Summary: Pretty Good...although...
Review: ...Delta Force (who plays a big role in the book) was not really used in an accurate way. For one thing they would not keep messing up their missions like they did in the book. I read a book by Eric Haney (that is very good) called Inside Delta Force. Eric Haney is a founding member of Delta Force, and after reading Haney's book I found it very hard to believe that Delta Force would behave the way they did out on the ice flow or when they targeted the ship (later on in the book). Dan Brown kind of makes them look a little stupid leaving his main characters a chance to escape in a James Bond type of way. I would also find it hard to believe that Delta Force would be used to target innocent people (I guess that could be another debate). I think that the book could have come off better if the bad guys were someone else other than Delta Force (maybe like some I.R.S. agents... just kidding)... Other times the characters would really be in trouble, and of course something really convenient would happen to give them a chance to escape, or they just acted in the nick of time.... In any event, the book does move fast, and it has some really interesting parts. I have read the Da Vinci Code which was just ok (some of the factual information in that book was really stretched, and in some cases not true at all), but I still plan to read all of his books. Even though I might have problems with his books here and there they seem to move fast and are good at holding the reader's attention.

Summary: Great book
Review: This is a fast paced unpredictable great book. I never expected what would happen next and it took me no time to read this book since you can't put it down. I would reccommend this to anyone. And don't listen to the person who gave it 1 star. He said he only read the first 5 pages. How can you rate a 500 page book by the first 5 pages? And the book isn't even that politacal. It is very action adventure which that person would have seen had they read the book before writing a review.

Summary: A Good Read, But somewhat Disappointed by Ending
Review: Thought it well written, well plotted, even probable based on my own knowledge of the mysterious workings of Federal agencies.But the denouement was quirky. The "Controllers" ultimate identity made no sense to me and was a total non-sequiteur to "Controller" characterization by author and his motivation was murkey as the Trench. I do recommend the book. However, it is not the page turner, can't put it down that the Demons & Angels book was. Perhaps a small bone to pick is the Author's very stilted and unauthentic dialogue between his male and female leads in the "personal attraction/interaction" arena. It is a jarring note in the otherwise good writing. Totally unbelievable to me and very "junior high-school" kinda stuff. This was true in the 2 books so far I've read. In my opinion the male/female chemistry thing could be left out without damaging the story line at all. It seems very forced and contrived the way it is offerred in the storyline. Also am going to read the DaVinci Code with hope in my heart as I think Mr. Brown is a good writer in most all ways that I judge that to be so.

Summary: This is one of the best books I've read
Review: It's been quite some time since I've read a book as tight, exciting, and twisty as Deception Point. I think the last author to bowl me over so quickly was Dean Koontz (his early years, not now). This novel has just about everything you need for a stay-up-all-night read and absolutely nothing you don't need. It's very well-paced, and I swear this is one of the hardest books to put down. Until I read his debut novel, Digital Fortress, and was bowled over again by this new author. He just has a knack for getting you hooked right from the start and not weighing you down with a lot of character development until you're ready. And by this I mean he doesn't spend the first 50-100 pages introducing the main players and boring the socks off of you like a lot of authors do now. He gradually unveils each character over the course of the novel, so like in real life, you get to know them over a period of time. Dan Brown reminds me so much of when Koontz used to write like this, but now all his books are all about the character, and the action, plot, and narrative are secondary. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for character development, but I simply can't remember all there is to know about a person when 50 pages are devoted to them back to back. Just doesn't work, at least for me. So, read the plot outline above, and if sounds like a genre that will appeal to you, give it a go. I will say that Dan Brown can take the most complicated subject matter and boil it down into something completely understandable. And when I look up some of the things he writes about, I find that all his plot devices are based in fact. How refreshing! So when his prologue or author's note says such-and-such are real places and/or devices, believe him. This is one author who does his homework, and the reader is the beneficiary of all this knowledge. You will walk away from his books feeling completely refreshed, not ripped off, and ready to find his next little gem tucked away somewhere on Amazon!

Summary: Already predictable...
Review: I try to avoid reading novels that are even remotely political. Why? Becuase almost to the person, an author will describe a Republican as either a dumb huckster, or a malicious, conniving, sneaky, self serving jerk. I decided to try an author, new to me, whose reviews are good. I encounter this stereotype within the first five pages. Ahh, all is fiction. The mindset is immediately predictable. I will try to read this book already knowing the evil that lurks behind the character of Sinister Senator Sedgewick Sexton. He's the REPUBLICAN primary winner. And his political persuasion just had to be pointed out.

Summary: too implausible
Review: I read this book because 'The Da Vinci Code' wasn't available at my library and I wanted to read something by this author. The book was okay...but not great. The plot moved along almost too quickly, with everything happening just in the nick of time. I didn't like the numerous short chapters, and there was too much foreshadowing for my liking. The plot was too far-fetched and I was actually happy to finish the book!

Review: Deception Point is fast-paced, and hard to put down. Plot twists are surprising. Characters are well defined, as far as they go. This story would have gotten a five star rating but for its contradiciton of keeping NASA under government control. 'Government science' is a contradiction in terms. Force and Mind are opposites. Still, this was a great read. Worth your time.

Summary: Thriller in the frozen tundra.
Review: Dan Brown has written another fast-paced, intellectual thriller, one in which deception, politics, and secrecy all combine to sweep the reader along. It retains the suspense of Robert Ludlum "The Paris Option" with the build up found in Britt Gillette's "Conquest of Paradise". From the Arctic ice shelf to the political rat race of Washington, DC, the plot twists and turns as the protagonists (and the reader) learn more and more about a plot that becomes more and more believable. This is not a traditional formulaic thriller. Brown's book is hard to put down, as the reader becomes more and more involved in the action. A definite must read.

For me, the mark of a "great" writer is a great story, interesting information, a "you can't put down the
book until the end," and he also makes me "want" to learn more on my own about the subject matter.
Dan Brown has done it again. First it was "Digital Fortress," and then it was "Angels & Demons," and now it is "Deception Point." What a "great" teacher and writer. I have learned so much from every one of his great pieces of writing. I have spent many hours looking up every bit of information on the Internet. Every bit of informationin "Deception Point" I have actually found on the Internet. What an education!!!!

Being a PADI Divemaster and PADI Masterdiver, the oceans and lakes have always been very interesting to me, since I have actually been diving under the ice, at night, in wrecks and in caves. I love to go out to the shooting range and shoot trap and skeet, so all the high tech stuff is also of interest for me. I love tennis (I am a former ATP touring tennis professional), skiing , flying fast, great books, I do the crossword every day, and I especially like trying to figure out Dan Browns codes. And if you haven't bought the hard bound copies with the jackets or solved all the codes, you really haven't gotten the whole story. The jackets on "Digital Fortress," and "Angels & Demons" both have part of the story somewhere on it. So, once again, Dan Brown has done it again for me.
