Summary: THIS IS AN INSPIRED BOOK!
Review: The other day I caught a commercial where a guy surfed the whole internet in just a few minutes because he bought some really fast service. I hope there are so many reviews on this book that he can never finish! This is simply a great book about the true "God given" desires of the passionate masculine heart, and it has some very penetrating insights about what it means to be a father and a husband as well. "Wild at Heart" was recommended to me by a friend who I admire deeply and after reading it, I bought copies for both of my sons. My wife is reading it, and a mens group has been formed, not to re-hash the book, but to rediscover ourselves in light of the excitement that has surfaced. This book is about turning males into men. If your life seems a little dry, "Wild at Heart" might just put some juice back into it!

Summary: What all Christian men should know~
Review: This book is like a must-see movie! So many times you'll find yourself saying "yeah" agreeing with the deep down emotions that men are built with and have a desire to outwardly express. It actually takes you back through your OWN life and highlights the times when you really felt like a man. I can easily say that you will have a different perspective of life after reading this book regardless of your age, size, race, status, or if your married or not.
Have fun with it.

Summary: Buy Multiple Copies and Give to Friends!
Review: Ok, I'm half joking and half-serious. This is a book that ALL men, Christian or non-Christian, should read.

Don't listen to the women who criticize this book!

Ironically, my mother gave me this book, so I thought it was going to be another self-help book and I shoved it aside. My brother used the book as his mousepad, so I eventually picked it up out of curiousity and just could NOT put it down.

WOW!! This guy cuts thru the thick of everything. When the author quoted mothers as often saying, "Don't grow up to be like your father," this guy knew exactly what he was talking about. From his experience as a counselor, he's obviously seen enough.

To be honest, not many books keep my attention long enough to read completely through, but this book is fun to read. His humorous stories will make you double-over with laughter, but sometimes will make your eyes teary. But, overall, it's is a must-read for every man out there.

You might think the guy is stereotyping. But, the fact is, many guys do face insecurities deep, deep down in their psyche. Maybe I wouldn't consider the author an expert on female psychology, but he certainly can talk straightforward man-to-man.

A friend of mine told me that churches spend a lot of money on women's ministries, but that the people they *really* need to be ministering to in these times are men! Many men stay away from churches because Christianity has been "softened" and they think that church is for women.
So I like how Eldredge casts characters of the Bible in the "warrior" light so that you can see how men can fit naturally into God's ultimate design.

EXCELLENT BOOK!!!!!

Summary: Mis-informative
Review: If you are a just-born Christian, or a husband, do not read this book, as it will give you misinformation that will confuse you and hurt your relationship with your wife.

Summary: Entirely Subjective
Review: I wrote a nice LONG review earlier, and it somehow didn't get online. I just want to get my rating on here, and say that the book is entirely subjective, and I am a Christian. I know many men and women who do not fit either of the stereotypes John puts them in throughout this book. Also, I know many 'nice' Christian men who are also very passionate about their faith and their journey to meeting their Lord. Also, women do not need to be 'rescued', nor do they need to be told they are 'beautiful' for them to be content in life and hold self-esteem. Society already is telling men they need to be 'macho' and 'strong' and 'courageous' to be "real men", we don't need "Christain" advocates like John Eldredge further emphasizing that point, and making men think they are back in the days of the Bible, when it WAS necessary for the men to fight for their country, family and welfare. Now, it is necessary for ALL PEOPLE to fight for the same things, but not always with the violence and barbaric examples John uses in his book.

Summary: ENLIGHTENING BOOK FOR BOTH MEN AND WOMEN
Review: As a counsellor, I am continually trying to go above and beyond past education and experience in a contunual quest to fully understand humanity. Learning is a never-ending process and we can never have enough information. I cannot comment on this book from a man's perspective, but from a woman's point of view it was refreshing, enlightening and provided a novel insight on what man needs to be versus what society expects him to be - there is a vast difference. That statement can also be applied to the woman among us; however, this book appears to be basically aimed at the masculine gender.

As the author points out, many men, as little boys, are filled with dreams and visions of one day conquering the world, becoming heroes, and living a life of adventure in unknown fields. Whatever happened to those dreams and aspirations for riskless adventure? Some men still pursue it but, with age and life's experiences, many outgrow the dreams of youth. I am sure many men will read the book, sit back and say, "Ahh, I can relate to what the Eldredge is saying, now I understand."

The book is also excellent reading material for women; it will help provide insight on what a man emotionally needs in his life to be the person he was truly meant to be. Another recommended book well worth reading is "Journey of Desire", also by Eldredge.

Summary: GreatestBlessingThisChristmasBesidesGod,Family,LovedOnes
Review: I got this book for Christmas a few days ago. I am almost finished. You need to understand that I rarely read books easily. I find that they don't hold my attention. This is one of very few books that I have not been able to put down. I am recommending it to anyone that I can. Actually I sometimes find that I value it so much that i don't want everyone else to have it. It has defined so many things I have thought, but didn't have a place for in my mind. It is an essential book, especially in todays society. This book has been one of the greatest blessings this Christmas.

Summary: Jesus was no wimp!
Review: This author helped me to see something I have always felt but never really thought about, that churchgoers are boring and passionless. Now I know why I don't go to church and do not enjoy the company of those who do. Thanks John! Now I don't have to feel guilty anymore! As for the rest of the book, I won't rehash the fine reviews already posted but will note that the author quotes heavily from Robert Bly's IRON JOHN, a book I recommend any man to read.In fact, the author quotes alot period, too much really. Another book worth reading because it details masculinity in its fulness is KING, WARRIOR, MAGICIAN, LOVER by Robert Moore. I can only give this book three stars for the content isn't any where near the level of the two other men's books I have mentioned, but the author deserves praise for saying what many Christian men need to hear: look at yourself you wimp! You are not doing any body any good, including yourself, by making Jesus into a meek and mild Mr.Rogers-type and following that projection. You ARE meant for something bigger than church suppers! Your youthful dreams can't be shoved aside in the name of God, duty and family for they will prevail if only to make you miserable because you didn't follow your heart.

Summary: WOW!!!
Review: I love to read but find I give myself little time to do so in my often hectic life.I am new found to Faith, though I have always believed in God and lived by the belief in savoring a moment and enjoying daily the little things that can make us happy if we open our eyes. The title caught my eye, but the cover and excerpts I read felt as though the book was me and my soul. As I write this I am still reading it and am out here buying it for several friends. The paraphrases from the Bible leave me longing to read it again ad refer back to each quote or paraphrase and read that completely too! This really is one I will re-read and refer to for the rest of my life!

Summary: Ever wonder why?
Review: I recommend all of John Eldredge's books, but this book takes the cake by far. Even though this book is for "discovering the secret of a man's soul," I think that both men and women can benefit from reading it. The quotes at the beginning of the chapters are great. My favorite page is 175.
