Summary: One of the most important books I've ever read
Review: I purchased this book at a time in my life when I was seriously questioning God, my relationship with my father, and my role as a man. I read it all the way through in about a day; I find myself, three weeks later, referring to it on a daily basis. I appreciate Eldredge's candidness and boldness in writing this book. It has opened my heart to God the Father and has helped bring me to a point where I am content being a child of God. If you are in a position where you are questioning what it REALLY means to be a godly man, I encourage you to check this book out. Don't write it off as being "just another Christian man's book." It's so much more than that!

Summary: You will find your heart and purpose
Review: Some may think that the author promotes abandoning wisdom for foolishness. Not so. If you do, you have missed the point of the book and you are probably a woman. Men have been suppressed from being men for decades now and our society is suffering from the impact. Mr. Eldredge hit the nail squarely on the head with this book and goes right to the heart of the matter. This book has enlightened me not just in understanding myself, but also, my sons and my wife. It has helped me to be a better husband and father, while freeing up my masculinity, unashamedly. There's a deep frustration that many men feel about their role in their family, job and society. This book will give you the understanding you need to know and will free you to be the man you are hard-wired to be. If you are married, get your wife to read it too. This book will change both of your perspectives about a man and a woman's design and purpose.

Summary: A Must Read
Review: Even reading from a woman's perspective, I can say that this book completely changed my understanding of men and relationships. It even helped me understand my own femininity better. I highly recommend it to anyone searching for answers about their relationships. I really enjoyed reading The Journey of Desire, but this book floored me. By the grace of God, Eldredge truly outdid himself!

Summary: Great Understanding of what a real man is
Review: John has untapped the secrets of a man's soul and leads you to expereince the truth of what it means to be a man and a woman. He is a gifted writer that helps understand why boys are boys and girls are girls without authenitcating the abuse that both have suffered from men that were not truly men. In my own journey to understand what a man is and how to raise my sons to be men I have not found a more helpful or insightful book.

Summary: Wild at Heart
Review: If you are a 'free spirit' type of person you MUST READ this book!! You will see the 'free spirit' of God that the church has mistakenly tried to hide and quiet and hush. If you are a church-goer you will be set free to see the "wild" side of God and understand that your own wild side is a good thing and God-given. If you HATE CHURCH because of its prudish portrayal of God, give it (or at least God)one more chance by reading this book. You won't be disappointed. This book was so great I read it twice in a 3 week period. I'll probably read it again in a few months or so and I must send a thank you note to the author for how he has revolutionized my life in countless ways through this book. p.s. it's not just for men!

Summary: An Accurate understanding of the real issues of men.
Review: As a mental health counselor I have often struggled to find materials which spoke clearly and directly to the fundemental issues my male clients struggle with. This book has been helpful in this regard for both my male and female clients. I consistantly find that my male and female clients state that Eldridge clearly states the basic needs of men and women. My female clients tell me that it helps them to understand there men. My male clients tell me that the book helps them understand the emptinees they have felt. We all agree that the book is not politically correct in that it challenges the feminist view of therapy that has dominated the field for the last thirty years.

Summary: Women will be blessed as well as men!
Review: Every man and woman should read this book! I purchased a copy for myself and a male friend and it has been a meaningful experience. One of the main aspects that I liked about the book is that while it discusses the importance of the father in bestowing masculinity and femininity on his children, it does not stay there if you never experienced this. He reminds us that our relationship with God is critical as He is the only one who can truly make you whole.

Summary: Mostly wonderful moments...
Review: After reading Anita Diamant's The Red Tent, my friends thought I needed to read a "man book," so I was pointed in the direction of Eldredge's Wild At Heart. Fully expecting to be insulted by his macho-tough-guy style, I was glad to find that, for the most part, I agreed with what he had to say. My male friends seem to say that Eldredge is right on in what he says about the masculine heart, and I applaud his stand-up attitude in taking responsibility for the health of his marriage and his relationships with his children. But I do think that he tends to limit himself when he describes the longings of men and women. It's a little too rigid at times.

Aside from the chapters on gender, the sections that shone brightest for me were towards the end of the book, discussing vocation and calling. As I sift through my own confusion about what I should be doing with the rest of my life, Eldredge reminds me that my quest for fulfillment and success must first begin before the face of God, as I ask Him to reveal my true created nature. This book marks a major spiritual turning point for me as I recognize and accept some of the gifts I've been given and can now step forward in faith, unafraid of what others may think or say.

Eldredge's style is highly engaging and thoroughly enjoyable to read. He makes ideas applicable and accessible by using many examples from popular media - music, movies, literature, etc. This is a great book to read and discuss as a group.

Summary: Ye Shall Know the Truth...
Review: And the Truth Shall Set You Free.

This book is perhaps the most important book I have ever read and I have read about 1/2 of Shakespeares plays, the Illiad, the Odyssey, the Aeneid, a lot of Socrates, Dante, Descartes, and Lord knows what else with over 180 Undergraduate College Hours. This book very accurately represented events in my life around the time I came to Christ. This book is close to it if it is not in fact the Truth. It is amazing in its ability to enlighten and explain and I even followed it's advice to cure a friend of mine of depression and dizziness. It is worth reading whether you believe or want to believe or not. I dare anyone to read it. I encourage everyone to read it. If you have ever wondered "what, how, or why?" about Anything, this book may fill your needs.

Summary: CAUTION: THIS BOOK WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE....
Review: Eldredge redefines what it means to be a "Christian man" in today's world and, say what you will about this book, HE'S RIGHT! Think about the Bible for a sec, it's not full of "nice guys," is it? No, it is full of risk-takers, revolutionaries, and adventurers. Every major figure in the Bible entered into a battle and it's clear that the battle goes on today.

Today is D-Day and Eldredge calls us to battle against the Enemy, who exploits our wounds from the fall of Adam and Eve.

This book may be unsettling because it encourages us to GET OFF OUR BUTTS and enter the fray. So all I can say is to keep an open mind and be prepared to answer the call. Jesus was no wimp and neither are we.
