Rating: Summary: Execellent and useful concepts Review: The authors laid out some very good stpe-by-stpe approaches to deal with unexpected conversations that involve significant consequences and strong emotion. The few reminders, such as Make-It-Safe, are very useful tools when thorwn into a surprised "crucial conversation."However, the concepts are orgaized into a not-so-useful diagram. I assume the separate cue cards from the authors would be more useful, but I did not purchase them. A reader should summarize the ideas in the book into a more useful reminders.
Rating: Summary: Customer Service Review: I think this books is a very goog book, however, I suggest you not to buy anything directly from their web site. It seems they are starting to sell through the web, and do not have a good service, logistics and policies in case of troubles
Rating: Summary: Start now and change your life! Review: Too many of us never say what is really on our mind, that is until we let the pressure build and it escapes in a way we regret. This book will change your life. It provides the tools you need to commit to meaningful dialogue with those who matter most: family, co-workers and friends. You can have candor and respect at the same time. The book is a delightful read, adding humor along the way. It is powerful in the examples taken from real life. It is meant to be read time and again. You will want to practice and perfect these skills, using the time-tested principles until they become a part of you.
Rating: Summary: Great Resources for the Office... Review: I manage a team of customer service representatives who supports all aspects of the business. When a new team was formed due to sudden high turnover, we ran into communication issues. This book helped us overcome them, and provided a format to allow for safer communications with all of our internal customers as well. It's funny, a fast read, applicable today, and relevant in all aspects of life. As a manager, I refer to it often, and I keep it on my desk for anyone to pick up! I recommend it as a staple in any office setting.
Rating: Summary: Crucial Conversations Review: Few writings so quickly dispense with useless theory. The content of this book has amazing "real life" application which we found could get imediate results in our organization. We took the trouble to verify the validity of the research and found it to be academically sound as well. This book puts "legs" on the 7 Habits! Not just idea De Jour! BRAVO...
Rating: Summary: Shall Be Useful For Average Conversationalists Review: The book contains some commonly known ideas. The authors conceptualized them and organized them systematically. It may be too "easy" for skilled and mature conversationalists. A strength: it was more than outward skills to "manipulate" other people. It encouraged people to develop genuine relationship, e.g. self reflection, empathy, win-win achievement. Other strengths of the book: · The whole chained process: get ready to dialogue Þ dialogue Þ decision making Þ assignments. · Not only about handling yourself, but also our counterpart in a conversation. · There were advices on specific circumstances. · Simple language, useful examples. Easy to understand and not boring to read. Readers usually doubt how much of the skills can they really pick up. This is always a concern to me, but I think at least weakness/problem awareness can help. The last chapter actually talked about how to absorb and to use the skills learnt.

Rating: Summary: You may be better without this... Review: Self help drivel! Some of the stuff in the book is common sense. However, other parts and proposals in this book, used incorrectly are quite the opposite of common sense, and would have to be used so carefully, it may not be feasible to use them in the REAL world. They can be down right dangerous. Unless you are independently wealthy and can afford to lose a job or two, friends, and maybe even a significant other read this book. Others who have any sense of self really don't need this book at all.
Rating: Summary: This book is helping me to change my life. Review: A couple months ago I purchased Crucial Conversations for all my employees. Every two weeks we sit down and review what we've learned and what we need to do next. We are still learning, but we all have seen improvements in our ability to get things done. Additionally, the final results are improving. I've used these tools in difficult conversations with investors and others and have found that I'm more disciplined in my approach to dialogue and persistent in getting it. I even use it with my family and together we are learning some of the key principles in the book. Not every argument goes away, but we at least love and respect each other at the end of the discussion. The principles and tools taught in this book are helping me to change me. I recommend this book to anyone and everyone and I promise you'll see long lasting, positive results!
