Rating: Summary: Good Dan Brown Novel - but not the best! Review: I just finished this book and it was a pretty good read. I didn't like it as much as Angels and Demons, but better then his first novel. If you want to read a really good, fast paced novel, pick up Matthew Reily's Area 7 book.Laterz - Matt
Rating: Summary: Competent Review: A bit surprised by the other reviews here, this is by no means bad but it is not brilliant either. It is an odd mix of political intrigue, conspiracy theory and a chase story. At times it reminded me of the better Ice Station by Matt Reilly. It is a reasonable read, but not up in the league of Ludlum or Clancey.
Rating: Summary: An Excellent (And Different!!) Thriller Novel Review: I must get Dan Brown's other two books because this one had great characters, an unusual plot, enough death-defying twists and turns to satisfy the most avid adventure reader, AND an ending that completely fooled me. The "science" in this book was especially fascinating. This book would make a great movie. It'll keep you turning pages. I read it in one sitting.
Rating: Summary: Earth-Shattering Review: The book begins in Washington DC with an acrimonious meeting between presidential candidate Senator Sedgewick Sexton and his daughter, Rachel. This meeting establishes for us the dislike for one another these two have. From the moment this meeting finishes, the action begins and doesn't let up. We follow Rachel, who works for the NRO a government agency responsible for handling sensitive information. After a rushed meeting with none other than the President, she finds herself winging her way north to Milne Island inside the Arctic Circle. She is then faced with what could best be described as the greatest discovery in earth's history. Just as the reader is getting over this whirlwind opening, the tone takes a sinister turn and Rachel, along with a couple of scientists find themselves fighting for their lives. Meanwhile, tensions are no less charged back in Washington with political powerbrokers hard at work trying to control the media while keeping one eye on the events far to their north. One small annoying aspect of the book was Dan Brown's insistence on endlessly drawing out the big earth-shattering revelations. Rather than come straight out and tell us what all the fuss is about, he put us through a big song and dance routine time and again until I felt like putting my hands into the pages of the book and throttling it out of the book. It became a tad frustrating after the fifth or sixth time it happened. It went something along the lines of, "So, why was I summoned here so urgently?" and the answer would invariably be "Perhaps I should show you, if you would just walk this way." I'd much prefer to be told and then walk that way. Apart from this minor gripe, I think this is a very entertaining thriller that makes good use of the latest stealth technology, presented in a believable and enjoyable story.
Rating: Summary: Another Great book by Brown Review: I picked up this book after finishing "Angels and Daemons" and was looking forward to another thriller that would keep me reading until the early hours of the morning. Well, that's what I got with "Deception Point"! When I first started reading this book, I was a bit afraid that the plot was just to out there for my liking, well by the middle of the book a 180-degree plot twist made me more interested in this fun book. This was an easy read that was a great book for those times where you do not want to have to think that much about the plot. I think that this book would make an excellent movie and that the characters were well developed and the plot was fascinating. All in all I would highly recommend this book!
Rating: Summary: A Fun-To-Read Escapist Thriller! Review: Dan Brown has done it again! Deception Point is the type of book his first two were- hard to put down! He grabs your attention right away and keeps you engrossed until the last page. My only complaint is that the covers on his books are too close together! Dan knows how to keep a reader enthralled- I don't find many authors who have that talent, so I'm delighted when he comes out with a new book. I've really enjoyed reading his well-researched novels and look forward to many, many more. Thanks, Dan!
Rating: Summary: YEAH RIGHT! Give me a break Review: Too many bodies to begin with. They drop like flys in this book! Implausible plot. This was my first/last Dan Brown book May I recommend "The Price of Honor" by David H. Hackworth.
Rating: Summary: Good work out Review: For those who like to figure out who done it before the book reveals it, this one will give you a good work out. The plot got a little too complex with sublots that were more distracting than enhancing but it all comes together in the end.
Rating: Summary: Just Kidding Right? Review: What nonsense! Could not possibly be more far fetched. This book had a great premise and is very easy to read but falls apart very quickly. Under water volcanos? They exist I guess, but come on with this ending! There is also a large mistake at the end that is rather easy to pick up on. I will not give the ending away (which, unfortunatly, seems to be a growing trend in these reviews) but some of you will figure it out. Move on to more worthy books.
Rating: Summary: Weakest of the Trio... Review: I have read all three of Brown's novels and was disappointed with Deception Point. The plot was engaging at times, and the scientific premise is interesting. Overall, however, the book was harmed by some rather silly encounters between the "good-guys" and the "bad-guys". The ending wraps-up much like a Scooby-Doo cartoon. Most disappointing, however, is the "plug-and-play" nature of this work, which unfortunately has the same feel as his earlier books. I would rate this book as an excellent work for a young reader. An adult may find it overly simplistic and silly at times.
