Rating: Summary: Christianity does have a leg to stand on! Review: First of all, this book is not for the average person. A devout Christian has no use for the book because they are already Christians. A devout atheist will not be converted by this book. So who is this book for? This book is for anyone who in their heart wants to be a Christian but is held back by intellectual thoughts and hurdles of reason. A lot of people reach out to religion, but withdraw when they start putting it (religion) under a microscope. We are taught that religion does not hold up to skepticism and that we must accept it puely as a matter of faith. We are taught that science has all the answers and that religion just has faith. This book shows that religion does have a leg to stand on. Normally, books that defend Christianity or religion in general, do it in very bad ways. Such as, "you must believe-or you will go to Hell", or they try to prove Scripture by qouting other scriptures. These methods will convince no one, but the most simple minded of people. Efforts like the aforementioned two, which sadly abound, are the main reasons that "thinking" people do not take religion seriously and scoff at apologetics. This book gives solid, credible rebuttals to some of the most "damaging" assaults atheists and humanists have ever directed to Christianity. Prior to reading the book, I expected the book to be another preachy "You Must Believe" book, or a book that tried rebutting some of the more weaker arguments against Christianity. I was very shocked and surprised to see that the book dealt with most of the "big guns" that others use against Christianity. A big plus is that the book is so easy to read. Sure, there are far better, more scholarly Christian apologetics books available. But none, pack so much "to the point" information, in so little pages, in such a way as to captivate the reader, and draw them in as this book does! This book has more "value" page for page than any other apologetics book currently in print. Two side notes: Number one, anyone who reads this book will appreciate it more, if they first read a book that tries to debunk Christianity. Isaac Assimov has written a few books that attack Christianity. By reading one of his books, you will appreciate this book more. Most Christians, I am sure are not even familiar with a lot of the arguments Lee Strobels counters. By reading one of the books that makes such arguments, one will appreciate better the way and ease in which they are dispelled. People like Isaac Assimov make convincing arguments when they are able to express their views unchalleged. This book shows that there is another side to the argument. Christians need no longer rely solely on scripture to "prove" scripture if they decide to engage in a debate with a heckler. Number two, on a personal note, I have for the last twenty years wavered between being a humanist, Christian and outright atheist. This book has done more to make me feel "comfortable' at being a Christian than anything else. It has erased a good 90% of every intellectual hang up and 'reason not believe" that I had. Read this book and ignore the bad reviews. The people who do not like it, probably do not even understand what they are reading anyway, or at the very least had their minds made up that they wouldn't like it-before they even read it!
Rating: Summary: Excellent Testimonial of Jesus Christ Review: I am a Christian (at least for the past 9 years). I am also one that doesn't just take peoples "opinions" at face-value. I need evidence. And this Book by Lee Strobel DEFINATELY gives plenty of evidence for the claims of Chrisianity. I know that Skeptics will read my review and "feel sorry for me", but I DO believe that there is enough hard-core evidence for Christianity that it should be at least given the benifit of the doubt. I thank God for Mr. Strobel's journalism because it gave me something to stand on. I believe this Book is for EVERYONE; the Hard-core Skeptic, the New Believer to Christianity, AND the Seasoned-Saints. You may not agree with everything that Mr. Strobel and his interviewees say, but at least give them a chance to speak to you from their hearts. I have read and heard MANY debates between Christians and Non-Christians (expecially Atheists), and I respect those who DON'T believe in God (or Jesus as God), but I don't think many of them give serious consideration to the evidence for Christianity. Because you have to admit that many of the Apologists arguments have stood the test of time and HAVEN'T been "totally" refutted in almost 2,000 years. So those of you who are seeking for "TRUTH", I think that Lee Strobels book, "The Case For Christ" is a great starting point and is a valid argument for the claims of christianity...

Rating: Summary: Easy read and excellent resource Review: Lee Strobel has encompassed a lot of great research and fact into this book. A must read for non-believers as well as those Christians that doubt historical accuracies of the New Testament. The questions Lee addresses throughout this book are hard and to the point; he pulls no punches at trying to disprove the existence and relevancy of Christ and the scriptures. Excellent work, with fact to back up his findings.
