Summary: I loved this book
Review: This is a truly a masterpiece. The characters and the plot is simply astounding. It tells a story about the lives of two people through a series of episodes. I found this book entertaining, and a good book to pick up on a rainy afternoon. Any day as a matter of fact. A wonderful journey, which is recommended for anyone to enjoy. Also recommended is "Don't Call That Man", and "He Never Called Again". Back to the book, "The Time Traveler's Wife", read it, it's quite fascinating.

Summary: Written Against the Grain
Review: "The Time Traveler's Wife" is an inspirational piece of literature. The author takes on the challenge of writing in an unconventional manner in regards to story development. Beyond the kudos due for taking on the challenge of writing in a grain not normally visited in modern literature, I applaud the author for succeeding in this quest and creating a sweeping epic of with literary gusto.

The author combines elements of a multitude of popular styles typified in "The Secret Life of Bees," "The Fortress of Solitude," "The Lovely Bones," "Life of Pi," and "My Fractured Life" and wraps them up in an all encompassing cross genre style that bridges these literary worlds with tremendous panache. The writing is fully unique, but will appeal to connoisseurs of fiction, modern literature, and postmodern literature.

Summary: Wonderful!
Review: It seemed like it would be all sci-fi.. but it was just a wonderful love story! I DEF would recommend it!

Summary: Amusing and FUN!
Review:
The book jacket describes the story as a love story about a man (Henry) and his wife (Clare). However, their tale is unusual. Henry has a genetic disorder that results in him being temporarily misplaced in time. Yes, you heard me right, he time travels. The problem is that he can't control it. Clare finds herself being suddenly left in the present while Henry travels through time, backwards and forwards, and sometimes meets her in her past. They first meet when Clare is six and Henry is thirty-six, and they get married when Clare is twenty-three and Henry is thirty-one.

Confused yet? Though the time travel element is an unusual twist, don't let it deter you from reading this novel. It is handled very well, and I didn't have much of a problem following the story (regardless of the time flashbacks, etc). In fact, I personally found that the time traveling created really interesting conflicts for the characters, and even though the source of the conflicts is based on fantasy, the conflicts themselves are very real. Anyone who has been in love would be able to relate to the strong feelings these characters have for each other and the difficulty that Clare has with being periodically left behind.

This story is written alternately from both Henry and Clare's point of view. The author uses a simple introduction of either "Henry:" or "Clare:" at the beginning of each chapter to indicate whose perspective the reader is sharing. Though I found this a little strange at first, it is easy to get used to and after a while I became so engrossed in the story that it all flowed very naturally. The trials and tribulations of these characters and the intensity of the love that they share are all very real. You will feel for them, you will cry for them, and you will be very sorry to part with them at the end of the novel. I highly recommend that you pick up this book --but be aware that it may be hard to put down. In addition to this tome, I also recommend another much shorter, oddly popular book (which my son actually passed along to me!) THE LOSERS' CLUB: Complete Restored Edition! by Richard Perez, another kind of love story.

Summary: Ho Hum, couldn't finish it
Review: The writing is competent, but after 150 pages, it comes down to "so what?" I get it, the guy is a time traveler. Unfortunately nothing much of interest happens during Henry's comings and goings. Five hundred pages of this stuff (Claire is 13, Henry is 43; Claire is 23, Henry is 31) is way too much. It might have worked at half the length, if -- and it's a big if -- a compelling story was also being told. Life is too short to read boring 500 page books. If time travel interests you, read Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut.

Summary: Escher would have like it, you will, too.
Review: M.C. Escher said "I can't stop fooling around with our irrefutable certainties." To say he'd enjoy this, too, is an understatement. Niffeneger challenges one of our most revered irrefutable certainties, that time is linear and one can only be here, now. That fun, a character who involutarily travels through time, and his lifelong love are the centerpieces to this tale. Henry, the time-traveling librarian, and Clair, the love of his life, are intertwined in both time and spirit in the most appealing ways. Henry has to deal with both the benefits and risks of his unplanned traveling, in which he arrives in a time and place he cannot always identify, and without any worldly possessions (or attire!). The themes of being different than most folks, or loving someone different, work well and are comfortable to a reader who feels thus. (And is there anyone else in the world?) Very cleverly done, bending even the normal rules of time travel fantasy, that one cannot be in the same place at the same time if traveling. Strongly drawn main characters, some quirky support, and the fascinating time travel scenario blend most enjoyably and smoothly. Tough to imagine anyone's NOT liking it.

Summary: A compelling story of love and loss
Review: "The Time Traveler's Wife" is one of the most amazing books I've read in a long time. It chronicles the romance of Henry and Claire, who appear to be a normal, happy couple on the outside, but something about Henry makes their relationship very unique. Henry suffers from a condition called chrono-displacement disorder, which means that he occasionally disappears and involuntarily time-travels into his past and, every so often, into his future.

Audrey Niffenegger does an incredible job of sequencing the events of the book (which jump around as often as Henry time-travels) in a way that is clear and enthralling to the reader. The narration of the book also alternates between Henry and Claire's points of view, giving us deep insight into both of these remarkable characters.

As a science fiction novel and also one of the greatest modern love stories written to date, "The Time Traveler's Wife" blends intense character study with charm, cleverness, and raw emotion. The reader will laugh and cry as Henry and Claire experience the "normal" challenges that people face in relationships, as well as the constant uncertainty that time travel brings into their lives (and in some cases, absolute certainty about a future that cannot be altered).

I enjoyed reading this book very much, and it is definitely a book that I recommend to everyone.

Summary: Pleasant surprise
Review: In The Time Traveler's Wife, Audrey Niffenegger tells a touching love story with a new twist. Henry DeTamble is a librarian who suffers from a genetic disorder that causes him to shift backward and forward through time...no wait I'm not going to tell you more because I want every aspect of this book to be as much of a pleasant surprise to you as it was to me. Of course the premise is a stretch but sit back and enjoy a well written and convincing tale of love and human behavior. You won't be disappointed!

Summary: unique and beautiful
Review: i could not stop reading this book. i read it sitting down, standing up, walking around the house--i dreamed the characters during the three nights between the time i picked it up and the time i reluctantly reached the end. sure, it's a love story, but the characters are beautifully and realistically rendered--it is as much a story of Henry and Clara as individuals, growing up and getting older, as it is about Henry and Clara together. don't expect it to make sense all at once--that's part of what makes it so yummy.
