Summary: Democrat No More
Review: Sen. Miller was available to autograph my book when I purchased it. I told him I had been a lifelong Democrat who became a Republican for the reasons he touches on in his book. He said that he may be following me in the near future. I commented that I had recently repudiated my support for Jimmy Carter by returning my autographed picture. He made no response and I learned he had a lingering admiration and loyalty for Carter. I felt better when Jimmy publicly condemned Sen. Miller a few weeks later. For Jimmy loyalty is not a two way street.

Summary: So , if this is a national party, sushi is our national dish
Review: A National Party No More is a book, without a doubt, that all of the Democratic Presidential candidates should read pronto. Will they? Of course not. And if they did, they would merely scoff at the Zell Miller prescription for their malady of histrionics and rampant liberalism.

Zell Miller, to his credit, possesses a most laudable nobility that is rarely seen in Washington. Miller, unlike virtually all politicians, is a man who speaks, and more importantly, votes, his conscience. Miller served admirably as Governor here in Georgia as he fulfilled his campaign objectives of tax cuts for economic growth, the seminal HOPE scholarship, a Pre-K program, the only 2 strikes law for violent offenders in the nation, as well as more than tripling the amount of land set aside for state parks in the beautiful state of Georgia.

Miller, as he writes in this eye-opening treatise, explains how it is not he who has changed - but rather the Democratic Party itself. Miller, who listened to FDR's inspiring fireside chats with his mother as a youngster and sided with JFK's message of a strong national defense and lower taxes, has always voted Democrat and has always believed in good, old-fashioned family values - the same values the current Democrats shun like the plague.

The Democrats, so irrevocably beholden to unscrupulous PACs and their extreme left wing agenda, don't have a clue as to the depths of the chasm of venality into which they have sunk. They have fallen so far out of mainstream America it would take a search party to find them. Miller, never one to mince words, says of Howard Dean: "He likes to say he belongs to the Democratic wing of the Democratic Party, but I say he belongs to the whining wing of the Democratic Party. Angry and red-faced, these doom-and-gloomers need to take some 'calm-me-down' pills."
2004 is all but won for President Bush. Once again, just as in 2000, the Democrats will fail in their futile attempt to win even one Southern state.

Summary: Don't get zell
Review: Don't be foolish enough or gullibe enough to believe zell miller is a democrat. He's a republican. He's conservative. If he still believes he's a democrat he better wake up and realize that this isnt the 1940's. The party has evolved and if zell don't like it he can very well leave!!!

Summary: Zigzag Zell is at it agan
Review: Zell was a segregationist in 1964 and worked for the racist Lester Maddox from 1966 to 1970. Later he was moderate to liberal denouncing the first Bush for being rich in 1992. Now he is goo goo eyed over the young Bush.

Zell says JFK carried Georgia becuase he was for a strong defense and was not a tax hiker. In 1964 LBJ lost Georgia, though he did not raise taxes and certainly was no dove. What happened? The Civil Rights Act!!!!

What Zell is afraid to face is the fact that southern whites left the Democrats when Blacks got civil rights. Its called racism and Miller is in denial about this. Cant seem to accept the role of race in changing the South. This blindess weakens his analysis.

Summary: TRAITOR TO HIS PARTY
Review: Zell Miller is making money off this book by being a traitor to his own party, he should just go ahead and admit he's a republican.

Summary: Great read
Review: This books has a lot to offer. It's straightforward. Make no mistake, this guy is a Democrat, but more like a John F. Kennedy or a Bill Clinton in political views. He belongs in the Democratic Leadership Council (for those of you who don't know, it was the conservative Democrat organization that Bill Clinton led before becoming Prez).

So he talks about those beliefs, those beliefs he's had for life, and why the Democrats can't win the South without them. He calls them the values of America, the middle-25% of America, that is, and that unless the Democratic party comes back to the center, it will be a National Party No More. A great read. A little long, but a lot to say. I reccomend it.

Summary: From the Ridiculous to the Bizarre
Review: I agree with a previous reviewer who said that it must have been the publisher who came up with the title. It's a sexed-up title to sell more books and make Zell and his publisher more money.

A national party no more??? The Democrats won the Presidency in 1992 and 1996, barely lost in the electoral college in 2000, and actually won the popular vote in 2000. You could at least wait until the Democrats have lost four presidential elections in a row before you try to assert that they'll be a national party no more. Zell likes conservative policies better than liberal ones. That's all he can rightfully assert. Trying to draw some kind of sweeping conclusion about the Democratic party's future as a national party is ridiculous.

Summary: Sen. Zell Miller
Review: This was an interesting memoir. Senator Miller has definitely had an exciting life, and was fortunate enough to be involved in some of the most important issues of our times. His dedication and public service are definitely worth admiring, as is his candor regarding his views on civil rights. (He was a segregationist early on, much to his everlasting shame, his views have since changed) However, he is a REPUBLICAN. He states over and over that he was born a Democrat, and will always be one. Yet he consistently votes with Republicans. There is nothing wrong with this, but I don't see why he isn't a Republican.
But that is a complaint with the Senator, not his book. Anyone interested in current events should read it, and it contains some great stories and insights.

Summary: Former State of Maine Democrat
Review: This book illustrates in many ways (not all) why I took umbrage
at the Democratic Party in my home state of Maine where I was born and reside.
The Democratic party has narrowed it's focus to the point I, as a practicing Catholic, felt more and more alienated. The best illustration of this in New England was the defection of Mayor Flynn of Boston from the party.
Senator Miller has rung the alarm bell to moderate and conservative democrats. This issue goes beyond geographic areas and will surely spill into the remainder of the country as more and more must make a choice.
God Bless him, he just might help save the party.
I have recommended this book to my college age daughters who take their political views seriously. (not mine by the way)

Summary: On the right track
Review: Okay, since politics & sex seem to be the hot topics these days, this book and 'the nice guys' guide to getting girls' are definitely my all-time favorite books. Senator Miller is right on ttrack with his analysis and criticism of the Democratic party. I admire Miller's courage for being up front, especially just before the presidential election year. The Democrats have drifted away too far from the values and ideals of most Americans and if they don't change, it may be too late. If you love politics, or even just our country, this is a great book. Much praise to Senator Miller for this book!
