authors who help those with ADD!

Review: I found helpful information for my daughter who exhibited ADD from environmental aggravants. This book and The A.D.D. and A.D.H.D. Diet book, helped me get to the root of the problem and eliminate the causes of her ADD.

Summary: Understandable for the lay person
Review: As a teacher in a small Catholic school, a mother with a son with ADD and a Masters in Special Education I have recommended this book many times for parentst to read and think about whether their child might have ADD. The list of questions is wonderful in helping diagnose an older child with ADD. This is what I used for my son and the book and the companion book have been immeasurably helpful.

Review: While I was reading this book, the light came on! Having always thought I was ADD, but never knowing, when I read the case studies, and the descriptions of the different types of ADD, things just clicked, and answers started to come to me. If you aren't sure and need to know this is the book for you.

Summary: A positive book for all those who are connected to ADD/ADHD
Review: This book was the first I ever read about my disability of ADD. I found myself really relating to all the case studies. It was comforting to know that the authors themselves had personally struggled with this disorder. It was like reading all the thoughts I was never able to put down into words. I also asked my parents to read this book. I helped them understand me on a level they were never able to before. The book points out many positives that people with this disoder can gain. Its easy for anyone to understand. Whether you yourself are connected to the disorder or want to understand it from the outside looking in, you will benefit from this book.

Review: While many ADD books are filled with froth and fluff, and others are littered with mantras about accepting ADD in our life but, "Driven to Distraction" actually is useful. Buy it now before you forget. From descriptions about what is and is not ADD, to incredibly informative thoughts on ways of managing ADD's pitfalls and positives, this book is the one to buy. Anyone with ADD welcomes every aspect of it, and most of us would trade it for a dollar. However, Hallowell and Ratey manage to dispel the malarkey about ADD being a handicap, and provide case studies which will remind you of many of your own experiences. Great for a dear friend or mate to read to understand ADD, and how to be a better friend or spouse. Let me recommend also, "Managing Attention & Learning Disorders : Super Survival Strategies" by Elaine McEwan and "Uncommon Gifts : Transforming Learning Disabilities into Blessing" by James Stewart Evans. I fully recommend "Driven to Distraction : Recognizing and Coping With Attention Deficit Disorder from Childhood Through Adulthood." Anthony Trendl