Rating: Summary: Reads like a great Novel. Engaging anf Powerful! Review: Lee Strobel has given the Christian community a wonderful apologetic work that reads like a great novel. Strobel is a journalist and has a knack for writing detail that many other authors might miss. "The Case for Christ" is a project that has Strobel traveling the globe to interview some of the more well known Christain philosophers and apologists. Strobel has organized the book into three main parts, each dealing with a crucial issue in the Christian Faith. For example, part one covers the evidence for the Christian faith. What evidence is there? How can the evidence be tested? What is the scientific evidence? All these questions and many more are covered in the first part. Moreover, Strobel seeks answers from top people in many areas of study. Strobel interviews and questions Dr. Craig Blomberg (Denver Seminary), Dr. Bruce Metzger (Princeton University), Dr. Edwin Yamauchi, Dr, Gregory Boyd, Dr. Ben Witherington III (Asbury Seminary), Dr. D.A. Carson (Trinity), Dr. J.P. Moreland (Biola University), Dr. Gary Habermas (Liberty University), Dr. William Lane Craig, etc. Each scholar contributes to the content of the book via Strobel's probing and asking difficult questions. Topics covered are the resurrection, the historicity of Jesus, the person Jesus (i.e. who He was and what He claimed) and the historical evidence for the Christian faith. This book is extremely well written and packed full of wonderful facts. I highly recommend it for the serious reader and the not so serious reader as well.
Rating: Summary: Fair and Balanced..... Not Review: Lee Strobel's book, The Case for Christ, is proclaimed as a journalistic investigation into the truth about Christ. While Mr. Stobel does attempt to follow journalistic practice, it's in the vein of hard-hitting journalist like Barbara Walters. When he feels an expert hasn't fully answered a question he leaves off saying he didn't want to play "stump the scholar." While he often alludes to works by skeptics, he never interviewed any in his book. All the experts he interviewed have degrees in divinity or are professed evangelical Christians. In addition, while he mentions areas in Jewish or Islamic doctrine that refute the Christ claim, no experts from theses faiths are asked why their faith traditions refute the Christian claim.Over all The Case for Christ provides some interesting insights, but the book is definitely written by a devote believer that set out to prove his beliefs. It is very much like a panel of beef ranchers explaining that there is no harm eating beef with every meal. If you are looking for a novel that bolsters the Christ claim look no further. On the other hand if you are looking for a balanced examination you need to look elsewhere.
Rating: Summary: Get a different reader next time, please! Review: Note: I gave "The Case for Christ" 5 stars. However, please note that those stars go to the book itself, not this book on CD. The Case for Christ is one of the best books I have ever read, and it is easily the most accessible defense of Christ's divinity and of the resurrection ever published. Therefore, I was excited to find that it was being published as a "book on CD." Dick Fredricks, however, kills that enthusiasm! Mr. Fredricks reads the text of Strobel's book in an annoyingly dramatic and affected manner. I much preferred the book on cassette, which Strobel himself read.
Rating: Summary: A Convincing Quest Review: THE CASE FOR CHRIST is an interesting book--not just because it is Lee Strobel's own quest but because it could be *anyone's* quest. A lot of the questions that have been raised about the miracle of Christ over the years are acknowledged and answered. The acknowledgment presents a far more convincing case than dancing around the issues at hand. Strobel has to be given a great deal of credit for taking on such a controversial issue. As a reporter and investigator, he is exceptional. The book not only explores the basis of Christianity; it manages to provide a history and personal profile of Jesus Christ. Strobel made this latest book one well worth the read.
Rating: Summary: How do you know it is true? Review: This book could easily be entitled, "What You've Always Wanted to Know about Christianity, but Didn't know Whom to Ask." In it, the author educates us on the major historical and archaeological information in support of the Bible, particularly emphasizing how former opinions in disagreement with the Bible have been changed as a result of recent discoveries. The author's writing style is clear, concise and so easy to read that the pages just fly by. The reader should be aware, however, that this is not a book about the author's conversion from atheism to Christianity. If the reader is interested in the author's conversion, he covers it in another book entitled, "Inside the Mind of Unchurched Harry and Mary".
