Rating: Summary: Good mystery-- badly contrived ending Review: And Then There Were None (also known as Ten Little Indians) is a good mystery, just like Agatha Christie's other works. It tells of the story of ten anonymous strangers who have been summoned to Indian Island, a remote island off the coast of Devon, England. As the weekend passes, one by one they are murdered and their attempts to get off the island come to nothing. I was kept on my toes as I kept trying to guess who was the culprit. Just like "Death Comes as the End," another one of Christie's mysteries that are well contrived in the beginning and middle but just make it through at the end, this mystery has a disappointing ending. In a short "Manuscript sent to Scotland Yard", the culprit is summarily identified. I like Christie's other mysteries in which the culprit is ingeniously and suddenly discovered; in this one, it takes several pages of reading the "manuscript" before one finds out the culprit, and second, there is a practically useless epilogue that the book does not need. However, excepting the ending, this a wonderful and enthralling mystery.
Rating: Summary: And Then There Were None-by Agatha Christie Review: And Then There Were None was one of my all-time favorite mysteries. Agatha Christie keeps you hooked!! It starts of a little slow in the beginning but as soon as they all arrive on the island and the mysterious record is played with every persons deepest-darkest secrets and the mystery starts to unfold. As soon as people started explaining the secrets that were told about them, they begin to mysteriously die. It all relates to a cruel rhyme about the 10 little indians. it catches your attention until the very last page. It also has a twist at the end. It is just an awesome book! If you like mysteries and twists you will love this book. i couldn't put it down! way to go agatha christie!
Rating: Summary: A MUST READ FOR MYSTERY FANS Review: This was the first mystery that I read by Agatha Christie, and I am pleased to announce that I was not disappointed. Ten unsuspecting characters receive invitations to go to a mysterious island, only to discover that someone among them is a killer. The million dollar question is: "Who is the murderer?" I didn't figure this out until I completed the novel. Christie definitely has a great talent for writing mysteries that have kept readers' interested for many years. Test out your detective skills as you attempt to solve the mystery, which is a difficult task. All of the characters are unique in their own way, and they try to maintain their sanity even though they are fully aware that a killer is on the loose, and there is no escape route off the island.
Rating: Summary: Definitely should be on one's reading list! Review: As an avid peruser of most Agatha Christie novels, I must state that this is one of the Queen of Crime's superb mysteries. Set on the mystical, deserted Indian Island, eight people are invited by an unknown host to stay at a house complete with a butler and and cook, Mr. and Mrs. Rogers, who are completely clueless of the identity of their employer. In each of the guests' bedrooms, there is a poem pinned up to the wall: and old nursery rhyme featuring ten little Indian boys. It is then that the murders begin, revealing that each guest (including Mr. and Mrs. Rogers) is concealing deep, deadly secrets connected to murder in their past (accidental or on purpose). Who the culprit is is the case which causes commotion and suspicision among the house's occupants and fright. But all is not lost since a pattern develops following the content of the poem. Soon only two people remain alive on the island, Philip Lombard and Vera Claythorne. Which one is the killer? The solution is quite a twist since both die anyway as predicted: "Two little Indian boys sitting in the sun; One got frizzled up and then there was one. One little Indian boy left all alone; He went and hanged himself and then there were none." So get your hands on 'And Then There Were None'; it's grand fun and suspense and if you are that a great of a sleuth like Hercule Poirot, the solution is quite a clinch and erratic, yet highly expected of Agatha Christie.
Rating: Summary: Twists and turns...as good as it gets! Review: If you have never read any Agatha Christie or if you have not really ever been interested in mysteries, this book is a must. It will really get you interested in an entirely new genre of literature that you didn't think would spark your interest. I first read this book in 8th grade reading class (so that should tell you that it's not overly difficult to follow or comprehend), and I was hooked. The plot revolves around a group of people who go on an island vacation together...but if I told you anymore, I might have to kill you (joking of course, but it would happen in this book!). This story is extremely captivating. You'll never guess what's going to happen next, and that's one of the best aspects of the book. The title of the book suggests what's to come, but the plot of the novel is cleverly entertwined with an old Indian rhyme...you have got to read this book. You won't be able to put it down, even when your 8th grade reading teacher threatens you NOT to read ahead! Great summer reading, a way to kick yourself in the butt and do the reading you promised yourself you'd do.
Rating: Summary: Suspense and Interest Review: I'm a big Agatha Cristie fan and this is one of her better ones. Not only does it include some wonderful suspense, but it has a stunning surprise ending as well.
Rating: Summary: The Best Of Agatha Christie! Review: This book kept me reading till the end, day and night. The suspence just dragged me in and left me thinking, wow I have no idea who is the murderer. I have read many books, but this has got to be the best. If you love Agatha Chirstie's books and havent read this on, you better brace youself. I just couldnt believe the ending, no, i wont say anything here except read this book!
Rating: Summary: good but could be better Review: I really enjoy the tension and suspense the book creates especially in the last few chapters (from Ch 13 onward when the few people left were so frightened and alert). That I think is the strongest point of the book. The confession of the murderer(s) in the epilogue is ok, though I did expect something more surprising and ... convincing. There are a few points in the murderer(s)'s plan and in the story development itself that are not very believable. [The butler still prepared breakfast after the second murder, as if there's nothing particularly unusual happen???] That is, the book is a bit too contrived. But over all, if you have 5, 6 hours to spare and like detective stories, why not?
Rating: Summary: Excellent ... highly recommended for mystery fans Review: If you like mystery books this will be right up your alley. If you're a big Agatha Christie fan you should stop reading these reviews and just buy it. AND THEN THERE WERE NONE (also published as TEN LITTLE INDIANS) is a fantastic mystery story that reads faster than a speeding Corvette. I don't think I've found a book that reads quite this quickly, and I've read my fair share of novels. It's hard to find fault with Christie's excellent plot and situations which she creates. This is, I believe, one of the few novels Christie has written without one of her detectives (Poirot, Miss Marple, et al.). It's a unique book and there are at least a couple movie versions of it. Do yourself a favor and read this. You could do a lot worse.
Rating: Summary: I skipped Review: Did you know that the play had a different ending? A classic mystery. It was a bit too long to wait for all ten people to get killed before finding out who is the read murderer, so I skipped to the ending. Agatha's dream come true. A perfect murder case.
