Summary: Another decent thriller by Dan Brown
Review: If you are familiar with Dan Brown's other works and enjoy them, you will thoroughly enjoy this one too...

Deception Point is a good book, but it falls short in the very same place that Brown's other books do--his plotlines just aren't very imaginative or believable. I understand that good fiction doesn't have to be believable to be good (as Brown's books are a perfect example of) but they should at least try not to make the reader laugh outloud at the absurdity that occasionally popped up in Deception Point.

As with his other books (which I own all and keep with the rest of the books that I enjoyed reading) it contains solid and consistent writing and great choice of theological viewpoints to encourage the reader to use the heads, but the characters are weak, the plot is filled with massive holes, and once you get past the initial taste he gives you--you find it hard to swallow the whole thing.

Summary: Great story, same plot format
Review: I loved the story, but after reading The Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons, I pretty much knew who the bad guy was going to be and how it ended.

Summary: A Good One!
Review: After reading the DaVinci Code and Angels and Demons, which I found very good, I had to read Dan Brown's two other offerings. Deception Point was well written with a great deal of action and suspense. I am still wondering, though, how Dan was going to land the plane at Bolling Air Force Base. Bolling has no runway. A minor error in what was a fun book to read.

Summary: Not as good as the hype....
Review: somewhat predictable, but fast moving and enjoyable....I liked the book, but not as good as A&D....

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: 4 relative to brown's other novels: 5 on the whole
Review: Not as good as Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demon's. Better that Digital Fortress. Nonetheless this is a wonderfully enjoyable and unpredictable book. My only regret is that I have to wait for Brown to write another book. This guy can flat out write. Forgetaboutit.

Summary: My favorite so far
Review: By far, DECEPTION POINT is the best thing Dan Brown has done. With excellent writing reminiscent of Jackson McCrae's BARK OF THE DOGWOOD and a plot that holds up against DA VINCI CODE and ANGELS & DEMONS, this well-written, well thought-out thriller deserves its place on the bestseller list. While "Code" and "Angels" were page turners in their own right, "Point" surpasses even those. Great, great writing and a plot surrounded by interesting scientific facts make this the best read out there today. And it's always nice to actually learn something in the process!

Summary: Disapointing
Review: This book was a big disapointment after having read Angels & Demons. I never cared about any of the characters, never bought the "blossoming" romance between Rachel and Tolland and Senator Sexton is one of the worst caricatures of the devious Washington politician. I'm as cynical as the next guy, but, Sexton's actions towards the end of the novel regarding his daughter are just too hard to believe.

I will say that there are some real genuine surprises in the book and despite my complaints it did keep me turing the pages. 3 stars ain't all bad.

If you are new to Dan Brown I'd read Angels & Demons first. For my part, I will have to consider whether or not I want to take a chance on Brown's other novels.

Summary: Good thrilling read
Review: This book is really a good read. It is a little slow at the start; but once it gets going, it really gets going. It has enough cliffhanging chapters to keep you from wanting to put the book down. You learn early on that the groundbreaking discovery of a meteorite with the fossils of an alien lifeform is nothing but a huge deception. But the book keeps you guessing about who is behind that deception and willing to kill to keep the secret a secret. Is it the President? The head of NASA? The President's Chief of Staff? Or someone else entirely?

Although the book may stretch the bounds of believability at times, Brown infuses enough sceintific realism that it still works. Brown has created characters that seem real and that make the reader care about what happens to them. Good guys you want to cheer for and bad guys that you boo and hiss at.

I am surprized that this book has not been made into a movie yet. In many ways (like Micheal Crighton books) it reads almost like a screen play. With the huge success of The DaVinci Code, and a likely movie to follow of that book, do not be surprized if a movie will also be made of this exciting work by Dan Brown.

Summary: This Book Was a Page Turner
Review: This book does a good job of using real scientific data to create a believable, yet fictional novel. Dan Brown also uses his talented writing ability to keep the pace of the story moving rapidly. Politics, science, suspense, action, and even a touch of love are crammed into this book. Consequently, I couldn't put this book down. The short chapters combined with the interesting story and realistic characters make this book a great short read for anyone. And the most fascinating part of this book is that it is not inconceivable that the events Brown created could happen. Regardless of your interests and expertise, there is something in this book for you, especially if you like fiction.

Summary: I only wish it had been true . . .
Review: Now, I do not usually read thrillers, but after all the hype about the DaVinci Code, I had to read it. Once I read that, I HAD to read all Dan Brown's other works. This was the third I devoured, and I loved it as well, not quite so much as Angels & Demons and DaVinci Code, but very well indeed.

I have a great interest in the space program, and while reading this, I kept thinking, "Wouldn't it be awesome if this really happened?" Then as the book took a typical Dan Brown turn, I reversed that thought to, "Thank God this didn't happen!"

The heroine is just the fiesty sort I love to read about, and the plot will, of course, keep you on the edge of your seat. Interesting concept for a book, with unusual locales, I recommend this to anyone who wants to be absorbed in a book cover to cover. If you have a busy week planned, put it aside!! You won't put it down once you start!
