Rating: Summary: STRONG PLOT - FILLED WITH SUSPENSE Review: Those who read "1st To Die" will want to follow up by reading "2nd Chance." Actually, "2nd Chance" is packed with a lot more suspense, power and punch than the book where we first encountered the Women's Murder Club. While the plot in this particular book was superb and the overall thrill lasted from start to finish, I found the characters stood well alone, but placed together in the "Murder Club", they came across as immature, over-zealous teenagers. The dialogue and actions were just a little too unrealistic and child-like to carry much weight. The book did live up to expectations when it came time to deliver riveting, edge-of-you-seat suspense; however, I do wish Patterson would come back to the Alex Cross series. Fans of the Cross series are patiently and avidly waiting for his return.
Rating: Summary: 2nd Is Even Better Than The 1st Review: The second installment in the Women's Murder Club series is a fast-paced page-turner. Even better than 1st To Die (and that is saying something), it is full of clever plot twists that will keep you off balance until the end. In this installment, we get to know Lindsay (now Lt. Boxer) and the other women better and learn more about their personal lives, while going along on this exciting and sometimes nerve-wracking serial killer investigation. Another very entertaining read from Mr. Patterson. Can't wait for the 3rd in the series!
Rating: Summary: Much Better than Violets are Blue Review: I was beginning to worry about James Patterson. After a few great books early on in the Alex Cross series, the quality of his work had started to drop off significantly. It looks now, however, that he has turned his efforts to writing about the Women's Murder Club. Is he getting tired of writing Alex Cross? Tough to tell. One thing is certain - 2nd Chance is a fine read. The plot of the novel is similar to that of 1st to Die. Of course, there is a different killer, different murders, and different methods, but the basis of the book remains the same - 4 women - a cop, an assistant D.A., a medical examiner, and a reproter - get together to solve a series of killings that seemingly no one else can. The differing professions of the women allow Patterson to bring detail to the reader that would otherwise be tough to introduce. For example, Claire, the M.E., discovers that one of the victims has tattooed skin under her nails. Each character brings their own talents and insights to the investigation. Another glaring difference frequent Patterson readers will notice about 2nd Chance is that the author is much more attentive to character development in this series than he has been with the Alex Cross series. Each character has personality strengeths and flaws and Patterson illustraits them in detail. One deals with a pregnancy while Cindy becomes involved with a minister. By allowing the reader to feel personally connected with his characters, Patterson only makes the story that much more exciting. Highly recommended to anyone who liked 1st to Die or books from the Alex Cross series.
Rating: Summary: Diaappointed-- Review: This book was not up to the standards I expect from Patterson. The plot is simplistic and predictable. I will look forward tohis next and KNOW it will be better--it couldn't be worse!!
Rating: Summary: From down under Review: Living down under does have it advantages such as 2nd Chance being released here a few days ago. A much waited for sequel which was consumed in one sitting on the weekend and even better I was not disappointed. It is fantastic and James Patterson has done it again. Great characters with plenty of wit, fast cracking pace with lots of twists and turns. If you are are JP fan and felt that he might have been losing his momentum with the last Alex Croos novel, you will be pleased to know he is back to his riveting best with 2nd Chance.
Rating: Summary: Brilliant Review: This is a beautiful work of art filled with shart witty prose and intriguing ideas. I recommend it fully to anyone with a heightened sensibility for the injustices of this world and the subtle nuances of existence.
Rating: Summary: Quick but unexceptional read! Review: Patterson is back with the 2nd book in his 'other' series - the four-woman murder club in San Francisco and this time the women are after a killer who seems to be committing hate crimes. Though the book is nowhere close to being as absorbing as his other masterpieces, Patterson manages to write another quick read. There are some nice twists and lots of hooks to keep u moving through the short chapters, but the revelation of the killer does not pack as much of a punch as his other books. And though a couple of the women have some amazing intuitions at key points to move the story forward, there aren't as many loose ends as in a couple of Patterson's recent books. As in the earlier '1st to Die', one of the women goes through a crisis here too but it occupies a lot less pages.
Rating: Summary: One of his best! Review: I really enjoyed this one by him. It was quite different from some of his others with the main characters being all females! I recomend it to everyone who's a James Patterson fan!
Rating: Summary: It's Good to See the Women's Murder Club Back in Action Review: The Women's Murder Club is back! Lindsay Boxer's been promoted to Lieutenant of the San Francisco Police Department. Cindy Thomas is the lead crime reporter at the Chronicle. Jill Bernhardt's the assistant District Attorney. Claire Washburn's the chief medical examiner. But this is no happy reunion. The action begins on page one. Reverend Aaron Winslow and 48 children are standing outside the La Salle Heights Church when gunfire erupts. At the end of the assault, a little African-American girl lays in a pool of her own blood. Clues reveal this was no random act of violence, though. Eleven-year-old Tasha Catchings was a target. More victims die at the hands of this madman. And Lindsay begins to suspect the worst: the killer's an ex-cop who seems to have a racial motive. She relies on Cindy, Jill and Claire both emotionally and to help her figure out just who she's looking for. And that's when those closest to Lindsay become targets, even victims, themselves. An extensive manhunt and a trail of dead bodies leads Lindsay to one final moment. Face to face with a killer and no way out. Don't keep us in suspense, Patterson. Make the 3rd time a charm and keep this series going!
Rating: Summary: Great book! Review: This was a great 2nd book, better than the first in the series. The characters were developed further, and so were their relationships to each other. And, all that was in the background of a fantastic mystery with tons of twists and turns. Patterson really leads the readers (and the characters) through mazes that seem to never end. And, when you finally do get to the end, you are led through one final twist that is sure to delight the reader. Great effort! I read the book in one sitting, not able to put it down. Read it - even if you missed the first in the series - it doesn't disappoint.
